//🤩New Aged Care Facility Underway for Local Victorian Community

The Victorian Government is enhancing aged care services for residents in Cohuna, with construction commencing on a $41.1 million aged care facility to provide high-quality care closer to home. 👵👴

The facility will also feature a dementia-friendly environment to better support older Victorians with complex care needs, enabling them to ‘age in place.’ This aspect is particularly vital in regional communities like Cohuna, where maintaining close ties with family and support networks is essential. 🏡

The Cohuna aged care facility forms part of the government’s Regional and Rural PSRAC Revitalisation Strategy, which aims to modernise outdated facilities with purpose-built aged care services that align with contemporary care models and community expectations.🛏️

//🔥Foster + Partners Reveals Vision for Old Trafford Stadium District

Foster + Partners has been commissioned by Manchester United to develop a master plan for the Old Trafford Stadium District. At the heart of the plan is a new stadium, poised to become the largest football venue in the UK, accommodating 100,000 spectators. This week, the firm released conceptual images of the stadium design alongside public spaces, including parks, mixed-use developments, an open-air cinema, and a revamped train station. These visualisations serve as a foundation for further feasibility studies, consultations, and planning as the project progresses. 🏟️

The stadium design features an open structure with a striking, lightweight, and permeable roof. Designed to be a prominent landmark, the roof aims to shelter fans while enhancing the stadium atmosphere. Norman Foster describes the new Manchester United Stadium as "not a fortress surrounded by a sea of cars" but rather an open environment "contained by an umbrella that harvests solar energy and rainwater." This "umbrella" refers to the stadium's distinctive tent-like roof, supported by three masts, which also nod to the club’s trident emblem. The roof is acoustically engineered to amplify crowd noise beyond the venue.⚽

Norman Foster highlights a shift away from the conventional "fortress and parking" stadium model towards a more integrated, multifunctional urban approach. Similarly, RIOS and Field Operations recently proposed repurposing parking spaces at Chicago’s United Center, Gensler unveiled plans for Al-Ahly Football Club’s new stadium, and Populous announced the redevelopment of Italy’s Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. These projects share a common vision of transforming stadiums into year-round destinations that serve as cultural and community hubs beyond match days. 🤩

//🔥Queenstown Could See Innovative Aerial Transit to Ease Congestion

As cities worldwide strive to address congestion and reduce emissions, a New Zealand-based startup is proposing an aerial solution. Next year, Whoosh will commence construction on a gondola-style ride-hailing network spanning 370 acres in the tourism hotspot of Queenstown, marking a pioneering development in urban transport. 🚠

Whoosh anticipates its pilot scheme to be operational by 2027, offering an efficient travel alternative. The company claims that its vehicles could halve travel times and operate at twice the efficiency of the most economical electric cars. Passengers will be able to hail rides via an app or ticket-vending machines, making the system convenient and accessible. ⚡

Despite its promise, the project remains untested, and history has seen numerous ambitious transport innovations struggle in ex*****on. Nevertheless, Whoosh has already set its sights on the U.S. market. Swyft Cities, a Google spin-off and Whoosh’s U.S. partner, is in discussions with public- and private-sector clients to explore deployment in five North Texas cities: Dallas, Plano, Arlington, Frisco, and DeSoto. 🌏

//🤩The Future of Childcare Centres: Insights for Developers

For over 25 years, architect Sherif Saad, the head of Sydney-based design firm ArtMade Architects, has been at the forefront of designing childcare centres across Australia. Having observed the sector’s transformation, he shares key insights into what lies ahead.

Traffic congestion and noise are among the most common concerns for communities near childcare centres. Innovative solutions can help mitigate these issues. A notable example is the Picnic Point Preschool and Childcare Centre, where ArtMade Architects was responsible for both architectural and interior design. 🎨

To address noise concerns from the outdoor play area, the design team strategically positioned it on the building’s top floor. Collaborating closely with acoustic and risk engineers, they ensured the design maximised natural light while minimising both overshadowing and noise impact on neighbouring properties.🔊
