Start ugly.

Many wait to be ready.
They worry about problems that don’t exist yet.
They pre-empt the obstacles before they arrive.
They procrastinate over details to be perfect.

They stall their start waiting for the perfect time to be "ready".

Ready is not a state you achieve before you act;
it’s a state you achieve because you act.
It’s never easier because you waited, it’s only possible because you started.

Results live on the other side of ready.
But you have to suck long enough to succeed.

Your doubts will try and derail your dreams.
Your thoughts will try to outweigh your actions
Your lows will normalise your highs
Your wins will be balanced by lessons
Your emotions will cast shadows on your efforts.

Your determination needs to be bigger than the daily derailers.

Ideas have no power without ex*****on.

2 weeks ago, I had an idea to run a workshop.

I wrote up a document, sent out 3 emails, and have filled 90% of the seats already.

The workshop is next Tuesday, it’s already made $2400, and I’ve booked 4 calls from the offer, with one client signing up already.

At the time of promoting the event, I hadn’t even written the ‘presentation’.

So many great ideas die under the weight of waiting for the ‘right time’ and having everything ‘ready’.

Waiting for the right conditions in order to execute is the highest form of procrastination.

Waiting for perfect is keeping you passive and, in a lot of cases, ‘poor’

It’s better to take Imperfect action than wait for that "perfect moment".

A NO will get you closer to an opportunity than hoping will.

Problems ARE part of the solution.

You’re not going to know everything,
you’re not going to get everything right,
things are going to break,
you’re going to feel challenged…

That's the beauty of it.

If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.

When I did my first workshop 3 people showed up
When I sent my first marketing email and got no responses…
When I did my first sales call they didn't ‘get back to me’.

I have felt like a failure far more than I have felt successful.

The common denominator was that I picked myself back up… I got help, asked for advice, I practised and I improved.

For me it’s always Win or Learn.

It’s not a matter of IF I will succeed, it's always a matter of learning how to.

The best way forward is always through.

You can’t conform and be exceptional at the same time.

Doing different to get different takes courage.

When you conform, you’re accepted easier, because you maintain the status quo.

You conform because it's comfortable.

Comfort keeps us safe, but comfort is the thief of progress.

BUT - when you dare to be exceptional, your growth will confront the standards of those around you.

This can be very uncomfortable for others who don’t ‘understand’ your desire for growth and development.

That’s because being exceptional and raising your standards forces those around you to confront theirs.

They'll try and make you fit in with the expectations of their 'normal' because seeing you get better potentially exposes a gap in their life.

But playing small or only rising to meet the expectations of others won’t serve you long-term, and neither will shrinking so that other people feel comfortable with you.

Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.

The world needs more exceptional people.

Because when you dare to be exceptional, you inspire others to do the same.

Average is the enemy of Awesome.

And life is too short for average.

The aim, however, is not happiness; it is fulfilment - these are not the same.

Fulfillment comes from the richness of lived experience.

Happiness is often based on conditions meeting expectations.

In letting go of needing to make others ‘happy’ (The game of attachment)

you find fulfilment through unbound self-expression (The game of empowerment)

Emotion is the byproduct of attachment.

It’s neither good nor bad,

It’s the feedback of pleasure and pain that shapes our experience.

Our experience then becomes our path to expansion.

However, when we hitch our experience to other people's expectations, we shrink.

Fulfillment, therefore, isn’t happiness.

But in letting go of the need to meet the emotional expectations of others,

And in finding the courage to be true to ourselves.

This is the art of living.
