The Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, better known by its informal name “Jonestown”, was a remote settlement in Guyana, South America, established an American cult leader Jim Jones. Jonestown became internationally infamous when, on November 18, 1978, a total of 918 people died by means of mass su***de and murder.

Until the 9/11 attacks on the New York twin towers, the tragedy in Jonestown represented the largest number of American civilian casualties in a single non-natural event.
