INDRO ROAD PROJECT UPDATE Work on the former Indro roundabout is now 80 per cent complete, with revelations it will now cost $257m, double the original $126m estimate. The fed govt and Council are jointly funding the project. The Moggill Rd corridor upgrade will replace the Moggill Rd/Coonan St roundabout with a four-lane flyover, improving traffic flow and creating a safer, more efficient road corridor, Council says. Two lanes on the new flyover opened to traffic in late June and the project’s latest milestone will mean motorists can travel underneath, replacing a temporary diversion via Coonan St. The next phase of the project will involve asphalting remaining sections of the four-lane road, continued works on the overpass abutment and kerb and pavement works. The new design will also improve pedestrian and cyclist safety through signalised crossings and shared paths once complete later this year, Council says. Inbound cars will continue to use the current temporary diversion via the service road as Council finalises construction on the remaining lanes of Moggill Rd. “By building better roads, upgrading our existing transport network and improving public transport we can reduce congestion and deliver the safety improvements our growing city needs,'' Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said. Council's Chair for Infrastructure Andrew Wines said the project would help "tens of thousands of residents'' per day. “Major infrastructure projects can take time and they aren’t always convenient for residents in the short term, but the results will mean safer and more efficient roads,'' he said. Walter Taylor Ward Councillor Penny Wolff said the roundabout had been a pinch point for many years. "This upgrade will play a critical role in improving safety and reducing congestion,'' she said. “This is the biggest road project underway in Brisbane right now and I’m looking forward to seeing local residents reap the benefits once it’s complete.”
