Last year I invited several friends to join me on a fundraising journey for RizeUp. My best Old Mole Heidi, Snapper Jodie, Keryn (you need a nickname) and Kirsty, or Kirk as I like to call her, jumped on board to each raise $10k. Later my son Rylan joined in too. 3 of us have made the goal and 3 of us are so close to our fundraising targets it’s ridiculous.

For our hard earned efforts we all get a trip of a lifetime within Adventure All Stars and Charity TV Global to a secret location to film a philanthropic tv show.

If everyone makes their goal, our combined efforts will help 11 families leaving an abusive relationship to start over! 💙

You can donate individually to their respective pages or here and it will get distributed amongst our fundraising pages.

Your generous donation will assist those affected by domestic and family violence to transition from a life of fear and violence to one of safety and community.

Good morning. I am winding up my latest round of fundraising for RizeUp before the next exciting thing, you won’t believe it, it’s gonna be epic!!

For this round of fundraising; we are $4k short of our target. I know none of us are super rich, even $5 would make a difference and it’s tax deductible so you won’t have to give the tax man as much in June.

Can you give up the price of a coffee or half of one beer to help us help women and children leaving violence to start again?? 💙💙💙

Your generous donation will assist those affected by domestic and family violence to transition from a life of fear and violence to one of safety and community.

EOFY is nearly upon us, if you want to lower your taxable income therefore giving less to the taxman please consider a donation to my team’s (Keryn, Heidi, Rylan, Kirsty and Jodie) fundraising efforts for RizeUp. Every donation action big or small will make a difference.

Your generous donation will assist those affected by domestic and family violence to transition from a life of fear and violence to one of safety and community.

It's been a little while between poddys for me, but today I talk to my new friend Marcia Miller. I met Marcia whilst holidaying in New Zealand recently. She is just one of those amazing people who is smart, caring, giving and blessed with good comedic timing and sarcasm. How could I not hit it off with her.

Marcia lives with her two cats and husband Tom in Illinois (USA). Up until recently she worked as an educator in a prison, bringing schooling to those incarcerated. She is now an administrator, but has not lost her teaching passion or the want to make a difference to her community.

Marcia speaks so fluently and intelligently about prisons and education, and the reduction in recidivism education can bring. I am sure you will enjoy this.

It’s just little ole me chatting about stuff, by myself.

I look at some old Instagram posts and quotes and unpack the meaning behind them.

I am actually surprised I could talk that long about nothing really.

Enjoy x

Alright, I admit it, the idea of recording my best friend and I whilst op shopping together was done on a whim and it may not be the best audio, but by geez there are some pearler comments in this podcast. I actually surprise myself with what comes out of my mouth. If you want a bit of mindless s**t talk between two besties, well welcome to s**t-talking-bestie-ville!

Wow! What a great talk this one is.

I sit down with my new friend Katrina Preisler-Weller and we talk about our mums, both of whom have long since passed. And we talk about dying and death and funerals and how grief never leaves you, you just learn to live with it.

Grief of course doesn't always come along after the death of someone, it can be many things that cause you to grieve, the loss of a job, a change in life...

Katrina is so young at 27, but she is an earthly soul that makes you think she's been around a whole lot longer.

Katrina is the CEO and Founder at https://www.katrinapreislerweller.com. Katrina offers 1-1 grief coaching, workshops and key note speaking on grief and loss and it's impact as well as the tools and resources we can use to support our own natural response to loss.

This week I have 2.5 (ok 3) special guests.

Jo Doyle and Andy McLean are like Dayboro’s very own celebrity couple. Probably should call them Joey or Anjo….

What a fun podcast this one is. I should know I have spent hours trying to get it to sound just right.

We talk brain injuries, 50 first dates, running, music, love at first sight, what lessons Andy has taught Ed Sheeran about performing to live audiences en masse and scrub turkeys. We even get a snippet of a live performance from Jo and get to enjoy some of Andy’s own music.

My boyfriend Phil came along for this ride and had some nice things to add to this fun and very real conversation.

Enjoy!!

Jo n Andy are the ultimate party band. Hit them up for your next shindig! They rock https://www.facebook.com/SeaCrowEntertainment/

This week I have a little catch up with my favourite blonde haired, blue eyed guy, my darling 21 year old son Rylan Gurski.

There’s a bit of dog barking, I couldn’t edit all of it out, otherwise it would be a blank poddy.

We talk work, floods, war and music all from the 21 year old perspective.

It’s nice. I love him.

This week I chat to my friend Alish Conley.

When I and my high needs kids met Alish at the school she was teaching at; she had been teaching for 15 years.

We walked in and turned her teaching world upside down!!! She basically saved us all.

My kids taught Alish patience and she taught them that they were worthy. Teaching is not a lost art, but the regard we have for teachers is a lost tradition. I regard Alish as one of the best teachers, if not the best, I have ever met, and I have met a quite a lot.

Fast forward to 12ish years later and Alish is the Principal of her own school and still has a soft spot for kids who do it tough.

Alish is also as physically strong as she is emotionally resilient; having trained in Muay Thai in Thailand. What a tough cookie.

You will love this chat! She is an amazing human!!! You are going to wish every teacher was like her!!

Last week I had no podcast to give after a guest fell through, this week I have powered through with my amazing friend Heidi Storer.

Heidi is a recent recruit to my friendship circle and is one hell of a human. A mum to 4, a grandmother (yikes), a wife to a very patient man, an above average-average runner, a PT and a really fun yet sensible friend.

We dive deep on teenage pregnancy, family bonds and unconditional love. As well as a little bit about running (of course). This eppy was going to be called “The Old Mole Patrol” because that’s how we refer to ourselves when we run after affectionately being named “The Old Moles” by our running “Old Mate”; Jim. I however opted for maturity instead. Naturally.

Heidi’s PT business can be found here: https://instagram.com/trainwithequinoxpt and here https://www.facebook.com/trainwithequinoxpt/

The 5 Foot Personal Protection Specialist

This week I talk to my friend Erin Cash. I have had to heavily edit this one because she has NO FILTER (soo good); sorry for the dodgey editing and interludes!

Erin retired from the Coppers 16 years ago and what a full life she has had! She’s worked in the “Riot Squad”, been a child abuse investigator detective, an educator, was a competitive full contact martial artist and holds numerous advanced level qualifications in fitness and coaching.

Her guiding principles are that fitness, nutrition, and personal safety are paramount to people living healthy and productive lives. She aims to reach as many families and workplaces as possible with the highest quality programs to teach, shape and empower women, the elderly, people with disabilities, teens and children.

This week I chat to my friend Angela Woodward (Nee Kennedy). Ang was in the Australian swim team for 10 years in the 1990s.

I call Ang “Rings” (Olympic Rings) because she went to the Olympics. She’s the only person I know that went to the Olympics and she won a medal. She used to carry shame with that medal though and how she won it.

Ang and her coach Peter Freney of the Telopea Club pioneered and perfected an under water kick that literally propelled her career in butterfly.

Rings is a super wonderful human being. She’s a wife, a mum to two teenage boys and a step mum too.

Rings was a copper, is now a teacher and shares some pretty inspirational stuff about goal setting and how she has overcome her Olympic silver medal-shame from 1996.

Her post swimming career was nearly eclipsed by a roller derby career, but she was lacking one thing that held her back in this domain.

This was one of my most favourite chats with a person who was quite a reluctant participant initially. I reckon you are gonna fall in love with this little Aussie Olympic Teacher!!

This week’s episode is me rabbiting on each day about my week in “iso” after my 18 year old daughter got “The Vid” and our household went into lockdown.

I had my darling friend Erin lined up for the next episode, but despite our best attempts our audio was crap, in that we could not hear each other!! So as luck would have it, you just get me, well me, with the kids making a couple of cameos and my old dog and his stiff lungs crackling in the background cause he needs to be near me constantly.

You’ll have to listen all the way to the end to find out if we escape “Iso” on day 7!

When you meet Lizzie, there is a beauty about her, sure her outside package is stunning, but that is not where her beauty radiates from, there’s something super special about her as a human.

I didn’t know much about Lizzie at all going into this chat and wowzers she is a softly spoken, non-sweary powerhouse of inspiration.

She has turned her own dv story to one that fuels her to help others with a passion and vigour only other survivors will truly understand.

My own voice audio is a bit s**t. Lizzie’s is perfect though. I have tried my best to quieten the distortion on my audio, but please persist, Lizzie talks more often than I do. Her voice is like a calming lullaby.

Lizzie works for Complete Corporate Services and the is super eager to help other DV survivors http://www.completecorp.com.au

Another good ole chin wag with my lifelong bestie “V”.

This eppy kind of turns into her interviewing me. She wanted to deep dive on some stuff I scratched the surface on when I had a cry whilst podcasting on another episode.

We talk nature and vision boards and a whole lot of crap in between!

Enjoy!

My friend Sally Brouwer is my guest this episode.

Sally is dry and witty with a heart as big as a giant watermelon.

She can pack an awful lot into one little podcast. She is a mum to teenage triplets, a former copper, fitness professional, nutritionist, lifestyle coach and clinical hypnotherapist.

Sal runs the successful Sally Brouwer Fitness where she helps women and men get fit, healthy and strong

Gosh we laugh in this episode. We talk about autism, eating veggies, lots of veggies and of course how she is gonna ride my coat tails on through the pearly gates one day.

I know you will enjoy this one.

In this episode I talk to my friend and author TJ (Terese Jones).

I took my roving microphone to TJ's home, so there's a couple of grumbles in the audio along the way.

We talk about lots of things, but most importantly TJ's self published novel - Blood Will Tell. I personally read this book myself and it blew me away that it was so bloody good.

The book takes you back in time to the 1880's in Boston with forensic pathologist, Sloane Kelly to prevent a murder.

This book has everything from a missing body, stolen diamonds, and an African curse which helps create a mystery novel that will have you questioning everything. I normally can guess the end, but I did not in this book.

Here's the link to TJ's website where you can buy the book yourself, it's also on Amazon as a digital book.

In this episode I talk to my friend Allana Bianchi.

Allana is engaging and funny with a laugh that is contagious.

She explains the difference between corporate and running tutus, it’s an interesting delineation.

She is also a runner and an Outreach Ambassador for parkrun. She organised an Octogenarian parkrun event to celebrate how age isn’t a barrier to participation (running, walking, volunteering). The outcome was impressive.

We talk all things parkrun and social prescriptions.

This is such a fun talk. I think it’s a great lead in into Christmas, just pure joy.

16/12/2021

In this episode I talk to my friend Robyn Night. Robyn had her name and address posted on adult and social media websites with her face superimposed on pictures of women carrying out sexual acts.

Words such as "here for your pleasure" and "I'm home alone now and ready for your punishment" were written on the websites.

As a result, more than 50 men visited her family home from 2011 to 2015. During that time, Robyn was pregnant and became a mother.

Ryan Kotynski, 42, pleaded guilty to stalking, domestic violence, using another person's identification to commit an offence and possessing child exploitation material.

The pair were involved in a relationship that ended 10 years prior.

Robyn had to fight the system along the way to have her voice heard and walked out of the sentencing hearing, after delivering a victim impact statement with the fire in her belly to change the system for others.

Robyn is bloody amazing, enjoy listening to this powerful woman!!

Here’s a link to some of her media stories:
