This week Bette (she/they) talks with Jack McWilliam (he/they), a local trans social worker and founder of Rainbow Affinity, a service that provides outreach counselling support to LGBTQIA+SB folk. He also provides Affirmative Practice training and is a passionate advocate for creating better access to AOD services for trans and non-binary folk.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), also known as the International Transgender Day of Remembrance, is today (November 20th) and is a day to memorialise those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia. This episode is a heavy one where Sean, Sev and Ez are in studio together. Every year the Transgender Murder Monitor releases their count the number of trans, non-binary and gender diverse people who’ve been lost to violence in the last year.
Counted from the 1st of October 2023 til the 30th of September 2024, the demographics wont surprise you. Overwhelmingly they’re people of colour. Overwhelmingly they are transfeminine. Staggering numbers of them are s*x workers, migrants or refugees.

Debunking the 80% “Desistance” Myth

With Ez away sick, Bette (she/they) flies solo in the studio for the first time, digging deep into the central piece of disinformation used by anti-trans campaigners: the oft-repeated myth that over 80% of trans kids will come to identify as cisgender as they mature. Find out why this statistic is so misleading and what constituted “gender nonconformity” in the 1950s-1980s. And no, there is no “cure” for being transgender.

This week Ez & Bette are in studio talking about the week in community events including the Brisbane Pride Inc. March and community pride events around town. If you are interested in attending the march come to Queens Garden at 9:30am Sat 21st of September then from 10am marching to Musgrave Park over the bridge and into West End.

This episode Ez shares an article about Steve-O from Jackass and his decision to NOT have breast implants following a conversation with a trans person. Also, the reading of a Scientific American article by Brandy Schillace about "The Forgotten History of the World's First Trans Clinic" and Ez's call to action for everyone to come out and march over the weekend to show solidarity with the community and continue the fight for trans rights!
