._.pals presents ‘Split Between’, their end of year show for 2024.
This is an exhibition of local emerging artists experimenting with and exploring both bodily and immaterial relationships to space. Fragmented across broad realms of dreams and waking, the domestic everyday, bodily labour, dysfunction, memory and virtuality; featured artists skip through portals and crash into walls hoping to understand their place place in specificity and in relation to all else.

Best Friends (the variety talk show) is back for a last minute mega smash hit night of love, fun, magic and mayhem at 💙💙

Jam packer-ed with stunning guests, incredible performers, raffle-affle prizies, cutie cutie craft activities and some karaoke! Raising money for 2 local artists, Gogo Bumhole and Small Paul , who are off on a tour of Europe where they are gonna perform some shows and do some learning and growing at some Euro Clown Workshops. TONIGHT at VENTspace! presents 's work 'Alethic'.

The works takes the audience into deep immersion, physical and psychosensory. The work is variably formatted but at its’ highest delivery mode uses ambisonic sound to put the audience inside the 3D sound. Similarly up to 12 thousand pixel width visual content can fully surround the audience with the requisite technical production values and staging. All of this interactively controlled by my performance in real time. Video camera sources linear and realtime are also used and integrated at times. Much of the visual content is mathematically generated using a range of algorithmic styles and approaches including AI and machine learning.

'BEMAC Unplugged: Kristal West - Tribute to Dr. Eddie and Dr. Bonita Mabo' hosted at VENTspace for

Kristal West is proud Piadram, Manbarra, Palawa and Nywagi songstress and granddaughter of legendary First Nations’ land rights activist, Dr Eddie Koiki Mabo, who overturned the legal doctrine of terra nullius and Dr Bonita Mabo AO, a staunch black rights activist. In this concert, Kristal pays tribute to her late grandparents and sings to their fight for black rights and their pride for language, culture and identity.

The songs and stories she performs also speak directly of the emotional connections of family and community, with deeply personal reflections on her family connections to Mer Island in the Torres Strait, on the quest for identity –and its challenges– in an urban environment, and advocate for a walk toward renewed reconciliation, with pride in the strong, rich culture and communities she has her roots in.

Writing and singing in Meriam Mir, Torres Strait Island Creole, and English languages, Kristal’s music tells stories of her upbringing, the Mabo court case, learning about her country and storylines, and the importance of culture, language and identity as a First Nations’ person.

“I write music drawing inspiration from my bloodlines, First Nations’ history, community and our continued journey towards Reconciliation.”

Kristal West is the 2024 recipient of the Dennis ‘Mop’ Conlon Scholarship

Ukam Maran is our West Papua Hip-Hop Artist and special guest, coming to so-called australia for this national tour, but to our event in particular since it focuses on Hip-Hop. Ukam is a key figure in one of the films we are screening called, "Papua Hip-Hop 'When the Microphone is On'". Ukam is also part of the successful group Sarong Samurai, a West Papua/PNG/Australian band.

Showcasing some of the most extraordinary artists in Southeast Queensland who create GRAND works, the event will be a celebration of large scale mural art and the dedicated artists behind your favorite local landmarks.

As a photographer, has accompanied some of the nation's most prominent painters out in the field (or up the side of multi-story buildings) to capture the intimate moments and rarely seen faces responsible for the creation of truly massive artworks.

This exhibition will feature over 100 images to explore and dissect, as well as DJ performances, licensed cocktail bar and mingling of like-minded creatives in all field of art.

Slippery, the award-winning play by Esther Dougherty is BACK - and travelling! 🧳

The cast and crew will be hitting the road in January 2024 for a season at Midsumma Festival and at Adelaide Fringe - and they need your help! The Slippery team and Curtain World are throwing an ooky spooky co-dependent fundraiser called Ghost-Fund-Me at VENTspace on Jan 5, and inviting along heaps of friends and alter egos to keep you entertained, mesmerised, and stuck in this mansion forever!!!!

💍 Enjoy a sausage sizzle, a drink at the bar, some photos of yourself (obsessed!), a craft activity, a seance? (maybe - quite scared to f**k with this actually), LIVE MUSIC, PERFORMANCE, DRAG, DANCES, RAFFLES and an exclusive preview of the Slippery 10-min dance extravaganza coming to Midsumma Carnival - ssweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

👻 It will be action packed and love-filled and all money raised supports a group of local artists with their travel costs to bring a show they have worked very hard on in QLD to the gods and giants of the southern states (awesome!).

HELL HATH NO FURY after Euripides Medea
An evening of performances inspired by Euripides Medea, presented by the graduating Acting and Song & Dance students from The Australian Performing Arts Conservatory.

The acting graduates will retell the story of Medea in a gritty, bare-bones theatre-in-the-round production, punctuated by stylised song and movement pieces presented by the Song and Dance graduates.

SYNOPSIS
Medea gave everything she ever had to be with the man she loved, and now he marries another woman and leaves her out in the cold. But she will not be silenced. Medea calls upon her ancient magical powers and takes unspeakable revenge on the man she loved and everyone he holds dear.

Black Ink: Open Mic Night 🎤

To celebrate conversation and discourse in the Bla(c)k Diaspora, the theme for this Open Mic is ‘The Culture Academic’. Show up in a tweed blazer, smart trousers, greys, browns, and blacks. But most importantly bring a book to exchange on the night. As an ode to shared knowledge.

Black Ink is an open mic / Arthub aimed at centring African diaspore artists but also creating a community for BIPOC artists.

Our featured poet for Black Ink Open Mic will be SOLCHLD gracing the stage with her melody-making, spoken word performance and poetry. She will be supported by other spoken word artists based in Brisbane.

Aurora Liddle-Christie aka SOLCHLD is a Meanjin-based multidisciplinary artist whose music, spoken word poetry and performance work bring ancient wisdom to the new age experience.
