Morning everyone! 🥰 I’ve noticed some of our newbies have been asking about macrame cord (love seeing all your enthusiasm!).

So, here’s a quick rundown of what to look for when you’re just getting started:

For Beginners:

➡️ Go for 4mm or 5mm cord, preferably 3ply – it’s versatile, sturdy, and gives your knots great definition! If you prefer a softer look, single-strand cord works too.

➡️ Both types can be brushed out for feathers and fringe. With 3ply, just unravel it first – super easy to do!

My Top Pick for US Members:

I highly recommend Ganxxet’s 4mm 3ply Natural Cotton Rope. It’s soft on your hands, strong enough for plant hangers, and eco-friendly (made from recycled cotton)! Perfect for beginners or pros looking for precision and detail in their knots.

Use the code TEACHMEMACRAME10 at checkout to save 10% – it’s a great way to start your macrame journey with high-quality cord😍

My Top Pick for Australian Members:

My absolute favourite 3ply and single strand cord is from Knot Knitting and it’s what I use in my work, majority of the time... ❤️

Small Spaces, Big Style ....Tiny houses are all about maximising space without sacrificing style, and macrame fits right in!

Whether you’re living the tiny house dream or just love compact living, macrame really can add warmth, function, and personality to your cosy space.

Here’s how macrame could transform a tiny house:

❤️ Space-Saving Storage: Macrame hanging shelves are perfect for keeping essentials off the ground while adding a stylish touch. Think spice racks, book holders, or plant displays!

❤️ Macrame Curtains: Use them as room dividers or window coverings to create privacy while keeping your space light and airy.

❤️ Vertical Greenery: Tiny spaces thrive with plants, and macrame plant hangers let you bring nature indoors without taking up precious floor space.

❤️ Functional Decor: From hanging organisers to macrame baskets, these pieces double as art and storage solutions.

❤️ Custom Tiny Touches: Small wall hangings or keyholders add personality without overwhelming your space.

Tiny homes prove you don’t need a lot of space to live big, and macrame is the perfect way to add charm and functionality to your space.

Macrame Makers, you know the drill:

Find a new project.
Search through your 800 rolls of cord.
Realise none of them are ‘right.’
Buy more cord.

And the cycle continues! 😂

Save this for the next time someone asks why you need more cord – they’ll never understand!
😜❤️

...... and ? 🤷‍♀️ I totally don't see the problem! 🤣

Hands up if you’ve fallen for those jaw-dropping macrame Xmas Tree wall hangings doing the rounds on social media lately? 🙋‍♀️

They are stunning, they are inspiring, but… they aren’t real. Yep, those beauties are AI-generated images.

Now, don’t get me wrong – I love seeing creative, next-level ideas. For experienced makers, they can spark a fun challenge to push our skills. But for beginners and macrame lovers, these images can give unrealistic expectations of what’s achievable – at least without a little ‘cheating’ (hello, frames and supports!).

The truth is, gravity is a thing. Real macrame wall hangings – especially ones as intricate and oversized as those – would need some serious reinforcement to avoid buckling in on themselves.

To bring things back to reality, here’s a macrame Christmas tree I made a few years ago. It’s fun, achievable, and a little festive reminder to appreciate the real magic we can create with our hands.

If you fell for it, you’re not alone – no judgement here! But let’s keep it real and celebrate the joy of real handmade art.

What do you think? Are you inspired to try something wild, or do you prefer to keep it simple and stunning?

Drop your thoughts (and any macrame wins or fails) in the comments!
