I said a while back many many years ago now that Actor's always need to put their best foot forward with each and every single project they tackle and undertake.
You need to put your soul into your work, It needs to take a part of you with it. Film is Forever it lasts and never dies. "Pain is Temporary, Film is Forever" - Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings). I'm saying all this now from understanding and knowledge have happened to have the last 5-6 years off to think about it. The struggles I've faced due to circumstances.
It could be years before they see a finished product release. And you need to put your best foot forward. You get one shot at it. Make it Count. Put your all into it. Satisfy yourself. I keep hearing from Actors like O' I have regrets I should of done more I should of done this I should of done that I really seriously do not want to hear it. You have one shot one job get it right Keep going until you get it in the bag. Everyone needs to be satisfied with what they have done work wise keep going until you get it in the can I've always said that there's a magical connection that is made between Actor, and the shot, these two in my mind are essential and need to both be nailed as the audience build a bridge a connection is made between the actors performance on screen and the shot. You cannot see it but its there and a good director knows this. So keep going until both these are nailed everything else is also equally important as well but not so much but these two things in my opinion are the most Important things to nail. You keep going until you nail them then once you are in editing you have many options to cut together.
Actors also need to realize that its up to the Director and the Editor that is going to make you look good in the end but you my friend need to provide the content and it must be spot on and good. You cannot polish a turd it doesn't matter how hard you try it must be good.
So I do not want to hear from Actors that come up to me years later saying they could of done more, they could of done better I seriously don't want to hear that s**t it breaks my heart.
You get One shot one job to do, get it right. End of story. As long as you put your all into it at the given time that's all that matters in the end be grateful and satisfied with what you have done at the given time. Have No Regrets. You are always going to be learning new and better things but you need to ALWAYS! put your best foot forward with everything you do in life. You get one shot at it Make it Count. Have No Regrets. Push yourselves I personally don't see enough people doing it these days because they are afraid to go through a bit of temporary pain in order to achieve great results and greatness.
My whole life has consisted of it to some degree so I like to think that I'm a bit of a veteran when it comes to going through the thresholds of pain in order to grow but it never gets any easier lets just say that so just look and find a way of embracing it somehow that's the best you can do, that's all you can do at the end of the day. Look it dead in the eyes and say "F**k it!". and push on you are going to get it with each film you work on in some degree.
Films should never be easy to make if done right that's my opinion. Look you do try your very best to try and make them a lot easier to work on at the end of the day but the content never truly goes down easy. It should supply its own set of challenges, Magic is made in the edit. I'm going to give you an example.
I am 150% satisfied and content with what I have done and learnt on every film I have worked on because I know I have put my absolute soul into everything I have done at that given time. Of course I look back at certain things now from what I've already currently learnt and I'm like yes I should of done this, changed that etc Ill do it with the next film I work on But the key and secret is making sure you are satisfied and you are 150% sold with what you have done on any given production that's all that matters in the end I know I keep on saying it again and again in this post but I cannot stress enough its importance. But the bottom line is being satisfied at that given time. I have absolutely No Regrets at the end of the day that's all that matters. In the end is going to your grave knowing you did your absolute best in life. No regrets that's what its all about ladies and gents.
Btw on a side note I hope everyone has a Great Christmas and New Years this year. It has been a busy year for me this year busier than the last 4-5 years that's for sure. I'm here to share, spread the love and the knowledge I've obtained over the past 10 or so plus years doing this very brutal as f**k industry but most rewarding thing I have ever done hands down.
