THE Waubra Cemetery has recently undergone a thoughtful and visually striking transformation. Thanks to the combined efforts of local businesses, volunteers, and funding support, visitors will now notice the addition of a new white PVC fence and the restoration of the historic front gates—works that reflect both pride and care for this treasured site. TODAY will be a day of celebration at Amphitheatre Primary School as students, staff and parents celebrate its 150th anniversary.Established on the 1st of September 1875, the Amphitheatre primary school No. 1637 opened with a singular, high ceilinged room and an elevated floor at one end for infants. With a fluctuating number of students over the next 50 years, two separate classrooms were created - forming the basis of the primary school as it stands today. While modernised, the school still has two historic trees that have touched the hearts and imaginations of past and present students. The 100-year-old oak tree stands tall in the back corner while the 80-year-old quince tree frames the front entrance and has become a major part of the school's logo.As a community event, Principal Louis Franc invites past and present students, young and old to come together to celebrate a long-awaited day.The day will begin with an open school at 1pm where old photos and memorabilia will be on display, allowing visitors to reminisce and share previous memories of the school.Attendees will walk through a gallery of photos and see the journey of the school across eras.As well as this, an official ceremony will take place at 2:30pm, with both current and former students reflecting on what the school means to them - followed by an afternoon tea.Festivity and connections can continue through the day with a reunion of the past and present members at the adjoining recreation reserve from 1pm until late.
