Total Fire Ban declared
A Total Fire Ban has been declared for today across all of Pyrenees Shire and the wider region due to elevated fire danger conditions.
This means no fires can be lit in the open air or allowed to remain alight from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm.
Forecasts predict hot, dry, and windy conditions across Victoria.
Avoca and Beaufort are both expecting a top temperature of 42 degrees today.
Strong north to northwest winds, with damaging gusts of up to 80 km/h, are expected ahead of a south to south-westerly cool change, which will sweep across the state from the southwest at around 2 pm, extend further west by 5 pm, and reach central parts of the state by 8 pm.
Before the change, dry thunderstorms and lightning are possible, while the change itself may bring wet thunderstorms.
A Total Fire Ban means harvesting activities, like operating headers or tractors, must be carefully managed, as sparks or heat from equipment can easily ignite dry grass.
Fireworks and open-air fires, including campfires are also off-limits.
People travelling on the V/Line service between Ararat and Melbourne are running to an extreme heat timetable and some services may be delayed or cancelled and replaced with coaches.

There’s a buzz at the WWaubra Preschoolat present and excitement in the air as the Preschool children put their final touches to their art work in readiness for an exhibition. The Waubra Preschool Art Exhibition will be held on Friday 22nd November at the Preschool.
The exhibition will feature art work completed by the children this year and an unveiling of a very special piece of work will take place.
During the year the Preschool has been involved in a project called the Discovery Dairy Picasso Cow.
The teachers have worked with the children to make decisions on how to decorate the life size cow sculpture.
Their decisions and the journey taken has been documented in a class journal. The results are amazing, with some very special thought processes having been undertaken, which are bound to be shared during the unveiling.
When the Advocate visited recently six of the students were keen to share their excitement about their artwork, while other students were busily engaged in the playground enjoying the Spring sunshine.
The Waubra Preschool Art Exhibition is on Friday the 22nd of November from 5.30pm to 7pm at the Community Hub, followed by the Waubra Wind Farm family movie night from 7pm to 10pm.
The Waubra Wind Farm is celebrating 15 years of operations and invites community members to join them for a free and fun-filled evening with a BBQ, outdoor games including a Footy Shoot Out and Giant Connect 4, popcorn, slushy machine, the Hippie Whippy ice cream truck and an outdoor movie screening of ‘Shrek’.
The movie will commence at sunset and, while some beanbags will be supplied, we recommend bringing some chairs, picnic rugs and blankets for the kids.

THREE NEW COUNCILLORS
PYRENEES Shire Council has had its biggest shake up in over 15 years with three new councillors elected.
The Victorian Electoral Commission has confirmed two members of the previous council – David Clark and Ron Eason – have been defeated in their respective wards.
Mr Eason was easily defeated in the Avoca ward by Rebecca Wardlaw - 255 votes to 818 votes.
Mr Clark narrowly lost his Ercildoune ward to Simon Tol – 449 votes to 516 votes.
In De Cameron ward, vacated by former Mayor Robert Vance, Moonambel’s Megan Phelan (pictured) won on preferences over Kate Tol.
None of the four candidates in De Cameron ward had a clear majority after all votes had been counted.
Rose LaVie secured 67 votes, Fiona Williamson won 229 votes, Kate Tol won 347 votes and Megan Phelan won 335 votes.
At lunchtime today, the VEC concluded the preference count which showed Ms Phelan had won 505 votes to Ms Tol’s 473 votes.
Councillor Damian Ferrari and Councillor Tanya Kehoe were both returned in their respective wards.
Cr Ferrari received 567 votes in Beaufort ward to Paul Callahan’s 473 votes.
Cr Kehoe received 563 votes in Mt Emu ward to her challenger Dan Ferguson’s 422 votes.
All five councillors will be sworn in at a ceremony at the shire offices in Beaufort later today.
Councillors will meet next week to decide who’ll be the next mayor likely to be one of the experienced councillors Damian Ferrari or Tanya Kehoe.

Council upset
THE composition of councillors at Pyrenees Shire appears to have changed dramatically, with progressive counting suggesting two sitting councillors are headed for defeat.
The Advocate can reveal at least one sitting councillor has been defeated while another is trailing in his ward.
Avoca ward councillor Ron Eason has been beaten by Rebecca Wardlaw.
Progressive results posted on Wednesday night indicate Ms Wardlaw had 724 votes to Mr Eason’s 239. 293 votes remain outstanding.
In Ercildoune ward it’s a closer race where David Clark is trailing Simon Tol 395 to 454 with 270 votes yet to be returned.
Tanya Kehoe and Damian Ferrari appear to have been returned in their respective wards.
The progressive count reveals Mr Ferrari has secured 505 votes to Paul Callanan’s 427 votes in Beaufort ward with 342 votes remaining outstanding.
Ms Kehoe has 487 votes to Dan Ferguson’s 365 votes in Mt Emu Ward with 324 votes outstanding.
The progressive count in De Cameron ward shows no clear winner and the successful candidate will be relying on preference distribution.
Kate Tol and Megan Phelan are the frontrunners with 299 and 296 votes respectively while Fiona Williamson has secured 197 votes and Rose LaVie has 65 votes. There are 293 votes outstanding.
All postal votes must be received at the Victorian Electoral Commission office in Beaufort my midday Friday.

THE restored Carranballac State School (1841-1978) mural was unveiled last weekend at the Carranballac Hall.
Elaine Anderson (Graham), a former student of the former school on the Glenelg Highway, spearheaded the reconstruction of the 1964 mural, which had been created by students to commemorate the school’s 50th anniversary.
Years of wear and tear had left the piece in desperate need of repair.
Past students, teachers, and locals gathered at Carranballac Hall for the unveiling, including Carranballac’s oldest living former student, Harry Waldron, and Mary Forsyth, the original creator of the mural and a former teacher at the school.

MEMBER for Mallee Anne Webster says Victorian Senator Lidia Thorpe should face motions to remove her from the Senate for her appalling behaviour on Monday toward His Majesty King Charles.
Dr Webster was in Canberra on Monday attending the civic reception for Their Majesties the King and Queen Camilla and was ropable at Senator Thorpe’s conduct.
“I told her in the Great Hall that she is a disgrace to the Parliament. It is important to note that the Victorian Greens put Senator Thorpe in the Senate, and that their leader endorsed her behaviour on Monday,” Dr Webster said.
