This month's play is Louis Esson's Diggers' Rest [aka The Road of Improvement, The Fossicker and performed as the inaugural production of The Pioneer Players as The Battler in 1922]. Also I'm making available two further Esson collections: his complete Verse; and his complete Prose Fiction and Journalism ... the latter including an extraordinary series of articles that provide insight into our provincial drama immediately post Federation. Pleased to announce the release of the first volume in my new Australian Heritage Drama Series: two plays by Leon Brodzky (aka Spencer Brodney). Brodzky (1883-1973) is a neglected early advocate of an Australian provincial and repertory theatre. He was only 19 and still at University when he contributed his first articles to The Bulletin (on dramaturgy) and Table Talk (on Irish nationalist poet and playwright WB Yeats) in 1902. The following year, he wrote a clarion call for ‘the local dramatist’ in a major article in Adelaide's The Critic. New plays will appear monthly with biographies and commentary and available as downloadable PDFs. Future writers include Louis Esson, Euphemia Coulson Davidson, Kate Howarde and Millicent Armstrong. www.janusimprint.com
