1948 Stevie Wright, Australian singer, songwriter, and musician. Called Australia's first international pop star, he is best known for being the lead singer of the Easybeats, who are widely regarded as the greatest Australian pop band of the 1960s.

1955 Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Ed Kuepper was born in Bremen, West Germany. He was co-founder of the band who put out one of Australia’s most significant and groundbreaking albums, The Saints, then later the Laughing Clowns.

1957 English singer-songwriter and left-wing activist Billy Bragg. He wrote 'New England' the 1985 hit for Kirsty MacColl, and has released over 10 albums.

1950 American-born Australian singer-songwriter and producer Ross Ryan was born in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His signature tune, "I Am Pegasus", was released in 1973, and peaked at No.2 on the Australian Singles Chart. Its parent album, “My Name Means Horse”, reached No.3 on the Australian Album chart. Ryan’s family moved to Mount Manypeaks near Albany, Western Australia when he was just eight years old. He attended Albany Senior High School, where he took the lead in The Music Man; and he produced a radio program, High School Half Hour, for the local station 6VA.

Gibbons formed ZZ Top in late 1969 and released ZZ Top's first album in 1971. He was ranked at number 32 on the 2011 Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

1955 Bass player Paul Simonon was born in Croydon, England. Best known as the bass player for The Clash, also a member of the Gorillaz.

1993 MTV aired Nirvana's 'Unplugged' session for the first time. The album featured an acoustic performance taped at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993. 1944 American musician, singer, and songwriter Dennis Wilson who co-founded The Beach Boys. He is best remembered as their drummer and as the middle brother of bandmates Brian and Carl Wilson.

2019 Mental as Anything keyboard player, singer, and songwriter Andrew “Greedy” Smith passed away. Greedy was a much-loved, larger-than-life personality in Australian music who wrote many of the Mental’s hit songs including "Live It Up" which peaked at No.2 on the Australian singles chart. He also had a solo music career, worked with other bands, and was an artist and sometime TV host.

1933 John Mayall, 'father of the UK blues movement', his Bluesbreakers Band has featured Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Jack Bruce, Peter Green and Jimmy McCulloch.

1956 Australian singer, songwriter, musician and producer Chris Bailey. He was the co-founder and singer of rock band the Saints. Their debut single '(I'm) Stranded' (1976) has been cited as "one of the iconic singles of the era", and pre-dated debuts by contemporary punk acts such as the S*x Pistols, Buzzcocks and The Clash.

1969 The Beatles went to No.1 on the US singles chart with their twenty-sixth release in the United States.'Come Together / Something', which became the group's 18th US No.1.

1969 Blood, Sweat And Tears see a third single, "And When I Die", peak at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Their singles "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and "Spinning Wheel" also topped out at the second spot earlier in the year.

The album features the group's second UK No.1 single, "Start!", and spent 19 weeks on the UK Albums Chart, rising to No.2 in late 1980.

1980 Adam and the Ants released the single “Antmusic”. The song from the album “Kings of the Wild Frontier” by the band fronted by the charismatic, face-painted new wave icon Adam Ant, went to No.1 in Australia, spending five weeks on top of the charts.

1983 The Pseudo Echo single “Listening” debuted on the Australian charts.
