Our Story

Hi there! I’m Hok, the founder and editor behind Your Local Hok.

My passion for my creative venture began with the exploration for things to do on the weekend in Adelaide.

When I began my search for things to do and discover in Adelaide, I didn’t know exactly where to start. Social media, especially Instagram and Facebook, gave me an insight into some of the events that were going on in Adelaide. I recall discovering a fashion market, and when I first attended it, I was amazed at the atmosphere and wide variety of stalls and creatives. From this point onward, I realised that Adelaide is not a boring place at all, contrary to some people’s beliefs that there is ‘nothing to do in Adelaide’.

Adelaide offers such an array of festivals, events, markets, food and drink, and creative culture. Furthermore, our city has a vibrant grass-roots and entrepreneurship culture, and I think that’s what drives a lot to people to start their own creative adventure or small business. As I attended more and more local events with familiar faces, I gained the confidence to begin introducing myself to the local creatives. As I became more of a familiar face and name, I felt like I had joined a welcoming community full of like-minded souls. Soon enough, I started my own creative platform, Your Local Hok
