WOW - Friday night was INSANE!!! Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
DARK OZ was at the Adelaide Showgrounds for the SPIN OFF Festival - 19-July-2024

The music was fantastic!
My personal favourite band was 'THE LAST DINNER PARTY' - seriously awesome stage performance and music. If you've ever seen the movie 'Streets of Fire' (1984) with Diane Lane as a hot rock chick, that's what this reminded me of.

LOTS of other great acts too: G Flip, Girl in Red, Peach PRC, Conan Gray, Michael Marcagi, Rum Jungle, etc etc etc

The whole day ran from 11am to 11pm, and the crowds just kept building up all day long. Had some good sales for DARK OZ comics too (comics, magazines, posters), while listening to fantastic concerts on stage right in front of the DARK OZ booth. Amazing performers from Australian and around the globe, all here in Adelaide for one day/night only - awesome!!!
Shared the booth with DKarta Studios - big THANKS!!!

Seriously awesome event. If you missed out be sure to keep an eye out for it next year.

This is a seriously AWESOME new horror movie, with genuinely creepy crawly moments, yet also a charming warm vibe - you'll have great fun being scared, ha ha.
An Australian made movie featuring pages of comic book art from DARK OZ - this is history in the making for Australian comic books and movies. Filmed in Sydney while set in New York, with a fantastic cast, lovable characters and well written dialogue, you will love this movie.

- One cold, stormy night in New York City, a mysterious object falls from the sky and smashes through the window of a rundown apartment building. It is an egg, and from this egg emerges a strange little spider…

- The creature is discovered by Charlotte, a rebellious 12-year-old girl obsessed with comic books. Despite her stepfather Ethan’s best efforts to connect with her through their comic book co-creation Fang Girl, Charlotte feels isolated. Her mother and Ethan are distracted by their new baby and are struggling to cope, leaving Charlotte to bond with the spider. Keeping it as a secret pet, she names it Sting.

- As Charlotte's fascination with Sting increases, so does its size. Growing at a monstrous rate, Sting's appetite for blood becomes insatiable. Neighbours’ pets start to go missing, and then the neighbours themselves. Soon Charlotte’s family and the eccentric characters of the building realise that they are all trapped, hunted by a ravenous supersized arachnid with a taste for human flesh... and Charlotte is the only one who knows how to stop it.

Runtime: 91 mins
Director: Kiah Roache-Turner
Actors: Alyla Browne, Ryan Corr, Jermaine Fowler, Penelope Mitchell, Noni Hazlehurst, Robyn Nevin, Silvia Colloca, Danny Kim

To WIN... just post an image of the new Australian movie magazine (from Dark Oz) that features an in-depth interview with STING writer/director Kiah Roache-Turner [HINT - see previous post on the DECAY horror comic page for images]. It's a fantastic interview, a must read, and has NO spoilers. Kiah is a fan of 70's/80's movies and his love shows through in STING.

Cosplay & Comics DARK OZ

WOW - what an amazing weekend!!! Sunday was a little slower than Saturday, but overall just a fantastic weekend thanks to Supanova Comic Con & Gaming

Some incredible cosplayers, and everyone loves DARK OZ comics and magazines.
Finished the weekend off with a 14 hour non-stop drive from Sydney back to Adelaide - in the dark for much of the drive as it's mid winter here, just a couple days after the 'shortest day of the year'. Luckily it really wasn't too cold, didn't rain and didn't have any problems with kangaroos hopping across the road.

NOTE - the new creepy crawly spider horror movie STING, featuring pages of DARK OZ comic book art, will now be released in Australia from 18-July, in cinemas nation wide. Stay tuned for a special DARK OZ advance screening event of STING on Saturday 13-July in Adelaide.

THE EXORCISM
Shot as a movie within a movie, The Exorcism stars Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe as Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who is trying to resuscitate his career when he lands the lead role of a priest in a supernatural horror film about an exorcism.

As unsettling events unfold, his "lucky break" takes a dark turn. The director (Adam Goldberg), aiming for authenticity, subjects the struggling actor to humiliating treatment, forcing him to confront past traumas and accelerating his decline.

Witnessing his suffering, Anthony’s estranged daughter (Ryan Simpkins) turns to the film's priest advisor (David Hyde Pierce) for help.

Has the pressure of making the film sent Anthony back to his old addictions, or has it opened a portal to something more sinister?

Only in cinemas June 13
