We're so pleased to announce that Closer has been selected as a recipient of Screen Australia Enterprise Business funding 🎉

📣NEWS!📣 Three SA filmmakers and two SA production companies have been selected as part of Screen Australia's Enterprise Funding!

Biri-Gubba, Guugu Yimidhirr and Kuku Yalanji filmmaker Sierra Schrader will undertake a six-month placement with Aaron Ryder at Ryder Picture Company in Los Angeles, focusing on the company's film production next year, gaining deeper insights into projects during their pre-production, production, and post-production stages, while continuing to build her skills as a true multi-hyphenate key creative.

Wirangu, Kokatha and Larrakia woman and an independent screen producer Nara Wilson will undertake a 12-month placement with SA animation studio Vishus Productions, increasing her skills across creating finance plans and A-Z budgets and gaining experience working with national and international commissioners.

Filmmaker Madeleine Perry, director of Hannah Gadsby's Emmy-award winning Netlix special Nanette, will undertake a six-month residency in Los Angeles with a soon to be launched production company from an Academy Award, DGA, BAFTA and Golden Globe winning filmmaker. This hands-on placement will span the creative and development process as well as their production pipeline including on set shadowing.

One of 15 Enterprise Business Recipients, Closer Productions (Aftertaste, 52 Tuesdays, Animals) will be supported in expanding its capacity and undertaking marketing to enable this transition. Over the next two years, Closer plans to actively increase its scripted television presence and the scale and ambition of its feature slate.

Projector Films (Martha: a Picture Story and Barbecue) will also receive funding for a partnership with WA based Rush Films, allowing the two companies to leverage each other’s expertise, benefits of their track records and their pool of creatives and strategic relationships to move into premium international documentary production.

🎉 Congratulations to Sierra, Nara, Madeleine, Closer Productions and Projector Films! 🎉 Read more: https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au/sa/media-centre/news/2023/08-24-enterprise-funding-four-point-six-million

With The World Cup starting, we thought we’d share a little about upcoming documentary THE DEFENDERS currently wrapping post.

Directed by Closer’s Matthew Bate, edited by Bryan Mason and David Scarborough, with Mo-graphics from Raynor Pettge and Executive Produced by Rebecca Summerton in collaboration with Sweetshop & Green. The Defenders is the true story of how a former Australian football captain and a ragtag team of social media warriors, challenged two monarchies, a military junta and the world's richest and most influential sporting body FIFA, to rescue the life of a fellow player and save the soul of football.

With the current controversies around the World Cup - numerous claims of human rights abuses, allegations of bribery and Qatar’s position on LGBTQI+ rights - did they really save the soul of football?

Coming to screens in 2023! ⚽️
