Home for the next 5 days… 🌆

As a business owner it's taken me some time to truly embrace 'work-free' holidays and not feel guilty for it, but I've realised over the years that I'm a much better business owner because of it.

Stepping away allows me to reset, spend quality time with loved ones, and come back even more motivated and inspired with a renewed sense of creativity.

While I often find the prep work to make it possible, quite overwhelming, especially in my role of managing social media, it's so worth it once I switch off. 🙌🏼

So i'll see you on the other side of this short break! 😉

There’s been a shift lately…

At the start of every month, you’ll find me sitting in front of my laptop screen, reporting and analysing results of client’s social media page performance for the month just passed. 📈

Since the start of 2024, I have noticed a shift across the board in perhaps what you would call “normal” results.

👀 I have noticed that there has been a significant increase in the number of people that posts are reaching, as opposed to engagement.

This shows us that people are consuming now more than ever.

Social media posts, my own included, are being seen by hundreds of non-followers who are finding the content through their recommended feeds or hashtags — and yes, hashtags still work! ✔️

The algorithms are changing, the people are changing. I have even noticed from a consumer perspective that I am consuming more too.

✍🏼 So this is your reminder, that posting something is better than nothing, and to not be deflated if you don’t get the engagement you perhaps hoped for.

People are watching, people are seeing. Keep going!

After successfully onboarding a new social media management client this week, I am proud to announce that for the time being, I am booked out for social media management... 🤗

What began in 2020 as a dream to expand my business and create a “social media empire” has evolved back into more of a fulfilling side hustle over the last year or so, and I have begun to realise that is okay too!

Now with a smaller group of long-term clients, I am able to balance and manage my workload while still enjoying the freedom to pursue my passions and work part-time in a fulfilling role. 🙌🏼

Though for the time being I am no longer taking on new social media management clients, I will continue to share social media tips and my business journey.

Towards the end of last year, I achieved a significant milestone by sending out my 400th invoice! ✍🏼

It may seem like a small achievement to some, but for me, it was a chance to reflect on the many different businesses I have had the privilege of working alongside, and the hours of work I have put in over the years.

🥳 A few days ago, I followed this up by celebrating 4 years of Found Social Media. This last year has been one filled with many ups and downs, making this business birthday particularly special.

Thank you for being a part of my journey, especially to those who have trusted me with their social media over the last four years, whether for a short or long period of time! 🤍

A year ago, I received news that would completely change the course of my year in business. 👇🏼

I learned that another client was ceasing work with me – making them the fifth one to do so in the space of a month.

Although these departures were not due to any fault of mine, but rather circumstantial changes in their own businesses, at the time it was still devastating.

Upon reflection over the last year, there have been many moments, including this week, where I have sat back and realised that losing these clients, all at once, was such a blessing in disguise.

In fact, I think it needed to happen! 🫣

Why? Because it gave me the opportunity to acknowledge the burnout I was experiencing from juggling so many clients, and made me realise that I had lost my passion for the work I was doing each day!

It gave me the space I needed, to make necessary changes, to make space for more aligned clients and begin to re-build my business to actually enjoy what I do! 🙌🏼

To be honest, if you had asked me 18 months ago if I would be where I am today, I would probably have said it was so far from where I thought I would be, but now I realise it's right where I am meant to be.

I hope that this is a reminder that when everything seems to be falling apart, it doesn't signify the end, but rather an opportunity for growth, resilience and maybe something even better than you thought. 🤍

It’s finally time to kick off here for 2024! 🥳

Each year I love to take the time to reflect and look on back all that happened over the course of the last year! I find it helps to remind me of how far I have come and gets me excited for what is ahead.

So for me in 2023? 🤷🏼‍♀️

✨I celebrated 3 years of business – a milestone I am SO proud to have reached
✨I started the year by losing a number of clients, followed by some beautiful clients coming into my space
✨I implemented sustainable practices to help manage my business
✨I took on a wonderful part time job
✨I learnt a lot about myself, my goals, my dreams and my visions for life and business

It was a year where there was lots of big changes, and things going on behind the scenes, but it was also a year I look back on with so much gratefulness and positive memories.

I’m looking forward to what 2024 has to bring, and if January is anything to go by, it’s looking like a good one! 🕺

Over the last few years I have realised something… 💭

💥 Success looks different for everyone.

When I first started my business, I always thought that I needed to continuously focus on scaling up, getting bigger and bigger, eventually hiring staff in order to “succeed” at business ownership.

The idea of this completely overwhelmed me, but I kept working at it knowing that I wanted to succeed.

I kept going until I couldn’t.

The busier I got, the more I realised how unhappy I was feeling, and how much I was falling into this idea of “hustle” culture. 😅

You see for some, success is defined by monetary value or working so many hours or in employing people to help expand your business offerings.

For others, a simple life with a job you love, travelling the world, making memories, having time for your loved ones and doing your own thing is success. 🤳

Right now, I love the fact that i’m running this business on my own with a manageable client base, allowing me to provide high quality service all while working smarter, not harder.

Despite what the world tell us, everyone gets to define their own version of success and discover what that means to them. 🤍

I have always been an avid watcher of The Block and as the new season recently started, it got me thinking... 🤔

Perhaps you've never seen something like this before and have no idea what it is, or maybe you are so sick of these that you've scrolled right past.

This is a post that I did on the new social media app "Threads" which launched just over one month ago and had over 30 million downloads within 16 hours. 🤯⚡️

Threads is an app that offers people the ability to start conversation threads with images, text and videos and then interact with others “threads” through replies, reposts and likes. 💭

While Threads may have lost its initial hype over the last few weeks, I do think there are a wide range of things that we can learn from this app, to implement into our other social media platforms. 💻

As I was creating my content for the month, I knew exactly the sort of post I wanted to upload today. ✨

When it came to writing the caption, I got in my head, started to overthink and question my idea, finding myself sitting there staring at a blank screen. 💻

I left it for a couple days and still I came up dry, and if you must know, I now find myself writing this an hour before it goes live. 😅

Perhaps you've felt like this when it comes to your social media content? Unfortunately, it happens to the best of us, no matter how hard we try to have it all organised.

So this is your reminder to stop overthinking your content – trying to make the perfect post – but simply get something out there or you never will. 🤳🌷

How often do you take time out for yourself as a business owner? 🪫

Let’s be honest, for most of us it’s usually not very often. There is always something to be done, something to work on or someone that needs an answer.

But let me just remind you that the less you put yourself first, the harder it is to show up and give 110% to your work, which can lead you to resenting it and falling out of love with the business that you have worked hard to build.

Prioritising myself and the things that fill up my cup, helps me to manage my business better, avoid burnout, invites room for creativity, provides me with more motivation for the work that I am doing and all of these things as a result help me to provide my clients with a better service. ✨

Whether it’s a few minutes to read a book, watch a movie, spend time with your loved ones or spend time in nature, whatever it is that fills your cup – make sure to do this, and do it regularly.

It's that time of year again... ⏰

The time to reflect, re-align and revisit where you've been and where you are going.

I am the kind of person who is highly organised and ambitious, always setting goals for myself and holding myself to achieving them. 📝✔️

With this in mind, looking back at some of the business goals I set for myself back in January, I was somewhat surprised to see that most of them had been achieved within only 6 months!

I put this down to the number of small decisions that I have made each and every day - specifically working on my procrastination, time management and finding ways to re-ignite the love I have for my business. ⚡️

As we move into the second half of 2023 and the start of a new financial year, I will be continuing to explore what it means to implement more sustainable changes to my business, and how I can best help more business owners.

I'll also be giving myself the space and rest that I need with a few big personal changes coming over the next few months!

When I first started in business, I heard lots of people talking about taking a dedicated day to working on their business. 🗓

I always questioned how they found the time to make this work amongst the constant demands of owning a business and managing multiple clients. I tried my hardest, but would always find myself feeling guilty for taking time off and doing my own thing.

However, the further I have progressed in my business, the more I have realised how much more both myself and my business can THRIVE when I do intentionally take these days to reset.

As a result of this, I have learnt to move past the guilt, realising that these days help me to assist my clients even more, and instead prioritise taking weekly CEO or “growth” days. 🌷💻

These days provide a space for me to reset, re-align and refocus on my business, instead of hyper-fixating on my clients.

Whether I am creating social media content for my pages, working on miscellaneous admin tasks or brainstorming future ideas, they are a day for me to rediscover and remind myself of the reason why I do what I do.

A day for me to fill up my cup, sometimes doing things that have nothing to do with my business, but simply bring me joy. ✨

Ever notice that when you visit a website on your phone, it looks different than when you viewed it on a laptop or computer? 💻

👉🏼 This is because the website has been OPTIMISED to still look good and provide value across both mobile devices and computers.

You might be thinking, well what does this have to do with social media? Well, we have to optimise our social media content for each platform that we use and the users on there.

Each social media platform, whether that be Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Youtube or whatever else, all work slightly different. If they all worked the same, we wouldn't need so many! 😅

For example, links in captions work well on Facebook, but they aren’t clickable on Instagram, therefore not very useful. Same as hashtags, they are great on TikTok and Instagram but not the best for Facebook. Carousel graphics often don't display well on Facebook, but on Instagram they are fantastic.

While it’s great that these apps give you the ability to crosspost across to each, it’s important to also think about the way that your content is displayed across each
platform, not only the one you created it for. 💥

Let me let you in on a secret…

💥 People aren’t following you on social media to BUY your services.

If people simply wanted to purchase from you, they would have done that already. They follow you on social media for the extension of the customer experience. To learn about WHO you are, WHY you do what you do and HOW your service can help them. ✔️

This is why influencer marketing works so well, because audiences get to know the person who is building a personal brand and therefore trust their opinion when it comes to products or services they have tried and tested.

In response to this 👉🏼 we recommend minimising the amount of promotional content that you put out there, focusing more on building connections with your community.

By educating, inspiring and sharing with your audience you will help them to feel like they can trust you as a business owner and help them to decide whether or not your business aligns with their values and beliefs.

In a recent conversation with a prospective client, I was asked why I chose to call this business, Found Social Media. 👩🏼⚡️

My response was pretty simple; I want to help businesses to be FOUND on social media.

Many businesses have social media accounts, but for most people the limited time, knowledge or desire to invest in their social media means that they aren't growing or being seen by their target audience. 👀

Have you ever felt like you have to post a certain type of thing on social media because everyone else in your industry or circle of influence is? 🫣

For me, it has always been social media tips. I felt that as a social media manager, it was my duty to share my knowledge with my audience.

What I have come to realise is that 95% of people in this line of work are doing this. There is so much free information out there, it's oversaturated. 😅

Over the last 3 months I have stepped away from posting so many generic tips and tricks, instead focusing on sharing more about business ownership, routines and things I have learnt. 👩🏼💻

Once you start creating content that is strongly aligned with you, it becomes much more enjoyable for you as the creator and your audience can see your passion and personality behind it, making them more inclined to engage. ⚡️

I think that 2023 should be the year of stepping outside the "norm" and posting the content that best reflects YOU and your business. After all, it is your uniqueness that will stand out to your potential customers. 😉

Whether it's weekly, fortnightly or even monthly you would use this time to:

📸 Create the content
✔️ Schedule it to automatically upload using a tool like Meta Business Suite (Free).

Doing these things regularly will help you to feel less overwhelmed and on top of your social media. 🙌🏼
