Alma Deutscher, born 2005, began playing the piano at the age of two and the violin at the age of three. At the age of six she composed her first piano sonata, a year later she wrote the short opera "The Sweeper of Dreams". Deutscher's first major opera "Cinderella" was performed in Vienna in 2016 under the patronage of Zubin Mehta, and was received with enthusiasm by the public and the critics.

Articles and reviews about Alma Deutscher and her music have appeared in the national feuilletons, from the "New York Times" to "China Daily" to most major newspapers in Europe. Numerous TV stations around the world have featured programs about her. Alma Deutscher was awarded the European Culture Prize Ta**us at the Vienna State Opera in 2019.

"Solace was composed at the request of Maestro Gerard Schwarz in the summer of 2022 while I was in Basel, Switzerland. As I was composing, every noon, bells would ring out from the nearby churches. These seemed to capture two strong feelings I was having at the time: Celebratory and more importantly, a feeling of Solace. One reason the bells brought about a feeling of solace was that I was aware that people all over that area, France, Switzerland and Germany were hearing the same thing I was AND people for centuries have been hearing those bells. This sense of time was different than what I normally experience living in Miami.." - Composer Charles Mason

In the early part of his career, our composer Drake Mabry pursued a traditional classical music career performing as first oboe with symphony orchestras in three countries. He then switched to tenor saxophone, flute, and clarinet, playing primarily in jazz big bands and small ensembles. From 1976 he continued his educational studies with Master and Doctoral degrees in music composition. His alma maters include the Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard, Rice University, and the University of California, San Diego. The principal teachers with whom he worked include Harold Gomberg, Alfred Genovese, Paul Cooper, John Cage, and Krzysztof Penderecki.

Martina Forni: Ma Mère l'Oye - Maurice Ravel

Martina Forni on her arrangement: "What can be nicer than becoming a child again while listening to Ravel’s ‘Ma Mère l’Oye’? The fairy tale atmosphere is palpable through the whole piece. The music evokes each single character and the enchanting nature that surrounds them. When arranging it for harp quintet I had in my hands both the original piano-duo score and the colourful orchestral version. The quintet has plenty of possibilities in its palette: the simplicity of the chamber music setting, but also a great range of dynamics and effects which we would expect from a much larger ensemble."

Yi-Ning Lo, currently based in Rochester New York, is a composer, pianist, and educator from Taiwan. Over the course of her artistic journey, she has drawn abundant inspiration for both vocal and instrumental compositions from a rich tapestry of literature, encompassing Western poems, Taiwanese folk tunes, ancient Chinese poetry, and Japanese haiku. In her compositional journey, Lo takes particular joy in exploring themes related to womanhood, dreams, and memory, infusing her compositions with a profound sense of emotion and storytelling.

"52 Blue is said to be the loneliest whale in the world. The music is about loneliness. The story of 52 Blue is used as a metaphor or symbol of being alone but in a positive way. Throughout the piece, the performer freely explores and interacts with oceanic soundscapes accompanied by rich synthesized materials; eventually, they experience a process of self-discovery."

"Philipp Ortmeier is an award-winning composer of sacred and secular music for choir, orchestra and chamber music. As a graduate of a musical high school with the instruments piano, violoncello and percussion, he received a sound musical education at an early age. This was followed by studies in musicology in Würzburg, Vienna, Padua and Krakow, which he successfully completed with a doctorate in 2010. To date, he has composed around 90 works for various instrumentations, ranging from solo and chamber music, orchestral and choral works to stage and film music."

Láchesis, Klothó, Átropos - an die Schicksalsgöttinnen by Konstantia Gourzi was commissioned by the Salzburg Bachchor for a concert in their own concert series "Chorage", which is dedicated to fate. "I find it more interesting and necessary than ever to deal with the subject of fate today. Asking the question of whether we are powerless in the face of our fate or whether we can determine our own destiny and seeking the answer through music made me curious and at the same time grateful and happy about this task."
