The Open Call for the C/O Berlin Talent Award 2023 in category 'Theorist’ starts on April 1, 2023! ☺️
The C/O Berlin Talent Award is the only prize of its kind in Europe. It recognizes outstanding work in both photographic practice and theory. The task of the ‘Theorist’ is to write an essay on the selected artwork and to conduct an interview with the ‘Artist’, both which will appear in a publication. The winning project of the C/O Berlin Talent Award 2023 in the ‘Artist’ category can be located in the field of artistic research and visual archives and deals with the themes of anthropology and sociality as well as the relationship between human and nature.

Video works by Ukrainian artists give the EYE/VIEW cycle a new reinterpretation. The experiences of observing or being observed that are depicted in the videos now seem like a prediction of the war.
In view of the war, the annual curatorial concept of Eye/View acquired a highly-topical dimension: observing and being observed became situations that now affect everyone to an extraordinary degree. We made this threat more visible in the second part of the cycle. The video works by Yana Bachynska, Sergey Bratkov, Marina Dykukha, Olia Fedorova, Alina Kleytman, Maksym Khodak and Mykola Ridnyi have proven to be a prediction of war and testify to a life in fear and danger. The gaze regimes that are revealed in the videos revolve around: following, monitoring, focusing, remembering and the unexpected breaking out of the blue.

+++ Open Call: C/O Berlin Talent Award – Theorist +++
The call for entries in the category “Theorist” is open to photo theorists up to 35 years of age. They can apply with two already published text samples. The main theme is New Documentary Strategies.
The winning project in the “Artist” category uses anti-aesthetics, experimentation and play to investigate rigid educational systems. The winner will then write an essay on the selected work and conduct an interview with the artist. Both will be published in an accompanying publication by Spector Books Verlag.
The prize is endowed with 3,000 EUR.

Die Internationale Photoszene Köln hat auch in diesem Jahr wieder ein vielfältiges und kreatives Programm aufgestellt – durch die pandemiebedingte Situation wird 2021 natürlich alles etwas anders ablaufen als zuvor:
Aus Photoszene-Festival wird ‚Photoszene United‘. Aus 10 Tagen im Mai wird ein ganzer Fotosommer voller Kunst, Ausstellungen und Gespräche. Das Motto in diesem Jahr: ‚hybrid, digital, & analog‘.
Photoszene United startet am 21.05 mit einem Kick-Off – bis zum 30.05. folgen u.a. ein Symposium im Rahmen des ‚Artist meets Archive‘-Projekts, unterschiedlichste Talks, Ausstellungseröffnungen, ein Panel zum Thema Klimawandel und ein breit aufgestelltes digitales Programm – es wird sogar eine Bar geben, seid gespannt!
Darüber hinaus veranstaltet die Photoszene 2021 in Kooperation mit dem Deutschen Kinder- und Jugendfilmzentrum (KJF), dem jfc Medienzentrum und der SK Stiftung Kultur das NEXT! Festival der Jungen Photoszene. NEXT! richtet sich insbesondere an junge Fotograf:innen, die erste Erfahrungen sammeln und sich mit dem Medium Fotografie beschäftigen.
