Earthy military inspiration

I have grown into a big fan of milsurp and military inspired garments - especially vintage military items though. Such as this 1941 coat. Unfits still in great condition - probably dead stock - however unfortunately it is missing the belt in the back.

Nevertheless it’s a cool feeling to be part of its history.

Just the vest

Used as a layer underneath a jacket by most -law eater vest for me a also a great stand alone item to wear. Especially when you go for a more relaxed look.

Here I paired my lambs wool vest with a tweed tie and denim shirt as well as the most basic trousers one can own - charcoal grey woolen trousers. A true workhorse in my wardrobe.

A blue affair

I recently picked up this beautiful light blue jacket cashmere herringbone jacket over Vinted. And I thought for its premiere I’ll go with a monochromatic look in blue with navy Italian Air Force trousers and a navy mock neck.

With the dark base the stage is set for the jacket to be the star that it is.

The Winter Pilot

If you ask me there’s few garments that are cooler than a leather jacket. This one is a recreation of the classic A2 flight jacket. So naturally I had to pair it with aviation inspired glasses and my 1941 watch cap (hand knit by me)

The rest of the combo is a tonal pairing in brown with a pique shirt, fair isle knit and flannel trousers - oh and let’s not forget the camel hair scarf to keep me warm.

The beard is gone - long live the beard

Well if you’ve followed me along for the last couple days you will have noticed it. The beard is gone and reduced to stubble - save the mustache which remained in its full glory.

This was quite a step for me as it has been nearly 13 years since I last saw my chin without beard and I didn’t like it then.

Now, after a couple of days getting used to it I kinda like the new look. Guess I might keep it for a while. And if not - the hair will grow back.

Are you set with your hair/beard style? Or do you change it up from time to time? Let me know in the comments.

Suits - boring? As if…

Even though you see me wear other fits than a suit more often than not suits will never get boring to me. And why you ask? Well first off it is to me the most basic way to dress: matching g jacket and trousers. BOOM don’t have to think an out color combo there it’s all done for ya.

Second there are sheer endless combination possibilities with shirts and ties and other accessories. You can always play around trying different combos - a different shirt or tie can make quite the difference to the suit.

And there’s more - add shoes, layering and even knitwear to the mix.

Long caption short: the suit is a great outfit base that can be played around with in endless ways. Suits won’t ever be boring - unless you make them so 🙌

Without trying there’s standstill

Low contrast top pairing with a suede jacket as layer, bold plaid trousers to go with it. Yes, that’s what I would call an experimental look, at least for me.

And that’s exactly where the fun in fashion is for me. Trying new stuff seeing what I like and dislike, be bold.

Why am I telling you this? To encourage to continuously step out of your comfort zone or just wear the stuff you feel happy with.

Casual corduroy

Today a very short caption as I’m caught a cold and am not feeling that well.

Still wanted to share the pictures of this look - a beige and green affair with a corduroy suit, a merino crewneck and silk neckerchief.

A brown affair and a navy intruder

There are three main alternatives to a dress shirt for me - a crewneck, a turtleneck or a polo shirt. While the turtleneck is in my opinion the classiest one the crewneck and polnischer are more casual and/or sportive. Perfectly fitting for a relaxed evening out or the weekend.

This navy Poloshirt marks new territory for me as it is equipped with a zipper rather than buttons making it even more sportive - however the knit nature and ribbed pattern make it stand up to the tailored jacket and trousers without looking mismatched imho.

Let me know what you think of zipper polos in the comments?

Casual suiting

Wait what did he say? Suit? Casual?

Oh yes, suits aren’t necessarily formal wear. Well more formal than let’s say jeans )or the unthinkable - sweat pants) but there is a scale within suit formality as well.

This one here is a taupe/light brown glen check suit with a flannel like texture - perfect for fall/winter. And inspired it with s***f suede shoes to pick up the more relaxed/casual vibe. A color that is mirrored as well in the vintage paisley tie and the leather gloves.

Save this for future reference and follow for more style inspo.

2 casual outfit ideas to up your game

First and foremost - between a t-shirt and a dress shirt (which both would work in this outfit) lies the polo shirt. At best a knit version - especially in fall/winter you can go for a nice woolen knit here.

It’s a step up from the regular crewneck T-shirt by adding a collar but not too much as a dress shirt - think of it as laid back but not too laid back.

Second: add a bandana or neckerchief to fill that collar. It’s a little detail that can show additional sophistication and again is a more casual alternative to the necktie but also a step up to no neckwear at all. It surely isn’t everybody’s cup of tea and can come off a bit more rakish. However, give it a try on me day and see if you like it. Plus for fall/winter: it keeps your neck warm and cozy.

What goes around comes around

In yesterdays reel I talked about what to do with your clothes instead of throwing them in the bin - if you haven’t seen it go check it out.

Now let’s see the other side. This outfit is (almost) entirely made out of pre-owned garments. Only thing that was „new“ are the shoes and not visible items. The shoes however have been with me for the better part of 6 years I reckon. Not too old but almost good as new.

The need for tweed

Actually double the tweed - with temps close to 0C in the morning it is time to whip out the heavy goods.

Hence, the season debut for my speckled herringbone tweed coat - a vintage find from a year or two ago. This coat plays all tricks - raglan shoulders, double breasted buttoning and a belt.

Under neath that coat hides a burgundy checked tweed jacket pair with a with OCBD shirt, a brown sleeveless pullover and grey flannel trousers.

Cream of the crop

Talking about denim - one of my wardrobe staples and this comes with the highest suggestions you’d buy a pair as well, are my off-white/cream/ecru denim jeans.

The high rise and full cut make them versatile and let me wear them full on casual or a bit more elevated like jere with a jacket and shirt.

What’s your favorite denim color? Let me know in the comments.

Over or under?

There can be great discussions held about how to wear suspenders I reckon. With shirts and jackets it’s fairly simple - suspenders go over the shirt and under the jacket.

But how about knitwear? I personally prefer wearing them over knots such as vests, crewnecks, rollnecks that are a substitute for shirts. However under cardigans - which kind of are an additional layer or substitute for a jacket.

Assuming you are wearing suspender/braces on a regular basis - do you wear them over or under a rollneck or crewneck?

The cappuccino of outfits

A mix of cream, beige and brown for a tonal autumn outfit that brings it all. Texture, pattern, layers you name it.

Shirt and loafers are however breaking the tonality to add more interest and contrast.
