[FIXTURE] Round 5 begins today!

No real derby this weekend, but the best match, by far is going to be the last of the 5th Round, when Rijeka welcomes Dinamo. Hajduk welcomes Osijek, a team still to find a victory.

[STANDINGS] Dinamo remains on the run, closely followed by Rijeka and Šibenik.

• The top 3 managed to defeat their rivals, with Đalović’s boys disrupted Osijek and Šibenik, Kranjčevićeva.
• Hajduk couldn’t recover from Istra’s early goal and returns to Split with a bad result.
• Varaždin held Slaven and wins the First Northern Derby of the season.

Round 5 will be the last before the first International Break of the season! We start once again on Friday, to end on Sunday:

[FIXTURE] Another Derby is upon us, Dinamo can hold the double front?

First of all, I’m sorry for not being able to do my job here in Prva Liga News. My full time job requests so much from me, I’m stressed, I’m tired, and when I end my work day I just want to stay away from the computer. Anyway, I hope that all of you can understand, and let’s get back to our beloved HNL.

• The 4th Round started yesterday with another (not surprising) win for Šibenik against and weird Lokomotiva that even with 13 corner kicks couldn’t menace Đaković. The Narančasti are on fire! And their goal was scored by net debutant Leonard Žuta.
• Today we start with another edition of the beautiful Northern Derby between Slaven and Varaždin. Anđelko Herjavec must hold against a rival lacking strength while playing away.
• Co-leader Dinamo welcomes Gorica while thinking on next Wednesday key match against Qarabag. Should the Plavi start with a mix of starters and substitutes to reach Azerbaijan with a fresh attitude? Or the Goričani will demand full attention from Jakirović?
• While today we have a Derby and the leaders, Sunday looks to be the best day of the weekend. An injured Istra receive Hajduk in P**a. The Zeleno-Žuti must recover from a horrible performance last weekend and we can’t expect much against another team looking to improve like Hajduk.
• Rijeka must be clinical. Fight against Osijek on Sunday and deliver the killer blow to Olimpija on Thursday. There is no more time to speculate.

[STANDINGS] While thinking in Qarabag, Dinamo retains the lead of the league.

• We expected a harder win for the Plavi against Šibenik, but the champions demonstrated why they are the best. Rijeka demolished Istra in another Derby della Učka while Hajduk made a good turnaround to beat Varaždin at home.
• The Osiječanin suffered another late goal to concede 2 points in Velika Gorica and Slaven and Lokomotiva gave us a good Saturday Football night at Kušek Apaš.

Round 4 begins on Saturday, to end on Sunday with these matches on mind:

[FIXTURE] After a pathetic European Thursday, a Derby and Dinamo fulfill our views.

• Dinamo and Šibenik must open the weekend as the Plavi must think on qualifying for the new UEFA Champions League! The Narančasti want to disrupt their energies and charge alone the league on 1st position.
• A single match, surely for the last time this year, completes Saturday. Slaven, weakened from 2 consecutive blows, starts their home campaign in Koprivnica against Lokomotiva. The Lokosi drew with Hajduk with a late penalty and their score their first point.
• All 3 disappointers on Europe play on Sunday. What do we expect? Angry fans for sure, but we can at least rely on the Derby Della Učka! Istra wants to press hard on the injury, while Rijeka desperately needs the win, thinking on Olimpija next Thursday.

[STANDINGS] A ferocious Round 2 leaves us with an unexpected leader.

• Dinamo and recently promoted Šibenik are the only clubs to have won both of their games and are righteously the leaders of the HNL.
• Both Hajduk and Rijeka couldn’t escape from the draws and sit 2 points below them.
• After a disastrous start, the Zeleno-Žuti fought for the lasagna and left the relegation.
• Osijek and Slaven are the only teams to not earn a point so far.

[REVIEW] Šibenik beat Slaven and broke a longtime record.

• The Narančasti defeated 2-0 the Farmaceuti and plumed the Koprivnica side into despair after their second consecutive loss. With this victory, Šibenik won their first 2 matches for the first time since the 2000-01 season when their victims were Rijeka and Marsonia.
• Ivan Santini and Josip Majić scored both goals for the home side, with Josip assisting Ivan in the first one while Majić got a rebound from Čović to score the final goal.
• Đaković saved one shot from Ante Šuto as he was a handball keeper.
• The Farmaceuti needs to improve, and fast, if they want to leave relegation fight for another team. Right now they look dangerously bad.
• Šibenik is also the first team, since the 10 club system, that won their first 2 games as a promoted side in HNL.

[FIXTURE] Welcome to the new season of HNL!

While Dinamo defeats Istra at Maksimir, we have the debut of Šibenik in the top league of the country after playing in 1NL for one season.
Tomorrow Gorica welcomes Varaždin, both teams want to steal Lokomotiva’s place in the top 5 and a win could start that trend.
Super Packed-Sunday for us this weekend. Rijeka, Hajduk and Osijek must rest for their 3rd round qualifiers and all of them will play at their cities against Lokomotiva, Slaven and Šibenik!

[EUROPE] All 3 Croatian teams did their work and we have them all in 3rd Round!

Rijeka and Osijek defeated their rivals while Hajduk should have score some goals in the Faroe Islands but at least they went through thanks to the 2-0 from last week.
The club led by Italian Federico Coppitelli was the only one that won both matches, with Bili and Riječani winning at home and drawing away.
We must talk about the lack of goals scored while being away from the country with only 1 being scored by Osijek.

Now Rijeka must play against Elfsborg from Sweden, who defeated higher ranked Sheriff. Osijek plays against Zira from Azerbaijan, who defeated Slovaks DAC. Hajduk welcomes the Slovak side Ružomberok, who lost in Europa League against Trabzonspor from Türkiye.
All games will be played on the 8th and 15th of August, both on Thursday.

[ATEAM] This is it! We are minutes away from the beginning of another EURO for Croatia and these are the 26 players selected by Zlatko Dalić!

6 players (yes we are counting Labrović) will defend HNL for the Vatreni:

[ATEAM] Two Friendlies before EURO, two great wins to get hyped.

What a performance! Dalić’s boys firstly beat a reasonable squad like Macedonia in Rijeka only to travel to Lisboa and conquer Portugal for the first time ever. Are you not entertained?
In the first match, the Vatreni played a team that is menacing but at the same time, one that you could place a mix of subs and starters and still manage to win it. Macedonia came to Rijeka to poke around and they found a brace from Majer and the very first goal from Rujevica’s local hero Marco Pašalić.
Without Luka in the footballers’ sheet, Baturina replaced him in that spot and left good impressions, Perišić return to the Vatreni as Left Wing while Lovro was in the other side. Bruno and Andrej were the strikers with them intertwining and finding spaces.
It was nice to see faces we know so well in Macedonia like Trajkovski, Atanasov and Velkovski.

The final game was hard at first, but with a solid team, the Lusitanians almost lose by a larger margin.
Kovačić was thrown to the ground and Modrić scored the opener. A few minutes after Diogo Jota’s equalizer it was Budimir who celebrated the winner goal.
Dalić presented a more serious a robust team against Portugal. Gvardiol as Left Back, the 3 best midfielders of Croatia and Budimir helped by a now starter Majer with Kramarić on the other side. Pongračić and Šutalo in the defense. They looked a bit off after the home side equalizer but then started to be good again.

Croatia debuts against Spain next Saturday and will play Albania and Italy subsequently.

[1NL] Heartbreaking end of an excellent 1.NL season!

• In what was the final and last match of the season, Šibenik conquered Gradski Vrt and crushed Zrinski’s dream of playing HNL for the first time! The Narančasti returns to the top league after only one season in 1.NL.
• BSK did the unthinkable and saved themselves from the relegation playoff with their win 2-1 over Dugopolje. Pavlek’s 96th minute winner will be remembered for a long time.
• Orijent’s 7th undefeated match wasn’t enough to secure 10th place and a dull 0-0 labeled them in the playoffs.
• With a lot of love and proud, Vukovar destroyed Cibalia in Vinkovci 5-1 and finished in the podium once again.
• Solin couldn’t leave 1.NL with a win and suffered a serious 3-0 defeat against Dubrava, we will wait for you guys. Just don’t kill your club like Hrvatski Dragovoljac.
• Zmijavci needed a draw to avoid any possible trouble, so they obviously thrashed Sesvete 3-1 at home. Amazing seasons for the newcomers.

What a season for all the new teams in the league. Relegated Šibenik ended 1st while promoted Zrinski were leaders throughout most of the season and ended 2nd. Sesvete’s return also made them end 4th.

[1NL] The 2nd Division ends this weekend and here you have the standings!

Zrinski welcomes Šibenik in an all-in match that will decide whether the Osijek’s small village of Jurjevac will have its first representative in HNL.
In the lower part of the table, the relegation is still on despite Solin’s direct relegation. Orijent welcomes Jarun and a win will cancel all danger from BSK, they play at home against Dugopolje. The 11th team will play playoff relegation against 2.NL 2nd team (Kustošija, Radnik or Mladost Ždralovi).

[STANDINGS] Amazing end of season for HNL and now we wait for the Euro 2024.

[FIXTURE] The final round of this season is upon us.

• Gorica opens the weekend with a match against Istra. Both teams can be a place up if they win and Istra is searching being the best team of the lower table.
• Osijek has secured 4th place after an amazing win over Rijeka last week, and a safer team can play at Anđelko Herjavec against a side that must guard that good 6th place.
• In the same day, two clubs that had higher hopes for this tournament face each other. Lokomotiva welcomes Hajduk at Kranjčevićeva for a final showdown of disappointing endings as the Lokosi won’t be able to play Conference League and the Bili failed to remain on top of the standings.
• In the final day of the championship, runners up Rijeka has to face another disappointing side in the form of Slaven. The Farmaceuti struggled throughout the entire season and if it wasn’t for the horrible campaign made by Rudeš, they could be facing relegation for sure. The Riječani suffered another blow and they looked to have been on panic mode since that bad defeat against Lokomotiva in late April.
• The double champions Dinamo close the season against relegated Rudeš in what could be an explosive end. The Plavi showed the rest of the clubs how to be precise and how to maintain form even when 4 of your greatest players leave for transfers. Jakirović managed to be strong enough in the darkest hour and it pays pretty well in my book. Rudeš, what can I say? I feel that you could had a better season and it hurts to think back and find that 4-3 against Osijek being 3-0 up. Hope you can return as quick as possible!

[CROATIACUP] Dinamo are the new champions of Croatia!

• With an amazing late First Half, the Plavi flooded Rujevica with 2 goals that settle the match. In the end of the cup, both home and away teams netted 1 goal, thus the final result was 1-3 for the Plavi.
• Petar Sučić, Martin Baturina and Marko Bulat were the scorers for Dinamo, while Toni Fruk celebrated with a beautiful free kick. Arber Hoxha assisted in the first two goals while Petkovic made a gorchous through pass in the final goal.
• Rijeka had many chances in the first 30 minutes, but Nevistić was on fire and the cup went to Zagreb.

DINAMO ARE THE 33RD CHAMPIONS OF CROATIA! And they earn their 17th Rabuzinovo Sunce.

[1NL] Championship fight? Noted. Relegation fight? Noted. What else you want?

• A new weekend of Second Division football is ahead of us and here you can see that both Zrinski and Šibenik are on track for a final showdown where their head-2-head will be the final decision of the championship.
• In the lower part of the table, Solin is still alive after an incredible draw against Orijent. BSK are struggling also after their catastrophic defeat 4-0 against Dubrava. But they can also get away from everything if they surpass Orijent in the standings.
• Sesvete, Jarun, Cibalia, Dugopolje and Dubrava can all finish 4th if they encounter all the points they need.

Round 32 starts today with Sesvete - Cibalia and continues as follow:

[STANDINGS] The fight for the final European spot has been decided.

• Osijek marvelously defeated Rijeka and as Lokomotiva drew with Rudeš, with only 3 points in game and the Head-2-Head record in favor for the Osiječanin, Zoran Zekić qualified for the 2nd Qualifying Round of the 2024-25 UEFA Conference League.
• Istra is on fire! And they will now fight with Varaždin for the 6th place.

[1NL] By the way they are playing, the promotion will remain uncertain until the end.

• Zrinski defeated Jarun in an epic match to win 2-1 in Zagreb while Šibenik destroyed Sesvete 4-0 also in the country’s capital.
• Vukovar returned to the winning side with a powerful 3-1 over Dubrava and Cibalia surpassed Dugopolje as they won at Hrvatski Vitezovi 2-1.
• After 4 dramatic defeats, Solin managed to save themselves from imminent relegation and beat Croatia 4-0. Orijent and BSK couldn’t break even and ended 0-0.

[STANDINGS] DINAMO ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF HNL!

• After an entertaining and dramatic end of the league, the Plavi triumph over Rijeka and Hajduk to earn their 25th Croatian League and 34th if you count those while in Yugoslavia.
• Rijeka’s 3rd consecutive loss gave the chance for Dinamo to defeat Osijek and be crown once again.
• Lokomotiva took advantage of Osijek’s loss and is now 1 point away from reaching Conference League!

[FIXTURE] The 34th Round has started, and Dinamo can become champions.

• Already started, Gorica welcomes relegated Rudeš. The home side hasn’t won in Velika Gorica in a long time, having lost all 3 last matches. The Rudeši are just trying to win their 2nd match of the season, something that they should achieve.
• Saturday will be the key day as Varaždin welcomes Rijeka and Dinamo does it with Osijek. If the Riječani doesn’t win and Dinamo does, the Plavi will become champions of the HNL season 2023/24.
• We close the weekend with Slaven traveling to Kranjčevićeva and Istra receiving Hajduk at Aldo Drosina.

[STANDINGS] Dinamo holds the lead and moves 4 points over Rijeka.

• In a dramatic ending, Dinamo defeats Rijeka 2-1 at Rujevica and starts moving towards silverware.
• Osijek does the same against Lokomotiva and has a 4 points margin in the fight for Europa Conference League football.
• Istra did it again! And now they climbed over Gorica to reach 7th place.

[RESULTS] Round 32 gave us one of the most unthinkable results of the season, which was your favorite game of last weekend?

• The main dish of the 32nd Round was no other than Lokomotiva’s incredible 3-1 win over Rijeka at Kranjčevićeva. The Lokosi’s fight for Conference League intertwined with Rijeka’s ambition and Čabraja’s men took all points after the goals of Mudražija and Šotiček’s brace, Obregón helped Riječani, but it wasn’t enough.
• Istra opened the weekend with a marvelous 3-0 against Slaven, further showing the Farmaceuti’s fall this season. Filet and Ekong quick goals followed by Sušak’s own goal after Emmanuel’s shot in First Half made it impossible for the visiting side to climb back.
• Hajduk returned to the winning side after 3 consecutive defeats at Poljud, Rudeš continued with their horrible away season where they only scored 4 goals in 16 matches. The Bili were simply far better than Rudeši and Pukštas took advantage of their poor tactical defense to score a header brace, it was then time for Krovinović’s brace with 2 beautiful goals, to end with Kalinić’s 2nd goal of the season. Josip Brekalo helped his team with 2 assists.
• Gorica couldn’t stop an amazing Ramón Miérez and they lost 0-3 in Velika Gorica. 4th consecutive winless game for the Goričani while, after losing to Istra, the Osiječanin recovered. El Toro hit his 1st hat-trick of the season and keeps his place as the top scorer of the league.
• We end the list of games with the other hot plate of the weekend. Dinamo defeated Varaždin in a tight match, I can even say that it was a balanced one where both teams had chances to win it, but it was Vidović with an amazing goal, the only one to break Zelenika and he gave the Plavi the lead of the league, with only 4 weeks remaining!

[1NL] The leaders are unstoppable, while the fight to avoid relegation continues.

• Zrinski and Narančasti are on a terrific form and they are playing amazing, both with a relative young squad beat Solin (with in extremis goal) and Dugopolje (is this a derby?) to remain on top of everyone.
• Jarun held Vukovar in Zagreb while the weekly Zagreb Derby within Sesvete and Dubrava also ended on a tie.
• Both Orijent and BSK managed to win 3 HUGE points against Croatia and Cibalia respectably.

[STANDINGS] An unexpected loss gives Dinamo the lead with 4 Rounds remaining.

• Rijeka lost with Lokomotiva an incredible game and with Dinamo defeating Varaždin at Anđelko Herjavec, the Plavi take the lead of HNL with only 12 points in game left.
• Osijek’s win in Velika Gorica makes the fight for 4th place one to watch, while Hajduk won at Poljud against a week Rudeš.
• Istra won for the 2nd consecutive weekend, Slaven can’t recover.

Round 33 starts next Friday and ends on Sunday:

o Osijek – Lokomotiva

[1NL] These are the standings of the Second Division, as the 28th round begins.

• Zrinski and Šibenik continues their winning march, but their results are starting to be more difficult to achieve. They defeated BSK (1-0) and Solin (2-1).
• Vukovar drew 1-1 with Dugopolje and Jarun recovered their 4th place from Sesvete winning the Zagreb Derby of the weekend in an amazing 3-2.
• Both last matches ended 1-1, as neither Dubrava – Croatia nor Cibalia – Orijent couldn’t break even.

[STANDINGS] Rijeka is being challenged by Dinamo, while Osijek and Lokomotiva fight for Europe.

Rijeka holds the lead, 2 points above Dinamo, while Osijek and Lokomotiva fight for Europe and Varaždin remains hopeful as math is with them.

The 32nd Round begins tomorrow! The round ends on Sunday.

[GOALSCORERS] As the championship comes to the final rounds, El Toro remains the leader.

🥇🥈🥉 Ramón Miérez had a few drought rounds, but after scoring his 13th goal against Hajduk, keeps a good margin of 2 goals against Fran Brodić (the only 2 club scorer) and 3 versus Bruno Petković.
🔟 Marko Livaja fell off the podium and now ties with the Vatreni striker but loses due to minutes played for the Bili.
8️⃣ Despite not scoring since the beginning of February, Benedik Mioč holds his 5th place in the table with 8 goals.
7️⃣ Mijo Caktaš stays as the leader of the 7-goal players, supporting Kristijan Lovrić, Duje Cop (who hasn’t score since March) and Niko Janković (since early February).
6️⃣ Gabriel Vidović, on loan at Dinamo, holds the throne of the 6 goals against scorers with the caliber as Štrkalj, Erceg, Tuci, Pašalić, Postonjski and Šotiček.

[1NL] An own-goal is enough to leave Zrinski ahead.

 After defeating Orijent in Rijeka by Tadejević’s own-goal, the Osijek based team holds those 2 big points that separates them with Šibenik. The Narančasti wiped BSK at their home 3-1.
 Vukovar is a real 3rd place team, not enough to be a title challenger, but good enough to remain undefeated for 6 games and only a loss in 13 matches; they won in Solin 1-0. Sesvete reclaimed their 4th place after beating Dugopolje 3-1 away.
 Jarun couldn’t beat Dubrava in another Zagreb Derby which ended 1-0 for the away side. Croatia finally won after being winless for the last 7 matches, winning 2-0 against Cibalia.

Next round, the 27th will begin on Friday, expected to end on Sunday!
