🌎 UN Women has been implementing the Spotlight program in Argentina to support NGOs and other organizations dedicated to combating violence against women. Their mission is to place women’s rights at the center, with their stories driving the narrative and teaching us what needs to be done to address the judgments, misconceptions, and injustices they face every day.

🎥 The British creative agency Heehaw requested that we film a complete mini-documentary in Buenos Aires about a local NGO supporting women who have experienced violence. With our local crew, we constructed all the scenes and sequences and conducted the interviews following the style guide.

🎞️ E3: “The Power of Activism” features Maria Maldonado’s journey in Argentina, urging survivors to break the silence and join movements like . This episode highlights global activism, including movements in Liberia, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, and Mali, driving significant legal and policy changes to end violence against women.

📌 Presenter Nikki Bedi was joined on stage by Buenos Aires artists to explore the ‘Porteño’ identity of the city where inflation is soaring, tango is danced in the street and there are said to be more psychoanalysts per capita than any other city in the world.

There was live music from Dante Spinetta and Fémina, stand-up comedy from Ana Carolina and interviews and discussion with actress Delfina Chaves, filmmaker Benjamin Naishtat and the live audience.

The BBC will be in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday 21 November 2023 to record The Arts Hour on Tour.

🎤 Featuring live music from Dante Spinetta and Fémina, and stand-up comedy from Ana Carolina, the programme will include interviews and conversation in English with Buenos Aires creatives, including actress Delfina Chaves and film writer and director Benjamin Naishtat.

Recorded in English for BBC World Service radio, The Arts Hour on Tour visits cities all over the world to explore their hottest trends and issues, by talking to the artists who live and work there.

In the cultural melting pot of Buenos Aires, we’ll hear how leading Argentinian talents are dealing with waves of economic crisis and shaping the cultural future.nik
