A series of portraits created by Mitya in his studio for the new magazine .am

The result is an incredible set of photos featuring young people who are shaping modern and inspiring projects in Armenia today.

Close framing, lighting techniques, and, most importantly, our collaboration during the scanning process — this is the key part of the interaction between the lab and the photographer that significantly influences the final result.

Scanner: Hasselblad Flextight X5 (Imacon).
Camera: Contax 645 / 80mm 2.0.

Photos from the live performance by Tagran Hamasyan, captured by the Karmir team in support of the new album The Bird of a Thousand Voices.
The location chosen was a mountain lake near the peak of Aragats, the highest mountain in Armenia. Full videos and individual tracks will soon be available on Patreon. Tagran and his team have done a tremendous job and are eager to perform such concerts in Armenia as often as possible. We, in turn, hope that the videos will become an integral visual part of the unplugged version of the album tracks.
Stay tuned for announcements and support us with views and donations.

We just realized that we haven’t made a detailed post about Karmir 160 yet. Inside the cartridge, there’s Aerocolor 4 film, a fairly rare color film from Kodak. Many photo labs used to spool it, but Karmir has tried to do it as well as possible. It’s housed in new, specially manufactured metal cartridges with a DX code, which we decided to set at 160 ISO because the film performs best at this exposure, offering rich and contrasty results. The design was created by our good friend and very talented artist . The box features three characters we call the Armenian RGB guys. The film itself is perfect for everyday photography; it’s very colorful and sharp, forgiving of exposure errors, and responds well to push-pull processing. We recommend scanning it on a Fuji Frontier scanner, as it delivers more accurate results compared to Noritsu. What do you think of this film?

Footage from our 16mm ARRI video tests.

Every time we think about shooting on film, we try to answer the question of why again? Among the common reasons—the colors that are difficult for us to replicate, the certain experience you gain—there is something else we like. On the negative, you can directly see the imprint of reality. A trace of what exactly happened, which cannot be re-photographed in the same place, cannot be undone. Therefore, such a frame carries a different responsibility and a different feeling.

What do you think? How is it for you?

A photo shoot for the music album “How to Survive a Bad Trip”. The concept behind the shoot was to portray the life of an enigmatic cult with an odious leader, whose identity might not be as it appears.
The photos adopt a pseudo-documentary aesthetic, designed to emulate materials used for recruiting new cult members.

“Join our family, be happy forever!”

Here are some photos from the closing ceremony of AMADEE-24 Mars Simulation, which took place in the Ararat region of Armenia. Thanks to for providing a great opportunity to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere reminiscent of Carl Sagan's science fiction books and to give an impulse to the local science community. We were also amazed by how much the Armenian landscape resembles Mars.
