Baker Hughes and شركه دوسر الهندسية للتهويه Dussur, which is owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Aramco and SABIC, have inaugurated the Saudi Petrolite Chemicals facility, a chemicals manufacturing facility focused on providing oilfield, power generation and industrial chemicals in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The new facility will increase KSA’s supply base targets of raw materials such as solvents and glycols, as well as accelerate the development of manufacturing skills and capabilities of the local workforce with more than 70% Saudization.
“Today is a testament to Baker Hughes and Dussur’s continued efforts to drive in-country value to better serve the chemicals market in the Kingdom and across the region. Saudi Arabia’s decision to abandon the 13mn bpd maximum sustainable capacity target is astute, say Wood Mackenzie analysts.
“In recent years, Saudi Arabia’s production was being curtailed at varying levels since the pandemic. With the production agreement and voluntary cuts introduced in 2022-2023, the need to increase capacity was becoming less pressing,” said Ann Louise Hittle, Wood Mackenzie’s vice president of Oil Markets. “With spare capacity higher than usual and a persistent need to reduce production, this is an astute time to abandon the 13mn bpd capacity target.”
Alexandre Araman, principal analyst, Upstream for Wood Mackenzie, added that recent cost increases in the industry and pressure on prices are likely to have been a consideration as well.

2024 will be another rollercoaster year for the energy industry, raising important questions about whether Paris Agreement net-zero targets can be achieved, says Rystad Energy.
“Last year was a pivotal one for the energy world," said Rystad Energy CEO Jarand Rystad.

"Renewable energy capacity expanded rapidly, global coal demand most likely peaked in 2023, and clean energy technologies are now more affordable than fossil fuel alternatives in most parts of the world. Fossil fuels will, however, remain an important component of the energy mix for the next decades.
