Meet Therese Hasberg Avril, author of 'The Camel’s Dubai Adventure' .
This delightlful children's book tells the story of a camel who dreams of flying and a group of five friends who help him follow his dream. Their adventure takes them from the deserts to the cityscape. Therese lived and worked in the UAE from 2004—2017 as a teacher of English and Special Needs in High School.
Together with a friend, she established Dubai's first Danish School, which became the largest Danish school in the world, outside of Denmark. After working there for over ten years, in 2017, she relocated to Copenhagen, Denmark, her home country.
She currently lives there with her husband and two sons, for whom she first wrote this book.
She will be signing copies of her book at the Signing Corner in SIBF this Saturday. Don't miss it!

George Barnes published the first accurate navigational map of the Gulf (London, 1830). The names of the regions were also printed in Arabic.

"I utilise negative space frequently in my work. In a hostile environment like the Arabian Desert, very little grows, so negative space is abundant. Simplicity draws the eye to the main subject: this could be a tree, a road or a camel, providing the viewer with a sense of serenity and solitude. These are often emotions experienced when visiting the desert. This solitude provides an escape through the viewer’s imagination. For me, it is necessary to share the emotions the desert provides to convey the importance of protecting these stunning, majestic landforms."

In 2013, we were privileged to have collaborated with Land Rover to publish their stunning coffee-table book, 'BORN OF THE SAND'.
The book started off as a celebration of Land Rover’s long presence in the Middle East. Over the course of researching and writing, it became apparent that Land Rover is a brand that has become part of a common consciousness and a watchword for adventure.
Read this excerpt: "Head off into the wilds, or any corner of the globe and you will find people, either for work or play, pushing their Land Rovers to the very limit of what a car can do. You’ll find Land Rovers and Range Rovers up to their axles in mud and snow. You’ll find them inching inexorably up improbable inclines, cresting dunes and fording rivers. Sometimes they are standard cars, sometimes they are heavily modified specials built by passionate owners. We've just published the Arabic edition of 'Sons of Abraham', in which Rabbi Schneier and Imam Ali tell the story of how they became friends and offer a candid look at the theological and political issues that both unite and divide Jews and Muslims.
