International Olive Festival: A Leading Tourism and Economic Driver for the Kingdom

The 18th Al-Jouf International Olive Festival has solidified its position as a key tourism and economic event for both the Kingdom and the Al-Jouf region, attracting significant interest, visitors, tourists, and investment from domestic and international sources. The current festival, held at the Prince Abdullah Cultural Center in Sakaka from January 2 to 12, features local, regional, and international participants, including olive and oil producers, processing industries, companies, and agricultural associations.Al-Jouf is renowned as the Kingdom's "land of olives," home to the world’s largest olive farm --according to the Guinness World Records-- and boasting over 23 million trees. The ancient profession of coffee cultivation in Rijal Almaa Governorate has reemerged as a significant economic activity in the Aseer region, drawing the attention of local farmers who have revitalized historic farms known for coffee cultivation and marketing.

Chief Executive Officer Ali Abdullah Sayyad of the Rijal Almaa Coffee Cooperative Association highlighted that residents have redeveloped numerous old farms in recent years, incorporating modern cultivation techniques. The JV aims to automate rebar cage assembly through advanced robotic welding and tying techniques, enabling the assembly of large, pre-manufactured reinforcement cages. Aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals companies, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC), and Fujian Petrochemical Company Limited (FPCL) have today broken ground on a new integrated refining and petrochemical complex in Fujian Province, China.

The facility is planned to have a 16 million tons-per-year oil refining unit (320,000 barrels per day), a 1.5 million tons-per-year ethylene unit, a two million tons paraxylene and downstream derivatives capacity, and a 300,000 tons crude oil terminal. FPCL, a 50:50 joint venture between SINOPEC and Fujian Petrochemical Industrial Group Company, will own a 50% stake in the complex, with Aramco and SINOPEC each taking a 25% stake. The project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2030....
