An unforgettable visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, the largest orphanage for elephants in the world occupying 86 elephants.

It was established in 1975 to rescue and look after orphaned, abandoned, injured or displaced wild Asian elephants. Today it’s known for having one of the largest herds of captive elephants in the world and is a very popular stop for tourists visiting Sri Lanka

Country No. 3 Unlocked

As an Egyptian living and working in the UAE, I’m grateful for the chance to explore the world, and Sri Lanka came as my third destination on 28 November 2025. A trip I’ll never forget.

I arrived during the challenging days of the Ditwah Cyclone, a time when the country was hurting. But even in the middle of this hardship, Sri Lanka showed incredible strength, resilience, and beauty.

One of the highlights of my journey was visiting Pinnawala, a place where humans and elephants share a bond that’s truly heartwarming. Watching how these gentle giants are cared for since birth, loved, protected, and respected — touched my heart deeply.

Travel isn’t only about perfect moments. Sometimes it’s about witnessing a country’s spirit, standing with its people, and still finding beauty in unexpected challenges.

Sri Lanka… thank you for the memories, the lessons, and the warmth.
