Our Lady of Snows Shrine Basilica is located at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the Catholic pilgrimage centers in India dedicated to the Our Lady of Snows, a title given to Mother Mary. The Shrine name refers to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

✝️*The Passion of John the Baptist*✝️

The Passion, or Beheading, of Saint John the Baptist is one of the very oldest liturgical feasts on the Church’s calendar.
The Gospel account of the Baptist’s death is that the allegedly femme fatale who is provoked by her mother to make the gruesome request for John’s head, a request that leads to his ex*****on, is hardly the seductive siren of popular imagination. We are dealing with a child who is being manipulated. This child is learning early in life what we should desire and where our desires should take us. Not only does this detail make Herod’s delight at the girl’s dancing all the more disturbing, but it also illuminates just how insidious the corruption of Herod and his successors really was. The truncated relationship of Herod and Herodias is just the tip of the iceberg.

The story of the death of John the Baptist a kind of worst-case scenario in which the innocence of a child is used to advance the evil desires of adults—all leading to a fatal result. That this outcome was made possible not only through the machinations of men and women, but through the manipulation of a child makes it all the more memorable and terrifying.
Saint John the Baptist’s head was, indeed, the wage rendered by an older man for the satisfaction of watching a young girl dance at his birthday party.

John denounced King Herod Antipas, to his face, for divorcing his lawful wife and taking as his own Herodias, his sister-in-law, the wife of his still living half-brother Philip.

King Herod, surnamed Antipas, was a tetrarch—one of four rulers who co-governed ancient Palestine as client kings under the oversight of a Roman governor. Herod Antipas learned cruelty at home on his father’s knee. His father, Herod the Great, had two of his own sons strangled to death, murdered his favorite wife, and ordered the slaughter of all the male babies of Bethlehem.

Herod is to John the Baptist what Pilate is to Jesus. Neither Herod’s nor Pilate’s first choice was to order an ex*****on. But cowardice and fear coalesced until commanding the death of an innocent man was more expedient than braving the ridicule and threats of subordinates.

*John the Baptist died a martyr for marriage*
Divorce and remarriage, fornication, adultery, same-sex unions, po*******hy and artificial contraception – all these strike at the divinely intended identity of marriage. Our Catholic witness – as individuals and as a community – cannot be any less courageous than that of John the Baptist. Our Catholic voice cannot be any less loud and clear than the “voice of the one crying out in the wilderness.”
Following in the footsteps of John the Baptist means being willing to go through “The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner” by being misunderstood and rejected and even getting your head chopped off, at least figuratively. But for those who have the stamina, the ecstasy of victory prods one on past the agony of defeat, and all becomes worthwhile.

Thus died the great forerunner of our blessed Saviour, about two years and three months after his entrance upon his public ministry, about a year before the death of our blessed Redeemer.
Jesus grieved the death of John and took seriously the threat it posed for him. He withdrew with his disciples for a time to ponder its meaning and to find inspiration in John’s courage and faith. We are invited to do the same.🙏✝️🙏

Hai mai pregato Santa Teresa e ricevuto rose? L'ho fatto una volta.
Non avevo mai chiesto un segno di rose prima, ma una volta, dopo aver terminato una novena, dissi a Santa Teresa che avrebbe significato molto per me riceverle come segno che la mia richiesta di preghiera sarebbe stata accolta.

Ero seduto al tavolo della sala da pranzo con mio marito e gli ho detto che avevo recitato una novena a Santa Teresa e gli ho chiesto un segno. "Cosa intendi con un segno?" chiese.
In quel preciso istante la nostra giovane figlia Teresa, (dal nome della santa) che aveva circa cinque anni, mi interruppe per mostrarmi un'immagine di una ragazza che aveva disegnato. Ha spiegato tutto nel suo disegno. "Ecco le sue scarpe e guarda, ci sono delle rose sopra."
Sono rimasto stupito. La parola "rose" non era stata affatto menzionata da me. Per quanto ne so, Teresa non aveva mai disegnato un'immagine di rose prima. E proprio come avevo detto a mio marito che avevo chiesto un segno, eccolo lì.
"Ho appena ricevuto il mio segno", gli ho detto.
"Di cosa stai parlando?" chiese, ormai completamente confuso. Quindi, ho spiegato. Teresa sorrise felice quando si rese conto di quanto fossero diventate importanti le rose che aveva messo nel suo disegno.

Chi è Santa Teresa?
All'età di 14 anni, la vigilia di Natale del 1886, Therese ebbe una conversione che le cambiò la vita. A 15 anni divenne monaca contemplativa carmelitana in un convento di Lisieux, in Francia. Prese il nome religioso suor Teresa del Bambino Gesù e del Volto Santo.
Dopo una lunga malattia di tubercolosi, morì il 30 settembre 1897, all'età di 24 anni. Le sue ultime parole furono: "Mio Dio, ti amo!" La sua festa è il 1 ottobre. Fu canonizzata da papa Pio XI il 17 maggio 1925.
Therese è diventata famosa in tutto il mondo attraverso la sua autobiografia, Story of a Soul. La gente ha appreso della sua "piccola via" in cui ha vissuto ogni giorno con piena fiducia nell'amore di Dio. Ha spiegato che ciò che conta di più "non sono le grandi azioni, ma il grande amore".
Divenne nota come il "Piccolo fiore" perché amava i fiori e si considerava il "piccolo fiore di Gesù", tra tutti gli altri fiori nel giardino di Dio.
“La mia missione - far amare Dio - comincerà dopo la mia morte - scrive - Trascorrerò il mio cielo facendo del bene sulla terra. Lascerò cadere una pioggia di rose." Le persone spesso riferiscono di aver ricevuto rose dopo aver pregato Santa Teresa, specialmente dopo averle recitato una novena.
Petali di rosa miracolosi
L'anno scorso, mia sorella Colleen e la sua amica Debbie e io abbiamo visitato Canton, Ohio, casa di Madre Angelica e Rhoda Wise, la cui causa di canonizzazione è stata aperta. Abbiamo visitato il Santuario di Rhoda Wise come parte del tour di Madre Angelica e abbiamo visto uno dei petali di rosa miracolosi di Santa Teresa.

Nel 1939, Rhoda fu miracolosamente guarita da un'apertura dell'addome che non poteva essere chiusa dopo molteplici interventi chirurgici, e in seguito fu guarita da un grave infortunio al piede. Aveva una devozione speciale per Santa Teresa e la pregava spesso. Madre Angelica è stata effettivamente guarita da un problema allo stomaco debilitante da adolescente dopo aver visitato Rhoda e aver pregato una novena a Santa Teresa come Rhoda aveva istruito.
Sia Gesù che Santa Teresa erano apparsi più volte a Rhoda. L'8 gennaio 1940, verso l'1:30, il Fiorellino apparve per la seconda volta a Rhoda e le lasciò cadere sette petali di rosa freschi e le disse di farli fotografare. Quando lo fece c'erano immagini di Nostro Signore e del Fiorellino nei petali di rosa.

La foto del petalo di rosa l'ho scattata con il mio cellulare, mentre Colleen ha usato la torcia del suo cellulare sull'altro lato. Si vede Santa Teresa, che tiene davanti a sé un crocifisso, e Gesù la guarda proprio davanti a lei. Quando il petalo viene capovolto, l'immagine identica è lì con Santa Teresa rivolta verso l'esterno, che guarda nell'altra direzione.
I oppositori potrebbero trovare una spiegazione, ma non c'è alcuna spiegazione per la vita di Rhoda Wise e i molti miracoli che la circondano a cui tante persone hanno assistito, incluso avere le stigmate e le molte conversioni e guarigioni riportate sia durante che dopo la sua vita.
E quando si tratta di ricevere rose da Santa Teresa dopo aver pregato per la sua intercessione, sono cauto e non mi aspetto mai cose del genere, ma sono aperto a qualunque cosa Dio scelga di permettere.
