Gorimbo Wins Another Fight At UFC

Zimbabwean🇿🇼 mixed martial arts fighter Themba Gorimbo defeated American🇺🇸 Ramiz Brahimaj by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in Las Vegas United States🇺🇸 early Sunday morning.

With the victory Gorimbo, makes it three straight wins at the UFC. This fight was contested almost exclusively in the clinch, where the taller, stronger Gorimbo repeatedly won the battles on the fence. When Brahimaj tried to execute trips and takedowns, he couldn’t get the MMA Masters representative to the ground, landing on bottom a couple times himself.

It was a grinding, low output affair, but every victory counts, and after dropping his promotional debut, the Zimbabwean🇿🇼 has now posted a trio of victories inside the Octagon to continue pushing forward in the welterweight ranks.

Need to end stigmatisation of psychosocial patients amplified

As the world commemorates Mental Health Awareness Month, a recent tragic incident in Kwekwe once again brought to light the harsh realities faced by individuals battling mental health challenges.

The untimely death of a homeless man who reportedly fell from a four-storey building in Kwekwe’s Central Business District recently, serves as a stark reminder of the stigma and discrimination that often plague those who are most vulnerable.

The heartbreaking story of the unidentified man, whose details remain shrouded in mystery even after his passing, sheds light on the systemic failures and lack of adequate care for individuals grappling with mental health issues.

It is a poignant reflection of the neglect and indifference that all too often characterises the treatment of those who are marginalised and overlooked - https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va8PCpBFnSzGYcKfLj05

What a time to be a journalist in Zimbabwe!

‘It was the best and the worst of times’, so goes an old adage, and oh how apt it is for practicing journalists in our country today.

The House of Hunger is certainly going through a metamorphosis.

People in the corridors of power are running around losing their minds like cockroaches in a tin of gamatox.

The economic situation needs rescuing; the Zimbabwean market is struggling to understand currency issues and there is social unrest in the undercurrents of the nation

The opposition parties are smelling rats everywhere and some opposition bigwigs seem to be either jumping ship or re-strategising, depending on who you are.

Zimbabwe seems to have been driven into a de facto one party state since the Tshabangu inspired recalls succcesfully gifted the ‘Rural Party’ with a two thirds majority on a silver platter.

The mammoth move by, Nelson ‘FullStop’ Chamisa has added fuel to the fire in a proper NoNonsense move and the centres on both sides seem unable to hold.

President Mnangagwa has, on the other hand, seemingly gone all out in mobilising his arsenal and appointees to justify the failing environment by coming up with a solution to the monetary problems that have dogged Zimbabwe for years now.

Put yourself in the shoes of a storyteller and imagine all this unfolding…however, with no guaranteed freedoms if you are to tell the story as it is.

Indeed, what a time to be a journalist in Zimbabwe!

Dependency at Independence

There is a feeling of exhilaration and fulfilment every husband, father, wife , mother, child, in fact everyone, rejoices in in being needed. Conversely, being relegated to non-entity status and being treated with indifference is painful as it is, but when one feels irrelevant, undesirable and unwanted, it then starts to eat away at the very core if our humanness.

Independence Day is a day to take stock of our gains, collectively and individually as Zimbabweans. As someone going in tandem with Zimbabwe in terms of age, l am often confronted with a love – hate relationship with both the establishment that has brought Zimbabwe to where it is now and the history as well as the internal external forces acting on the only country l love and that l properly and rightfully call home.
