Mbare dealer Phaeton Mutiyaya (23) has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for selling liquor to 10 minors, aged between 5 and 11, during the festive season.

The sentencing, handed down yesterday, includes 12 months for selling liquor to minors, another 12 months for selling liquor without a license, and four-months for operating without a shop license, which is wholly suspended for five years.

Mutiyaya's illegal activities came to light when a video showing intoxicated minors went viral on social media, sparking widespread condemnation. He was found to be selling alcohol from a private residence in Mbare, operating outside the confines of the law.

Zimbabwean authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old South African man suspected of sending an email that prompted travel disruptions, including forcing President Emmerson Mnangagwa to abandon a trip mid-flight.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba, identified the suspect as Cuan Reed Govender. Govender was apprehended at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport after X-Ray scanners detected bullets in his luggage.

Despite appearing in court without legal representation, Govender was fined US$300 for illegal possession of 5 live rounds of ammunition. The email warning, purportedly sent by someone using the alias John Doe, cited a bomb threat on flights to Victoria Falls prompting security measures at airports. The veracity of the threat remains uncertain, raising questions about Govender's alleged involvement, particularly considering his physical disability.

Themba Moyo is one of the domestic workers in Zimbabwe whose earnings have become worthless—a mockery of survival.

In 2022 the Labour Employment Regulation of Zimbabwe gazetted that a gardener is entitled to ZW$10 000 a month, but, due to the ever-rising inflation in Zimbabwe, this meagre salary is not enough for anything considering that at the prevailing rate, the amount is less than a USD1.

Regina Pasipanodya Themba Moyo (37) desperately gazes at the faded photograph of his mother during her happier days when laughter was common at their home. The happy years full of laughter are however now a distant memory. Moyo works as a caretaker at a farm in Mavise in Midlands province, 193 kilom...
