Newsome Mutema Tasked with Reviving Black Mambas' Fortunes

In a bid to turn around their fortunes, Black Mambas have appointed seasoned coach Newsome Mutema as their new head coach. Mutema, who has previous experience with the club, is eager to get to work and lift the team up the Northern Region Soccer League table.

"The target is to make sure that the team moves up the ladder," said Mutema. "When John Ncube left, the team was on number four and now it's on number 14, so the task is huge."

Mutema, who has coached a number of teams in the Northern Region, acknowledged the work done by his predecessors, Ncube and Innocent Nyoni, in rebuilding the squad. However, he believes that with hard work and unity, Black Mambas can find themselves challenging the league's top teams once again.

"Black Mambas is a big team, remember it once participated in the African Club competitions," Mutema noted. "Also in the Northern Region Soccer League, it's always one of the perennial campaigners. I have been at Black Mambas before and I understand the culture, so it's not going to be difficult for me hitting the ground running."

Mutema's first match in charge will be a home fixture against Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 on Saturday. The headline fixture of the weekend sees fourth-placed Scottland hosting league leaders Black Rhinos on Friday, while Herentals U20 take on MWOS in another potentially exciting Friday clash.
