Police have confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road, at the 103-kilometre peg, on July 25, 2024, at around 7 AM.

Police said two pedestrians were killed, and two others were injured when a Nissan NP200 vehicle, which had no passengers on board, veered off the road and struck the victims who were walking along a footpath approximately 70 metres away from the road.

The bodies of the deceased victims were transported to the Zvishavane District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured individuals, as well as the driver of the vehicle, were admitted to the same hospital for medical treatment.

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee has trimmed the shortlist for the vacant Warriors (Zimbabwe’s national soccer team) coaching job from five candidates down to three, ahead of the final phase of the recruitment process scheduled for next week.

NewsDay reported that the initial pool of applicants for the position included more than 180 individuals. ZIFA then whittled down the list to five candidates who were interviewed on Monday.

The five candidates were Winfried Schäfer, Antoine Hey, Michael Nees, Marcio Maximo Barcellos, and Gerard Nus.

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) matchday 21 fixtures will be played this weekend, with only one match to be played on Saturday, while the rest of the games are scheduled for Sunday.

Manica Diamonds, who have failed to find the back of the net in their past five matches, will face defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars at Sakubva Stadium.

Dynamos, who have defeated all the newly-promoted sides this season, will host newly-promoted Bikita Minerals at Rufaro Stadium. In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, Dynamos won 1-0.

Economist Gift Mugano has warned that the Zimbabwean economy is rapidly approaching a crisis similar to the one experienced in 2008 when the country’s GDP growth plummeted to -17.7% and the Zimbabwean dollar became virtually worthless.

Reacting to the Mid-Term Budget Review Statement presented to parliament on Thursday by Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Mthuli Ncube, Mugano stated that the Treasury boss should consider introducing a supplementary budget to address the financial shortfall caused by the depreciation of the local currency.

FC Platinum missed the opportunity to extend their lead atop the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Chicken Inn at Luveve Stadium on Thursday.

Going into the match, FC Platinum were the favourites, boasting a 10-game unbeaten run. However, a header from Mpumelelo Bhebhe off a Moses Majika free-kick in the 67th minute, followed by a strike from substitute Genius Mutungamiri in the closing minutes, secured maximum points for Chicken Inn.
