Zanu PF voters plan protest against disqualification of aspiring Mhangura MP labelled 'security threat'
By Staff Reporter
ZANU PF Mhangura constituency electorate is up in arms against the Politburo's disqualification of arguably the most popular candidate, Washington Zindoga, who aspires to represent the people of the area in Parliament.
As news filtered on Thursday that Zindoga had been struck off the list of contestants, disgruntled war veterans, party youths and women aligned to the aspiring MP gathered at various points to plan a protest to express displeasure with the party's decision to bar him.
Suspicion is that some people want to shield Politburo member, Douglas Mombeshora, from stiff competition from Zindoga who is so popular among the Mhangura voters.
"We have been told that Zindoga was disqualified from Saturday primary elections. However, we want to make it very clear that this is the man we wanted to elect as our MP, " said a disgruntled voter from Cheuchi, who requested anonymity.
Another female member among a crowd gathered at Umboe said the party stands to lose out on potential votes if Zindoga is not allowed to contest the weekend primaries which he would have obviously won.
"He is the favourite among the four candidates vying for the seat, we have to show our displeasure with the decision. We will demonstrate until our wishes are met," she said.
Contacted for comment, Zindoga said: "Unfortunately l cannot comment further than just saying, indeed, l was disqualified."
According to sources, the aspiring MP, who is also the Zanu PF provincial secretary for environment, has since written a letter of complaint to the party expecting a reversal of the decision.
Sitting MP, Precious Masango, Elisha Bhokoro and Mombeshora are also vying for the Mhangura MP seat.
Reports coming from Zanu PF sources say some ministers and party bigwigs might fall by the wayside in Saturday’s primary elections which were supposed to be held last week.
