Chaseyama villagers in Chimanimani district have begun bearing the brunt of El Nino effects as most of them say they are grappling to put food on the table as well as finding water for domestic use.
Those who spoke to Diamond fm said the food and water crisis has sparked various other downstream social challenges, highlighting that some of their children are now indulging in transactional s*x for food, a challenge also affecting married couples resulting in surging of infidelity issues as well as domestic and gender based violence.
With water scarcity becoming increasingly prevalent due to prolonged dry spells, the villagers have been negatively affected together with their livestock, resulting in many households and businesses turning to boreholes for reliable water supply.Be that as it may, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) has reported a significant surge in demand for groundwater as the country wrestles with the impacts of El Niño-related drought conditions. In response, the authority is urging communities to adhere to regulations for borehole sinking to ensure the sustainable use of this vital resource.The El Niño weather phenomenon brought below-normal rainfall to parts of the country, exacerbating water shortages and ZINWA has noted that this trend poses potential risks to groundwater levels and overall ecosystem health if not carefully managed, urging farmers, industries, and households, to adopt water-saving measures and prioritize efficient water use.

SADC Executive Secretary Mr Elias Magosi performed the groundbreaking and planted a Muranga tree, which will be known as the SADC Tree.

Mr Magosi also gave the acceptance speech on behalf of Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

President Hassan said that the SADC Liberation Square is a welcome development as it preserves the region's liberation history and also preserves and promotes unity for posterity.

The site will convert non-recyclable waste into electricity, producing between 16 and 22 megawatts, while simultaneously selling all recyclable materials to recycling facilities.
