*IRENE*

Its been peaceful in this house for two months now.
Nkulu has been very much behaving.

He is now a husband Fadzi's proud of .

I stood up from the bed ,the lights were dim,i was using bedside lamps .

I grabbed my stuff,incense and candles .

And spread a mat on the ground .
I lit the candles ,and burnt the Incense ,following the instructions Mighty Zha'thik gave me .

I closed my eyes ,and knelt down .
I took a deep breath and began reciting the ancient words of our ancestors

"BAYETHE,AMANCUBE,AMANZOBO,AMANYATHI,AMANDLAMBE,AMANZIZI,AMANZALA ............."

As i spoke,i felt the presence of my ancestors growing stronger ,their spirits were moving in response to my call

"Amadlozi ,i come before you today ,to give you thanks for the blessings you have given unto my family .
My daughter-in-law's ritaul was a success, everything is now going well ,and i am forever grateful for your guidance and protection "

My voice trembled with all the emotions i had as i continued to pray .

"You have given my son ,Nkulu ,a good start,he has now become the best husband to Izindle .May their union become strong ,grant them liltle children who can takeover "

I felt great joy and peace as i was praying .
I knew that my ancestors will never fail nor forsake me ,they are going to continue being with me

" Amadlozi,amadzlozi ,i ask that you continue to watch over us ,to guide us on our journey and to bless us with prosperity and good health "

I felt my prayer was like a river ,it was flowing smoothly and effortlessly.

I felt the presence of .y ancestors growing stronger and stronger .

As i finished with my prayer,i felt calm .

I knew they heard me .

I opened my eyes ,and said the final thank you to my ancestors .

When i finally opened my eyes ,his face Zha'thik ,appeared with a smile on his face ,

"It is time my daughter"

*Fadzi's bedroom*

Fadzi was sweating and wiggling, she seemed to be in a trance ,not just any trance,but that one filled with so much pain .

Nkulu was also sweating,all his efforts to wake his wife up was to no avail.

His face qas etched with worry as he gently shook his wife's shoulders trying to rouse her from her deep sleeep .

But no matter how hard he tried ,she remained still ,wiggling hear and there

At some point she was even crying .

He wiped the sweat from his brow,his eyes scanning Fadzi's body for any sign of what might be wrong .

Was she ill????

His mind was racing with questions but her silence was deafening.
His anxiety grew,what was happening?

His eyes was glued to Fadzi's body,she moved a litle bit ,when she moved. He saw blood ,on her nightwear .

_not again God,not again please_

He had gotten used to this ,the blood part,yaaa she always miscarried

He ran to his mothers room ,she knocked on the door

Irene was fast asleep, she heard the knock and woke up .

When she said come in ,Nkulu was dripping of sweat

Irene : hey whats wrong

Nkulu: maaa,its Fadzi ,ummm ,she iss. Mah its eeeee

With that he stormed back to his bedroom, where he just took the car keys and carried his wife

Irene entered the bedroom and saw Fadzi's nightwear coloured with blood .

Irene: put her down,let me change her

He didn't protest ,he just did what she said

Irene dressed Fadzi in clean clothes and panties,then she put cotton wool .

They went to tha nearest hospital 🏥.

It was alsmot nearing day break .

Fadzi was rushed into the emergency room .

A doctor rushed in ,Nkulu and Irene remained on the corridor.

Nkulu was pacing up and down, chanting the same words _Please God,save my baby_

After 30 minutes ,the doctor emerged from the emergency room,with a look of relief on her face

" Mr Nkulu ,im happy to inform you that your wife is okay ".......she said with a smile on her face

Nkulu's eyes widened with surprise "what do you mean? I thought....... i thought she was miscarrying, that's what happens all the time "

The doctor shook her head. " no. Its not a miscarriage. Fadzi is experiencing a condition called placenta previa ,where the placenta partially covers the cervix.
It can cause bleeding, but its not a miscarriage "

Nkulu let out a sign of relief ,his eyes welling up with tears "Thank you God" he whispered

Irene who had been quietly listening ,spoke up
"Doctor ,may i ask what caused the bleeding?"

The doctor hesitated for a moment before responding.
" to be honest ,we are not entirely sure but we found something unusual, a small puncture more like a hand print on her abdomen"

Nkulu: what do you mean hand print

The doctor took a deep breath, " im still terrified, and unsure of what i saw its like a hand touched her stomach aggressively, causing the bleeding "

Nkulu: im not understanding

The doctor looked from Irene to Nkulu " im not sure okay ,but from a spiritual point of view ,its possible that someone tried to harvest Fadzi's blood or the baby's "

Nkulu opened his eyes in horror " what. Why would someone do that ?"

Irene's eyes seemed to glare over at the doctor ,and she spoke in a low ,monotone voice " its an old ritaul ,one that requires the blood of the innocent"

The doctor looked at Irene " yes ,so i think thats what was happening to Fadzi "

Irene:Thank God ,she is fine and the baby ,don't worry my son,they will be fine

Nkululeko insisted on staying besides his wife ,he wasn't prepared to leave her alone,what if whatever that left a hand print on her returns

Irene left Nkulu then went home .

She took ,The bloody things that Fadzi was putting on earlier ,she took them to her room

She spread the mat ,lit candles ,white,red,black candles ,and burnt different types of incense ,calling Mighty Zha'thik to come and collect her offering

She began to chant ancient words ,the incense was burning the air in the room began to thicken and grow heavy ,the candles flickered .

Irene's heart was beating fast ,she was used to it ,nobody is used to Mighty Zha'thik.

Suddenly, the room was filled with an intense ,pulsating energy .

The air seemed to vibrate with an otherworldly power

Mighty Zha'thik, the dark entity Irene had summoned ,began to manifest in the room .

Its presence was like a cold wind ,sending shivers down Irene's spine

But she wasn't afraid ,she was consumed by a hunger for power,and she was willing to do whatever it takes to achieve her goals

*THE CLEANSING*

Fadzi was scarred or terrified, she wondered what was going to happen at the ceremony.

She was in the roundavel, alone with one of the woman she met there before

Woman:Kneel down ,child ,and call upon your ancestors

Fadzi closed her eyes ,and started clapping
She was reciting her clan names 'Mhofu'

Woman:louder. Louder ,they have to be here for this ceremony to work

Fadzi' voice grew louder .

The woman was also saying inaudible words ,but the atmosphere in the hut changed

Fadzi stopped reciting her clan names ,the elderly lady ,stood up. And touched Fadzi's head ,she started praying in words only tgose who are spirituality gifted can understand .

She stopped then gave Fadzi milk to drink .

She drank the milk

Woman: that milk is a purification liquid ,you are going to bath with it ,commanding that everything in your life becomes as pure as that milk 🥛

Woman :Amadlozi ,guide her ,she has come seeking purification, give her what her heart desires

She prayed for Fadzi's cleansing to go smoothly ,she prayed for fruitfulness,not for their peayers to go in vain

The woman left Fadzi to sleep alone in the roundavel,.

The darkness inside seemed to grow thicker around her.

She could feel the weight of anticipation building inside her ,her heart was pounding softly in her chest

For the past weeks ,she had always known that this say was going to draw closer ,she had to face the cleansing ,now that it was finally here ,she couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead of her after and during the ceremony.

What if she drawns?
What if nothing changes?

She had a lot of questions swirling in her liltle mind ,but she pushed them aside ,and focused on the present moment.

She was ready to face whatever laid ahead ,armed with love and support from her mother in law .

She woke up from her sleep ,when she heard a voice calling her

Woman :its Time ,come

She looked at her phone ,it was quarter to 3 am .

Woman :here. You have to dress in these sheets

She took off her clothes ,and wrapped the sheet around her body .

She carried a jug of milk and they set on their journey, to a stream that was a few metres away from the roundavel .

As they approached the stream, she felt a shiver run down her spine.

This was it ,the place where her cleansing was going to take place ,where her transformation was going to happen ,it was going to begin here ,the change in her life and marriage .

With a deep breath,she steeled herself and followed others towards the rocks ..

As her legs touched the waters ,she felt great energy, the place was full of unexplainable energy .

The air was thick with the scent of herbs ,that were being thrown into the water ,the incense that was being burnt

The sound of soft chanting and humming was being carried by the wind .

As the elderly lady ,drew Fadzi deeper into the water ,her heart skipped ,this was the moment she was waiting for .

Without a word ,the woman gestured for Fadzi to take off the sheet .

Fadzi took a deep breath,then took off the sheet .

She knew this was just the beginning of the ritual and that she would have to face many many things

The woman ,held Fadzi's nose and dipped her deep inside the water .

Fadzi was shaking ,the water seemed to be seeping through her bones, she grasped trying to catch her breath as soon as her head was out of water

Woman: relax Fadzi ,let the water wash away your fears and doubts .You are strong you can endure this

Fadzi took a deep breath ,trying to calm down her racing heart .

She closed her eyes ,focusing on the sensation of the cold water on her skin .

As she breathed in ,she felt her body begin to relax ,her muscles releasing their tension.

The next thing ,She felt a touch on her stomach, she jumped ,but the woman held her back

Fadzi:something is in the water and it touched me ,there is something in the water nooo let me out

Woman: relax ,relax Fadzi ,that was Amadlozi ,blessing your womb,very soon my child ,you will be carrying their child

Fadzi smiled ,she was then helped out of the water .

Woman:the first part of the ritual is over ,kneel down,let me pour milk on your head .

Fadzi did as she was told .

Woman:come

The woman walked with Fadzi towards a cave ,Fadzi's heart beat as she was led to a big pit on the ground

The pit was surrounded by a ring of fire ,stones .

In the centre,there was a large fire burning .

The flames were very high ,and very burning ,Fadzi was feeling the heat radiating from the pit

The woman gestured Fadzi to approach the pit ,and she felt a wave of fear run down her veins .

She had never been afraid of fire before,but this fire was something one couldn't play near ,there was something about this part of the ritual that made her feel uneasy but ,Irene was there ,she wasn't going to let her do things that weren't good for her .

As she approached the pit ,Fadzi saw that The Woman was now holding a basket that was filled with small ,dry leaves and she began to thrown them into the fire.

The leaves crackled and popped as they hit the flames ,and Fadzu felt a strange energy building in the air .

The fire seemed to grow higher and more intense ,Fadzi felt the heat radiating like a living thing .

The woman ,gestured for Irene to step forward and hold her daughter-in-law's hand .

She did .

Irene:its okay ,im here with you

Woman:now face the fire

She said with her voice low and serious .

Woman:you must walk through the flames and come out on the other side ,this is where you will be sharpened ,and made stronger "

Fadzi felt fear and doubt ,but Irene reassured her that she was going to make it .

She had never walked through fire ,and she wasn't sure she was going to do it but she had to trust in the woman leading her and her mother-inlaw who was holding her hand .

Taking a deep breath ,she stepped into the fire,Irene's face lit up with a big smile .

As she was walking in the fire ,it was like she was watching a movie of her life ,things that were going to happen ,

She saw herself with many children, and her husband always besides her ,.

She saw a flame that was reaching out to her ,she touched it and it whispered to her

_be careful my child ,be careful ,war has just begun, but i will guide you_

The woman threw something at the flame ,and it vanished

She continued walking through the fire,till she came out .

Her skin wasn't burnt ,she was fine ,but she felt different, very different

She drank milk ,then they went back to the roundavel.

At the roundavel they had breakfast ,she wasn't supposed to bath .

After eating ,the elderly man appeared.

All the woman in the roundavel knelt down .

"Bayethe,amaNcube,amaNzobo,amaNyathi,amaNdlambe ,amaNzizi,amaNzala,amaNzala,amaNzizi,amaNdlambe ..........Bayethe '

He was reciting the clan names ,thanking each on e for the ritual .

He praised the ancestores for guiding and preotecting Fadzi through out the ritual ,and for blessing her with wisdom and success .

The air was filled with the sweet scent of incense and the sound of drums beating in distance.

The elderly man 's voice grew louder as he was praying and praising ,his eyes were closed .

Fadzi was still feeling the effects of the ritual ,listening as the eldery man thanked her ancestors fir their blessings .

She felt a deep sense of connection .,she knew that she was given all her heart desires .

Irene sat next to Fadzi,holding her hand .

She was very happy ,that the ritaul had gone accordingly, now everything she has ever dreamt of all going to come true ,all thanks to her daughter-in-law Izindle .........
