_“When you read the news from outside Zimbabwe and then coming into Zimbabwe, I was shocked and impressed by the quality of the intercity roads”_ - *British Ambassador to Zimbabwe*
This observation among a list of other positive comments signifies a discernible shift in the United Kingdom's approach towards Zimbabwe, marked by a more amicable and thoughtful engagement. It appears that there is now a deliberate effort to evaluate pivotal issues with a heightened level of objectivity. One harbours the aspiration that this change in posture is rooted in a recognition of past misjudgments, particularly concerning the contentious land reform issue. It is my fervent hope that the United Kingdom will extend its influence to persuade allies, namely the US and the EU, to adopt a similar perspective regarding the Zimbabwean situation. This is especially pertinent considering that the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe were largely in alignment with British interests and endorsed by both the EU and the US.
*L.T General Anselem Sanyatwe assumes duty*
Story by Peter Chivhima
THE newly appointed Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Lieutenant General Anselem Sanyatwe has officially taken over command of the ZNA.
The Zimbabwe National Army this Friday held a handover and takeover grand parade that saw the newly appointed army commander, Lieutenant General Anselem Sanyatwe taking over command of the force at Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare.
In his keynote address, the Chief Witnessing Officer and Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Philip Valerio Sibanda spoke on the need for the officers and men in the force to remain vigilant and duty-bound.
“Let us all be duty-bound so that we defend the gains of the country. Let's remain disciplined since it is the cornerstone of our organisation,” said General Sibanda.
In his farewell remarks, the outgoing Commander ZNA, Lieutenant General David Sigauke thanked the Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the entire ZDF family for the support they rendered to him during his tenure as the Commander ZNA since 2021.
“As I come to the end of my exciting and demanding tenure as Commander of Zimbabwe National Army, I also wish to reiterate how privileged and honoured I feel to have been afforded an opportunity to serve the organisation in various command positions and ultimately as the Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army. I am deeply conscious of the trust and confidence that H.E the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa and the entire ZDF chain of command invested in me, and that gesture will forever be cherished. The incoming commander needs the same support,” he said.
The ceremony was also characterised by the sacramental exchange of command, which entails the handover of the ZNA flag and signed certificates.

*Zimbabwe's Land Reform Programme & Sanctions, Misplaced Justice, and Irreversibility*
Zimbabwe is observing SADC Anti-Sanctions Day today, the 25th of October 2023, with a focus on the theme, _”Harnessing the Youth for Accelerated Socio-Economic Development in the Fight Against Sanctions."_ This special day was designated by SADC to advocate for the unconditional removal of the debilitating sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. To mark this occasion, Zimbabwe has organised various events, including an Anti-Sanctions March in Harare featuring an address by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, an Anti-Sanctions Gala in Dotito, Mashonaland Central Province, and a SADC Anti-Sanctions Solidarity Summit in Mutoko, Mashonaland East Province. Furthermore, other SADC member states have expressed their support for Zimbabwe through various events and solidarity messages, all united in calling for the immediate removal of these unilateral, illegal sanctions against Harare.
It's important to highlight that, despite the New Dispensation's positive outcomes from Zimbabwe's engagement and re-engagement policies, which led to a relaxation of sanctions by the European Union and other progressive nations, the United States has chosen to tighten its sanctions against Zimbabwe. In 2001, the US introduced the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZIDERA), initially sponsored by US Senators Bill Frist and Russ Feingold, with subsequent sponsorship by then-US Senators Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden (now US President).
In 2018, the US strengthened its sanctions on Zimbabwe through an amended ZIDERA that imposed a series of conditions before considering any action towards removing the unilateral, illegal sanctions. The amended ZIDERA expressed the "sense of Congress" that the Government of Zimbabwe and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) should adhere to the SADC Tribunal rulings from 2007 to 2010. These rulings encompassed 18 disputes related to employment, commercial m

*The government's strong commitment to the dairy sector is evident through their continuous allocation of resources and support.* This includes various forms of assistance to ensure the growth of the dairy sector, such as the inclusion of dairy farmers from all scales – from small scale to large scale. Their efforts in strengthening the Dairy Revitalization Programme not only facilitate the growth of the sector but also contribute to the achievement of Vision 2030. This commendable initiative demonstrates the government's dedication to the development of the dairy industry.

Calls for fresh election a pipedream — President…Now time to move on, look ahead
ZIMBABWEANS should not be distracted by individuals who are stuck in the past as elections are now behind us with calls for a rerun of the polls by opposition CCC leader Mr Nelson Chamisa a pipedream, President Mnangagwa has said.
This comes as there have been growing calls for Mr Chamisa to graciously accept defeat and stop misleading his supporters about a possible fresh plebiscite as that is not legally and constitutionally possible.
Addressing the 372nd Session of the Politburo at the Zanu PF headquarters in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa, who is also the party’s First Secretary, said Zimbabweans should move forward and stop listening to daydreamers.
“Now that the elections are behind us, we should not be distracted by the leader of the main opposition who remains struck in the past while both Zimbabwe and the region are moving into the future. His call for an election re-rerun is a pipe dream, the earlier he realises that, the better for himself and his opposition party,” said President Mnangagwa.
Already a new Cabinet, that is expected to steer the country into prosperity, has been appointed with focus on the implementation and development of national policies, programmes and projects that improve people’s lives.
In the same vein, the President called on the Politburo and the leadership of the party, across all levels, to continue deploying their individual and collective efforts for the successful implementation of people-centred programmes and projects.
“Now that Government is in place, it is my expectation that the party will concertedly work hard to complement Government efforts in the implementation and development of national policies, programmes and projects.
“In rolling out the party and Government programmes under this Second Term of the Second Republic, we remain guided by the philosophy, Nyika

President Ramaphosa defends Zimbabwe’s elections
SOUTH African President Cyril Ramaphosa has defended the just ended Zimbabwe’s harmonised elections, saying all countries in the world face certain hiccups in the holding of their polls but it was all about getting lessons and recommendations from observers so as to incorporate them in future.
President Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu-PF party, romped to victory in the elections and various world leaders have been sending congratulations to Harare on the holding of the peaceful, free and fair elections.
The SA leader was one of the first to congratulate President Mnangagwa for the successful holding of the harmonised elections in a peaceful manner despite the adverse impact of sanctions on the economy.
Speaking during an interface with the media in South Africa yesterday, President Ramaphosa once again came to the defence of Zimbabwe, noting that even countries such as the United States of America, who claimed to be the masters of democracy also faced certain problems during their electoral process.
“There is no perfect election I can tell you that. There is contestation among parties, among candidates and it often results in disputes, in doubts and certain practices not having been adhered to. It happens all over the world. Just look at what happened in America in their last election, those that claim they are the best in the world in terms of democracy, it also happens to them.
So let us not harshly judge the outcome of elections on our continent. The countries that go through these elections often say they listened very carefully to observers and they pick up a lot of lessons and a lot of experience, recommendations and advice, similarly that is what happens in the most recent elections in our continent that is in Zimbabwe,” said President Ramaphosa.
Last week, African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Cde Fikile Mbalula also added his voice to the stronghold the ruling Zanu-PF had on the ground henc
Chamisa draws ire with reckless results utterances
POLITICAL analysts yesterday blasted Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Mr Nelson Chamisa after he told his supporters at a rally in Bulawayo that his party will announce the election results a day after polling.
Speaking at White City Stadium, he also said he will not to accept any outcome that is not in their favour. He also claimed to have already briefed foreign delegations, including the United Nations of this party position, which political analysts described as a worrisome betrayal of the national peace pledge, as such a stance is not only illegal but has the potential to incite violence and cause political instability.
Political commentators swiftly reacted with shock and criticised the opposition leader, urging him to retract his utterances when he holds his last rally in Harare today.
I have been informed and I told Sadc that they will make sure that they get the Presidential vote first and report back to ZEC so that they play around with the votes but we have said to ourselves, V11s, once we get our results, we are going to tell the world what we would have gotten, we will be the first ones to know the results and we will not accept you to cheat us again. We will have the results by the following day,” said Chamisa.
We have also advised the United Nations and informed them that we (CCC) had invited them to come and supervise the elections but they were not invited (by the Government).
“We are briefing all the delegations and have told them that any result that will put (President) Mnangagwa ahead of Chamisa is a fake result, the reality is that Mnangagwa is going to be number two, we have won this election, thank you, congratulations Zimbabwe,” said Mr Chamisa.
His utterances came just a few hours after the country’s electoral body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) had issued a statement warning against the announcement of results before they are announced by themselves.

*Undoubtedly, it remains indisputable that E.D. exhibits an unwavering commitment to delivery. A paragon of industriousness and unwavering resolve, he consistently exemplifies the virtues of diligent hard work and proactive pursuits.*
My conviction, resolute in its certainty, lies in the foreseen trajectory of our nation towards a one-party state. This prediction stems from the realisation that the main opposition grouping has heavily relied on mere protest votes, thus rendering their influence increasingly inconsequential. Meanwhile, E.D.'s relentless endeavours in circumventing detrimental sanctions and fostering extensive interdisciplinary progress have served to marginalise the opposition.
Going forward, any successful opposition political parties need to have local roots and be unwaveringly patriotic. Anything else will lead to failure.
