*📰Limping Dynamos missing five players*

DYNAMOS fc will miss at least four of their key players when they face Chicken Inn FC at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.

Ndiraya is confident they will get something out of the game despite having some of his key players out for the encounter.

Shadreck Nyahwa, Ralph Kawondera, King Nadolo and Brandon Mpofu are out of the game owing to injury and illness. Youngster Bill Antonio is also not available after sneaking out of the country for trials in Belgium.

“Our preparations have gone quite well. We know it’s gonna be a difficult game. We are going through a difficult phase and difficult fixtures and we want to make sure that we get out of this phase with something in our hands so we are going to Chicken Inn with a lot of confidence.

“Hopefully we get a favourable result. It’s been difficult for us to get a result in Bulawayo particularly at Chicken Inn, but we will give it our best shot. It’s not going to be easy, but we are in for a fight. We have not been doing well in the past games, but l think we got a confidence booster against FC Platinum.

“Hopefully we can continue to get out of those difficult phases. I hope we take our form from the FC Platinum game to Chicken Inn and this time we hope to get a goal or goals to increase our chances of winning the match,” said Ndiraya.

Having started the season brightly, Dynamos seem to have lost their mojo and they find themselves eight points adrift of leaders FC Platinum, who are on 44 points after 21 games.

Just four games ago, Dynamos, who are third on the table, were a point behind the defending champions. An indifferent run of two identical 0-0 home draws against Triangle United and FC Platinum, as well as 1-0 score-line defeats to Yadah and Cranborne Bullets have seen DeMbare slowly losing ground in the title race.

Dynamos’ last win was on June 5 when they clobbered their arch-rivals Caps United 3-0. Issah Sadiki, Ralph Kawondera and Frank Makarati were on target f

*📰Norton MP Mliswa Says Chinese Companies Are Fueling The Black Market In Zimbabwe*

Norton legislator (Independent), Temba Mliswa, has accused Chinese contractors and businesspeople working in Zimbabwe of fuelling black market activities.

Open Parly quotes Mliswa saying the Chinese are paid in local currency by the government then they take the local currency to the black market to buy US dollars which they externalise to their country.

The legislator said it was sad to note that the government is engaging foreign companies and then paying them in local currency which they cannot repatriate to their countries. He said:

The Chinese companies – the whole thrust was to empower the local companies because they did not need foreign currency. If they needed foreign currency, they would go to the auction after being paid by Government in RTGs.

Now you have got foreign companies that are coming in and this is where the problem is, the local companies must go to auction. They are being paid especially the Chinese companies, they go on the black market and the inflation goes up and then they externalise that money. So, a lot of money is being externalised as a result of that because they are not interested in the RTGs.

Mliswa, a former ZANU PF member, said the government knows “very well” that foreign companies are saboteurs in terms of increasing inflation.

He urged Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi to issue a statement in response to the reports.

*📰Italian PM resigns after week of turmoil*

A year-and-a-half after he was appointed as Italy's unelected head of a unity government, Mario Draghi has resigned as prime minister.

He told President Sergio Mattarella he was standing down after three parties in his government refused to back him in a confidence vote the night before.

The president asked him to remain as caretaker leader and early elections are expected this autumn.

Far-right leader Giorgia Meloni is already being tipped to win.

Mr Draghi, 74, was a popular choice as prime minister, dubbed Super Mario for his handling of the eurozone crisis as head of the European Central Bank.

In February last year, he was given the task of guiding Italy through the Covid pandemic and economic recovery, bolstered by a big EU package conditional on major reforms.

Before heading to the presidential palace, the Quirinale, Mr Draghi was given a round of applause in the lower house of parliament. "Even central bankers have their hearts touched sometimes. Thank you for all the work done in this period," he told MPs.

He first tendered his resignation a week ago when a populist party in his broad-based government refused to back an economic package for businesses and families.

President Mattarella had asked him to stay in the post and, after days of silence, Mr Draghi told the upper house of parliament he would continue - if the political parties were prepared to back a strong, cohesive government: "Are the parties and you parliamentarians ready to rebuild this pact?"

For several hours, Italians waited with bated breath for the answer, before three of the parties decided they would not back him in a vote of confidence.

The Milan stock market fell for the second day in a row. Another key indicator closely watched in Italy, called the spread, soared 9%: that is the gap between Italian and German 10-year bonds.

President Mattarella said his government would remain in office to handle current affairs, but did not say

*'Strange Salary' Fuels Teachers Strike*
Unions representing teachers have said a strike action was inevitable because their July salaries reflecting a 100% adjustment have long been eroded by inflation currently at 191%.

“Teachers received a strange salary yesterday equivalent to US$48, using the parallel rate. Shockingly, this was after a 100% increment. The increase is a high sounding nothing and has no effect on the strike beginning after Friday,” said Educators Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Tapedza
Zhou.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe deputy secretary, Munyaradzi Masiyiwa said: “100% of zero will remain nothing. In June when teachers got $19 000, the market rate was US$1:$450
This incident has just triggered anger among teachers. Civil servants would meet on Friday to consider a way forward. However, a job action is inevitable.”

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou said civil servants were demanding United States dollar salaries to make ends meet.

“Teachers are also worried about the government’s failure to implement the long agreed non-monetary incentives — such as assistance in paying their children’s school fees — let alone unilateral salary deductions and salary discrepancies between teachers and members of the armed forces,” Zhou said.

Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions secretary-general David Dzatsunga also confirmed the looming job action.

The Zimbabwe Professional Nurses Union president Robert Chiduku said his union would “stand in solidarity with teachers”.

Two weeks ago, civil servants gave a notice of a full-blown industrial action if government failed to meet their demands.

The notice expires tomorrow.

Efforts to get a comment from the Public Service Commission were
futile.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Paul Mavima’s mobile number was not reachable, while permanent secretary Simon Masanga referred NewsDay back to PSC.

*📰Zimbabweans steal SA police van*

POLICE in Neilspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa have arrested two Zimbabwean nationals aged 29 and 34 found in possession of a stolen police pick-up truck they allegedly converted into a tanker to transport stolen fuel.

One of the suspects also faces a charge of contravening the SA Immigration Act, having been in that country illegally.

In a statement, the South African Police Services (Saps) said the Zimbabweans were arrested yesterday morning during a routine highway patrol.

"Members of the Saps from Delmas were conducting patrol duties on the N12 Road when they noticed a suspicious white Nissan NP300 single cab bakkie with two occupants.

"The vehicle, which had Gauteng registration number plates, looked rather strange as it appeared to be heavily loaded with something and was covered with a black canvas," said Saps spokesman for Mpumalanga Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

"The members then ordered its driver to stop which was followed by a search. Surprisingly when members removed the canvas they discovered that the back of the bakkie was in actual sense, converted into a diesel tank."

Police said further checks revealed the car was stolen from Thohoyandou Police Station, and had been affixed with false number plates.

"They were then detained and are facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen diesel. This matter is still being investigated to find out as to how the vehicle landed in the hands of the two Zimbabwean nationals. More charges against the two are imminent," Saps added.

*📰Diarrhoea outbreak in Bulawayo’s Ward 17*

OVER 200 people have been treated for diarrhoea in Bulawayo’s Ward 17 forcing the local authority to exempt residents from the ongoing water shedding to curb the spread of the disease.

The outbreak was reported last week in Pumula North suburb.

Other areas falling under Ward 17 are St Peter’s Village, Mazwi Village, Robert Sinyoka Village, Methodist Village and Green Gables.

Council is now treating those affected by the outbreak for free.

Diarrhoea is usually caused by a virus, or sometimes, contaminated food and symptoms include frequent, loose, watery stools and stomach pain.

Severe cases can cause enough dehydration to require intravenous fluids.

Pumula Clinic has been offering free medication and help for those who have symptoms and suffer from diarrhoea.

Bulawayo City Council has been implementing a water-shedding programme around the city and some suburbs have gone without water since Monday after council announced a four-day maintenance programme.

Last year, Bulawayo recorded a diarrhoea outbreak in Tshabalala Extension and Emganwini suburbs.

The city’s worst outbreak in recent years was reported in June 2020, when 13 people died after nearly 2 000 residents fell ill in Luveve after raw sewage contaminated drinking water.

In 2021, about 100 people, mostly children, were treated for running stomachs in Mzilikazi and the surrounding suburbs.

The diarrhoea outbreaks follow the 2020 Auditor-General’s report tabled before Parliament that stated that Bulawayo is among six local authorities at risk of an outbreak of water-borne diseases that could lead to deaths due to failure to manage sewer reticulation systems.

A Chronicle news crew yesterday visited Pumula North suburb and found a mother who had just left Pumula Clinic, carrying her baby.

The woman, who only identified herself as nakaMalvin said her four-year-old son fell ill at home on Saturday.

“I had brought my child to the clinic who had a running

*📰Pastor caught on camera stealing from his own church*

A 31-year-old pastor was caught on camera stealing property worth US$13,000 from his church, a Harare court heard on Wednesday.

Adolf Lwazi Moyo appeared in court charged with two theft counts.

He was remanded in custody awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to the charges.

The court heard that on July 11 this year, one Perfect Hlongwane locked the doors of the Apostles of Christ situated at Gallop Blank Building, Harare.

Hlongwane connected zoom meeting systems, assuming that the meeting would commence the following day.

The following day, Moyo allegedly entered the church and stole television sets and laptops.

Moyo was captured by CCTV cameras while taking the gadgets.

On July 16 2022, Hlongwane went to the church and discovered that 18 laptops were missing.

He reported the matter to the police.

Moyo also admitted that he also stole a television set from a law firm situated in the same building.

He was apprehended by the police on July 19 and voluntarily made indications leading to the recovery of some of the stolen gadgets.

Magistrate Notcia Shenje is presiding over the case, while Charlotte Chikore is prosecuting.

*Zimbabwe Food Crisis: Could Sorghum & Millet Replace Maize?*
In what would have been unthinkable a few years ago, the Svosve family in north-eastern Zimbabwe is ditching maize for indigenous grains in order to overcome persistent drought and food shortages.

This is despite the fact that maize is second only to water in importance in the average Zimbabwean household, as maize flour is used to make the national food - sadza.

Maize is not only a staple and a status symbol for farmers, but also an important cash crop.

But low yields have forced the Svosves, who are subsistence farmers, to focus more on growing sorghum and millet - both of which were staples before Portuguese traders in the 1500s brought maize from the Americas, according to historians.

When I visited the Svosves at their homestead in Mduzi, a semi-arid area with grey-coloured stony soil, members of the family were crowded around a threshing machine spitting out buckets of grain.
Family head Lovemore Svosve said they would have plenty to eat, even though the rainy season was disastrous.

"We planted a sizeable maize crop as well as sorghum and millet. But we got nothing from the maize. It was scorched after there was no rain for three months. We harvested just the traditional grains," he said.

One of his wives, Rose Karina, brought out a small black pot with a few maize cobs in it. That was all they harvested from 10kg of maize seed and more than 100kg of fertiliser.

In comparison, stacked on their veranda were many sacks of sorghum. They were able to get more than one tonne from five kilogrammes of seed and fertiliser.

"We aren't planting maize again. I don't know how anyone in this area can after the last season," she said, shaking her head.

Her comment would raise the eyebrows of most Zimbabweans, but the need to once again grow traditional grains is highlighted by the fact that some four million people are in need of food aid and about 400,000 tonnes of maize will have to be imported

*📰Man says woman he’s been staying with for 21 years is a just a friend*

AFTER staying with a man for 21 solid years and bearing four children in a union she believed was a marriage, a woman of Lusaka has been rejected by her partner who says she’s just a friend he has been cohabiting with.

Bwalya Mulenga, 49 suffered the rejection before the Lusaka Boma Local Court where she had sued Modest Kalunga aged 54 of Kasupe area in Lusaka for divorce.

Mulenga told the court she had decided to call it quits on her marriage to Kalunga because he had changed so much from the time his businesses became profitable in 2019.

She said all was rosy and cozy from 2001 until her husband’s swelling bank account caused him to start outsourcing waist pleasure providers whilst she starved in the matrimonial bed.

“He started neglecting me and going out with other woman,” she complained.

Mulenga testified how her man handed her beatings instead of hugs and kisses whenever she attempted to be intimate with him.

Mulenga further revealed to the court that Kalunga would complain about how fat she had become yet her back was as flat as a Hisense flat tv screen.

But much to her shock and that of the court, Kalunga said he could not divorce a woman he had never married.

Kalunga said as far as he was concerned, him and Mulenga were just friends who were staying together.

He even denied being the father of three of the four children born during their 21-year stay together.

After hearing both sides Senior Local Court Magistrate Mpundu Mwape adjourned the matter to a later date for both parties to present their evidence of their claims.

*📰ZimStat releases labour force survey findings*

THE Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has released the 2022 first quarter Labour Force Survey findings, which indicate that over three million people are employed in various sectors of the economy.

According to the report, 3 274 645 people were employed in the period under review with the national employment-population ratio pegged at 35,3 percent.

Of the total employed, males dominated the labour force with 1 908 732 employed while 1 365 912 women were employed.

The primary objective of the survey was to provide information on the number of people classified according to their activity status.

It also indicated people employed in the informal sector and informal employment and tracked labour migration.

The survey, which had a national response of 93 percent also monitored labour market indicators necessary to monitor the implementation of Zimbabwe’s macro-economic policies such as the National Development Strategy 1 and other related strategies.

THE Southern African Development Community (Sadc)

The survey also provides information on key labour market indicators for Zimbabwe that are comparable with Sadc and other African countries in line with international standards.

In terms of the survey methodology, the report had a two-stage sample design that was used for sample selection for the survey.

The first stage was the selection of enumeration areas using the probability proportional size criteria.

The next stage involved the selection of households in the selected enumeration areas using random systematic sampling technique.

A total of 500 enumeration areas and 12 500 households were selected for the survey.

In the quarter under review, the agency found out that Harare had the highest employment population ratio of around 50,2 percent followed by Bulawayo at 46,1 percent, a slight drop of 0,7 percent from the 2021 fourth quarter.

The least employment population ratio was in Matabeleland N

*📰China warns of ‘forceful measures’ if U.S. House Speaker Pelosi visits Taiwan*

*China’s* government warned on Tuesday (July 19) it would take “forceful measures” if U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, after the Financial Times said she would go to the Chinese-claimed Island next month.

Speaking in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said any visit by Pelosi would “seriously undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Pelosi and her delegation will also visit Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, and spend time in Hawaii at the headquarters of U.S. Indo-Pacific command, the paper added, citing people familiar with the matter.

Her office and the U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said it has “not received relevant information” about any visit.

Taiwan faces mounting pressure from China, which considers the democratically ruled island its own territory.

The issue is a constant irritant in ties between Beijing and Washington.

Five people have been found dead at Mavhuradonha Mountain by a hunter after they had gone missing on November 03 2021.

*📰Five ways human traffickers find their victims*

Avoid falling into the hands of human traffickers by learning to spot the signs today. And remember the saying: When an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

What is human trafficking?

Human trafficking, simply put, is when a person is taken from one location to another with the intent of forcing or exploiting the victim. And it happens more often than you might think. There are at least 1.4 million victims of human trafficking living under coercion and exploitation in Nigeria, according to the International Organization for Migration. Yetumbe Abraham was one of them; she was tricked by a close relative with an offer in Germany, she told VOA news. After agreeing to the offer, she was trafficked to Libya for prostitution to make money for her traffickers. She was there for six years.

Where do victims end up?

Although half of the several hundreds of thousands of Nigerians in Europe live in the United Kingdom, Italy is host to the second-largest group of Nigerians and is the most important destination for Nigerian victims of trafficking. According to IOM, the source of victims is predominantly from Edo State with Benin City identified as the main junction for prostitution-related emigration.

How can I spot the signs of a human trafficker?

1. Human traffickers often publish advertisements for lucrative and attractive sounding job offers in foreign countries.
2. Human traffickers often work together with family or community members of the victim, or people of authority to sell them.
3. They sometimes use romantic gestures to attract the victims, especially girls and women, to follow them on the journey. Women often end up as s*x workers or get involved in other illegal activities as a result of their irregular migrant status.
4. Another characteristic of trafficking in Nigeria is that it is organized primarily by women. Many of the traffickers have themselves been trafficking victims. Women who fulfil

*📰Civil servants bonus payments start this week*

THE bulk of civil servants, among them teachers, will start receiving their United States dollar bonus payments this week, while the Government will also announce a raft of other measures to cushion workers and increase their spending power.

A fortnight ago, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development announced that this year’s bonus for civil servants will be paid in US dollars, a development that has excited Government workers.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima told our Bulawayo Bureau yesterday that payments will start this week.

“In fact the money (bonus) should have come in with the November salary, but it will start reflecting in bank accounts this week or before the end of the month. Normally it is those in the education sector that start receiving and from my understanding the bulk of the civil servants will receive their bonus this month and the rest next month,” he said.

Apart from the bonus, the Government is also set to announce other benefits for its workforce.

“I understand the National Joint Negotiation Council is meeting next (this) week. I am just waiting for the report from that meeting so that we can look at it,” he said.

Apex Council secretary Mr David Dzatsunga yesterday confirmed that the meeting has been slated for tomorrow.

“The meeting is now on Monday at 10am. We are going to discuss the issue of the bonus and the need for a Cost of Living Adjustment. More importantly on salaries we want the Government to consider paying us in US dollars as they are going to do with the bonus,” he said.

*Lightning Strike Injures 13 Inmates At Hwange Prison*
Thirteen inmates at Hwange Prison are lucky to be alive after being struck by a bolt of lightning yesterday afternoon following a violent storm.

The inmates were having their lunch in the prison yard when a lightning bolt struck seriously injuring four of them. The 13 inmates were rushed to St Patrick’s hospita The four were later transferred to Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo due to the extent of their injuries.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) national deputy spokesperson Superintendent Peter Chaparanganda confirmed the incident saying the inmates were receiving treatment.

“I can confirm that on 19 November 2021 at around 11am a bolt of lightning struck at Hwange Prison in Matabeleland North province and 13 convicted male inmates were affected. The inmates were inside the prison yard around 1130hrs whilst they were being fed lunch. All the 13 inmates were rushed to St Patrick’s hospital and upon arrival 4 of them were reported to be serious while the other nine were said to be stable. The four were referred to Mpilo hospital in Bulawayo for further management,” said Supt Chaparanganda.

He said the four inmates were receiving treatment and in a stable condition. The other nine inmates are said to have escaped with moderate burns to the face, stomach, hands and legs.

The development comes as the country started receiving its first rains with the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) issuing warnings of violent storms, hail and lightning.

This comes as the country has been experiencing extremely high temperatures known to be breeding ground for violent storms characterized by strong winds and lightning.

“Moisture is drifting into the country from Botswana through Matabeleland North and South provinces. This coupled with high temperatures over much of the country should result in thunderstorms which may be violent in some places (coupled with strong winds, lightning, hail and heavy ra
