*CCC supporters march against candidate removal in Mkoba North*

HARARE, Zimbabwe - Thousands of supporters of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the main opposition party in Zimbabwe, marched in Mkoba North on Sunday to protest the removal of their parliamentary candidate, Honorable Amos Chibaya, from the by-election ballot papers.
The march was led by Hon. Chibaya, the CCC’s National Organizer, and Hon. Gift Ostallos Siziba, the Deputy Party Spokesperson. They accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of colluding with a faction of the CCC led by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be the interim Secretary General of the party, to disqualify their candidates.
Tshabangu, who is widely seen as a Zanu PF proxy, has been using the courts to recall CCC candidates who won in the 2023 harmonized elections, alleging that they are no longer members of the party. He has also sought to prevent the recalled candidates from using the CCC party symbols, such as the open palm.
However, Tshabangu has failed to field candidates in many constituencies and wards where he recalled CCC candidates, leaving Zanu PF to win them uncontested in the by-elections scheduled for February 3, 2024. This has raised suspicions that he is working to help Zanu PF gain a two-thirds majority in parliament, which would enable them to amend the constitution.
Hon. Chibaya, who is the CCC candidate for Mkoba North, said that the march was a peaceful expression of dissatisfaction with the removal of CCC candidates across the country. He vowed to challenge the decision in court and urged the people of Mkoba North to vote for him in the by-election.
“We are not going to accept this injustice. We are going to fight for our democratic right to represent the people who voted for us. We are going to expose the dirty tricks of Tshabangu and his Zanu PF handlers. We are going to reclaim our seats and defend our party symbols. We are going to vote for change in Mko
