DAEV's family sue XYZ Entertainment Limited over royalties

THE family of late musician David Phiri popularly known as Daev has sued XYZ Entertainment Limited in the Lusaka Magistrates' Court for reimbursement of money paid to the music company by companies that had running advertisement contracts with the late.
According to a writ of summons, Martha Phiri, suing in her capacity as the administratrix of the estate of the late David Phiri, is demanding that XYZ Entertainment limited releases the record label contract signed between it and the late David.
She wants an immediate release of music projects and other contracts signed by the late.
The administratrix of the late musician is also claiming that the family be compensated for damages caused by the music company's actions, costs of the action amounting to K10,283 and any relief that the court may deem fit.
Phiri is represented by Simon Mwila of Messrs M.K. Achiume and associates.
Daev who was known by his hit song "Its never been easy" burnt to death in a road accident on September 27, 2020 together with three others, around 14:00 hours on the Chirundu - Kafue road at Red Paint area.
The accident happened when Daev lost control of the Toyota Vitz he was driving, carriered off the road, overturned and caught fire.
