There was a near punch-up among the 8 Mine-Worker Unions at Kitwe’s Garden Court Hotel this morning after 5 of the unions collectively accused the other 3 of hypocrisy and creating divisions.

During the confrontation, Mine Contractors, Factory and Allied Workers Union general secretary Levi Chimfwembe and MUZ President Joseph Chewe went for each other's necks and calling each other names.

LCC DEMOLISHES ILLEGAL EATERIES TO COMBAT CHOLERA OUTBREAK
The Lusaka City Council - LCC has intensified its Cholera response operation by raising down illegal makeshift restaurants in Lusaka’s Thorn-park area commonly known as Matebeto.
Makeshift stores erected around Kabelenge, Nipa, Industrial area and Chandwe Musonda road were also brought down.
The operation which was spearheaded by the Local Authority’s departments of City Planning and Public Health was done in a bid to curb further spread of cholera especially that the illegal makeshift stores in question were erected in spaces lacking basic sanitation and waste disposal facilities.
Having conducted this operation successfully with support from Zambia Police, Lusaka City Council would like to place on record its strong intent and desire to restore order and sanity in the city by bringing to book those perpetrating the illegality.
The Local Authority would also report that all makeshift owners trading in food facilities items near Woodlands round-about have been served with notices to remove their merchandise to allow the Local Council to clear and clean up the area as the space is not designated as a trading space.
The Council would like to appeal to members of the public to uphold high levels of hygiene to prevent the scourge of cholera.
We would to also encourage members of the public to be cooperative as the Council conducts its continuous exercise to disinfect and distribute chlorine in all cholera hotspots in the city.

CHAOS AS REFEREE RUNS FOR LIFE AT REFURBISHED CHIPATA STADIUM
Chaotic scenes of violence and insults erupted at the refurbished David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata yesterday, forcing a referee into a run-for-life marathon.
What was started as an electric and entertaining game of football pitting Provincial Division One rivals Chipata City Council FC and Mikalile FC descended into chaos at the final whistle.
In a spectacular turnaround, Mikalile FC snatched victory with a late goal, securing a 3-2 triumph that set the stage for mayhem.
However, jubilation turned to fury among some supporters who transformed the stadium into a WWE royal rumble, expressing their discontent with the referees.
Alleged poor officiating fueled the ire, igniting a brawl that saw punches and kicks raining down on the match officials.
The mob's wrath spared no one, catching linesmen in its clutches as they attempted to flee the escalating violence.
The fallout from this football fracas prompted a swift response from the Eastern Province Football Association, as outlined in a memo dated 26th November 2023.
Chairperson Chrispin Kamuna condemned the "barbaric acts of extreme hooliganism," stressing that such behavior had no place in Eastern Province football or Zambia as a whole.
Kamuna reassured the public about the well-being of the officials while vehemently denouncing the unruly actions.
"We regret these acts and we condemn them in the strongest terms," declared Kamuna, emphasizing the commitment to upholding the integrity of the sport through stringent disciplinary measures.
The memo, circulated to Secretary Generals and key figures including FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga and Provincial Referees Coordinator Emmanuel Phiri, expressed deep regret over the disturbance during the match and underscored the potential threat to the lives of match officials.
Despite the physical harm suffered, the memo assured that the officials are in stable condition and out of danger. Kamuna hig
