Njobvu appeals to HH to pardon 34 Chiwempala youths
..calls for a ceasefire against Archbishop Banda

In the spirit of love and forgiveness, Democratic Union president, Ackim Antony Njobvu is calling for mercy and reconciliation, appealing to President Hakainde Hichilema to pardon the 34 Chingola youths involved in the Chiwempala incident last year.

And Njobvu has also urged for a ceasefire against Archbishop Alick Banda, who is currently facing scrutiny from the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

Njobvu's appeal aligns with President Hichilema's new year's message of unity, love, and dialogue.

He says the Chiwempala incident was a community issue that escalated due to unresolved tensions.

The 34 youths of Chiwempala are accused of committing several crimes, including, terrorism; endangering lives, damaging property, and instilling fear in the public to prevent them from attending a public address by the government.

These charges stem from a riot that occurred on November 8, 2025, when President Hichilema visited the gutted Chiwempala Market in Chingola.

The youths allegedly threw stones at the President's stage, disrupting his address.

"I want to make a special appeal to the President on behalf of the 34 youths and their families, to consider pardoning the young people who threw stones at him during a rally in Chiwempala in Chingola," he said.

Njobvu stated that the President's message is crucial considering last year's events which seemingly caused tension and divisions in the country.

Meanwhile, Njobvu has also called for a ceasefire against Catholic bishop Alick Banda.

Archbishop Banda's situation is sparking debate, with some seeing it as a test of the government's commitment to justice and others as a potential intimidation tactic ahead of the 2026 elections.

The opposition leader has since reminded the President of what the church did for him when he was slapped with treason as an opposition leader.

Sad reality 💔
Most of us grew up like this:
Mixed together with our cousins,
but now,
as adults,
we no longer talk!
Everyone now has levels,
rich ones avoid calls from the poor,
and the poor tend to distance themselves to save their pride.
Family gatherings are just events to track who's doing better in life and who's failing within families.
It's no longer a matter of strengthening unity.
We buried the people who used to keep the families together.
Family isn't what it used to be.
There was a time when you could go to your grandmas house to eat,
hang out with the family and have a good time.
Now everybody chooses who they want to deal with.
Aunties and uncles choose which kids to be proud of.
Brothers and sisters treat friends more like family.
Cousins talk badly about each other.
Grandparents spend time with certain grandkids.
Now we only meet and behave like a family when there's a funeral....
Ooh,
I almost forgot we also work so hard,
so that just in case we call our relatives,
they won't refuse to pick up the phone,
thinking that we want to beg from them...
Some relatives ask you why you don't call or talk to them,
but they also forget to ask themselves if their own children call or talk to your parents as well.
Yes,
sad reality 💔💔 and life is getting shorter as time goes by.

It has been a tough year for Zambia - Njobvu

Democratic Union president, Ackim Antony Njobvu has described 2025 as one of the toughest years for the country, with the nation experiencing one of the worst energy (electricity) crisis in history.

The country has in recent past endured the worst load shedding, with citizens having less than three hours of the commodity.

The electricity crisis crippled most businesses, especially those that depended on Zesco for their operations.

The DU leader has however noted the current improvements in electricity supply, but however, he questions its sustainability due to "politics" attached to the issue, as other stakeholders have argued that the miraculous availability of electricity is a move to lure Zambians into voting for the UPND in 2026.

Recalling on happenings of 2025 during an interview on Millennium radio, Njobvu said the stonning of President Hakainde Hichilema in Chiwempala, Chingola, Copperbelt province was also one of the saddest developments witnessed in the year.

He attributed the incident to poor communication strategies by the government with regards issues of mining, and residents' involvement in their country's mineral resources.

Meanwhile, Njobvu also said the death of former President Edgar Lungu, who is yet to be burried, six months after his demise still remains a sad situation for the country.

The outspoken leader has since called for healing and reconciliation among politicians and general citizenry as the new year approaches.

He called on Zambians to rally behind the DU as the solution to the country's challenges.

Zambians warned against re-electing UPND in 2026 over mining sector concerns

Democratic Union president, Ackim Antony Njobvu is warning Zambians against re-electing the UPND government in 2026, citing concerns over the country's mining sector.

Njobvu argues that despite government claims of improvement, the sector remains in a poor state, with most revenue going to foreign investors due to unfavorable "bad" contracts.

The UPND government has previously stated that it is working to boost local participation in the mining industry and reviewing tax policies to attract sustained investment.

But Njobvu has criticized government's handling of Zambia's mining sector, saying the country isn't benefiting from its resources due to bad contracts with foreign investors.

He argues that pronouncements made have not benefited the Zambian people.

"When you talk about investment in the mining sector, it must translate to benefit the citizens', he said.

Meanwhile, Njobvu said electing back President Hakainde Hichilema would be the biggest mistake people will make in 2026.

Njobvu says the country requires a radical change of leadership, driven by young people.

Njobvu observes that current challenges being faced in the country requires innovating minds, saying it is the time for the country's youth to take a leading role.

He was speaking during an interview on Millennium Radio.

Numwa vows to deliver Justin Kabwe ward 24 to UPND

Eugene Numwa, the aspiring councillor for Justin Kabwe ward 24 in Mandevu constituency is confident that he'll deliver the ward to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in the 2026 general elections.

Numwa believes it's time for UPND to take over Mandevu constituency, currently dominated by the Patriotic Front (PF), citing the party's development achievements in areas they govern.

He claims some opposition-held areas, including Mandevu, have lagged behind in development.

Numwa promises a transformative ward if elected councillor in 2026 under the ruling.

He was speaking during a Bill 7 celebratory function of Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Cindy Kauka the trade tourism and economic attache in Lubumbashi DRC who officiated as guest of honour called on the people in the ward to rally behind Numwa, adding that the candidate has what it takes to drive developmental activities.

She also expressed confidence that the UPND would grab the ward in next year's elections having been gaining momentum by winning by-elections in former PF strongholds.

Child marriage and teenage pregnancy alarms opposition Democratic Union president

Democratic Union president Ackim Antony Njobvu expresses concern over rising cases of child marriage and teenage pregnancy, citing a UNICEF report that 1.8 million Zambian girls are married before 18.

According to UNICEF, nearly 28% of girls aged 15-19 are already mothers, impacting education, health and economic prospects.

Njobvu urges more action, acknowledging government efforts but warning the issue worsens if unchecked.

The 2018 Zambia Demographic Health Survey shows 29% of adolescent girls become pregnant by 18, highlighting challenges Zambia faces.

Chuulu clinic nears completion, bringing hope to residents

By Francis Chipalo

Construction of the Joe Muchindu-sponsored clinic in Chuulu, Masuku ward, Choma, has reached roof level, sparking excitement among locals.

For years, residents traveled far for medical services, a challenge addressed by the Muchindu Foundation.

Cynthia Mudenda, speaking for local mothers, praised the development, saying it's a huge relief, especially for women. "We commend Muchindu for this humane gesture," she said.

Meanwhile, Muchindu said the gesture was part of the foundation's agenda of contributing to community development.

"This is also us supplementing government efforts in health provision because we know that the government cannot do everything and that is why we came on board especially after listening to the cries of the people here," he said.

Muchindu is hopeful that the clinic would soon be completed, adding that once that is done, the community will get to access medical care at their backyards.

The clinic, once completed, promises to transform healthcare access in the area.

Govt's Copper production target criticized as 'misplaced'

By Francis Chipalo

The Democratic Union has slammed the government's plan to produce 3 million metric tonnes of copper by 2031, calling it "misplaced" since Zambia does not control the mines.

The UPND government aims to boost copper production to 1 million metric tonnes in 2025 and 3 million by 2031, citing policy stability and fiscal incentives.

But Njobvu argues that the focus should shift to benefiting Zambians, not just meeting production targets.

Njobvu has advised government to rethink its position, saying continuing on this trajectory, President Hakainde Hichilema's administration will be betraying Zambians.

"We cannot set such an ambitious target when we do not have control over the mines. We have given the mines a lot of tax incentives, and again we are giving them a bonus that a mine more and take it out of the country. This for me is misplaced," Njobvu said.

Njobvu said in an interview that the country can only set such a target when it has total country over the mines, adding; "then we can set such an ambitious target because we will know that whatever is being mined, the capital remains in the country. We need our people to begin benefiting from the mining resources instead of allowing other countries to benefit".

He said it is laughable that Zambia mines among other minerals, gold, but yet has nothing to boast about in its reserves due to misplaced priorities by government and a lack of leadership.

The outspoken leader has emphasized on the need to promote local direct investment where citizens invest in the mining sector, adding that doing so would enable the resource remain in the hands of the citizens.

For this to happen, Njobvu has called for a radical change of leadership in next year's general elections where a leader (s) with fresh - innovative ideas takes charge as Republican President.
