Desiring growth is not a problem for most of us. What presents itself as a challenge is doing what we are supposed to do in order to grow.

A personal growth programme will include activities such as reading a book on a specific topic, working out, taking a course etc.
Activities for growth should be engaged in every day for 1hr. What seems to be a challenge for most people is staying consistent. How can you stay consistent?

Consistency for your growth is achieved through personal discipline to follow through with your routine. In the absence of discipline, you will fall short of your growth plan or whatever you want to achieve.

Further, when you understand the immense benefits for growth in your career, leadership, business etc you will have a daily motivation to stay on and discipline will help you stay consistent.

Don't judge a book by its cover. 🀣 So four years ago i was at NIPA & i pursued a Diploma in Human Resources. Well, i couldn't write my final exams due to lack of funds. πŸ˜– I stayed home for some months and eish i was depressed seeing my close friend (by then) graduate because we studied together and had plans. πŸ˜” I remember following year i registered again by Faith imwe and exams were approaching still i didn't have money. πŸ˜‚ Elo nalikwata umu pampamina last i never gave up.

Two days before exams i went to Timothy Sapato's office by then he was NIPASU president ala i cried kwati cililo and eish i explained to him, we moved from one office to another so that he could talk to them on my behalf but wala!! 😭 I became more frustrated.

I remember studying a day before exams with so much faith and before sleeping i prayed harder. Ala may God bless you for me khaiii 😍 Became a volunteer at Chilenje Level One Hospital, it was a great experience & i gained more knowledge.

From there i worked for Mr Brian, who helped me in so many ways, he tolerated my silly behavior & understood me. God bless you too. While working for him, I saved some money & took myself back to school & this time i pursued a Diploma in Public Health. 😭

Whenever i remember everything ala i cry 😭😭because no one can manage to endure what i went through, i constantly praise myself njebele honourable mwalikosa, nakambala sugar ulichanakashi pa banakashi, slim fit i salute you, akanakashi ka konsa, 🀣its not easy to be me lol. 🀣 Above all God you deserve the very best because you have been an amazing father.😍

It’s been a year since I graduated from university and when I look back at my journey, it makes me even more proud of myself for this achievement;

- Denied a scholarship to study in China
- Later called to go and study English in a French / Arabic speaking country
-Continued to push until I was finally granted the course I always wanted to do (which is Computer Science)
- had to adjust to learning and writing exams in French
- Failed my first year and had to repeat
- Fell into depression because I thought I wouldn’t make it
- Prayed about it, picked myself up and finally got that degree πŸ’ͺ🏽
- And now currently working for the best cybersecurity consultancy firm!

All I can say is God has been good to me! Never give up, if it’s meant for you it will come to pass! Next up MSc πŸ’ͺ🏽

From security guard to graduate!
The story of Timothy Tembo
He wrote;
Am here to thank Professor Chifwanakeni for employing me to work in his company. I still remember the day he picked me from Builders warehouse East Park were I was working as (Omega security guard).

I had challenges to pay my school fees.but through God's directions, he told me to write an application letter to his company and finally he employed me in 2019 and that was the end of most of my financial challenges. Here I am putting on a gown. Many people think that being a guard is the end of everything, sometime we are bullied, mosquito bites in the night , but if you are focused and determined nothing will stop you to become who you want to be in life .

Once more, I give many many thanks to you Professor and may God protect you and add more years to live on this earth so that you continue helping people who are in need. I salute you boss Above all, I thank you God

MY SHORT STORY! πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“β€πŸ”₯

Ok. So here goes, I've been looking for what to say the last couple of days, feeling overwhelmed with joy really πŸ₯ΊπŸ™ŒπŸΎ. (LONG READ)

I completed school when i was 16 and my plan was to have 2 degrees and a masters by now. Well, 10 years later, here we are with my 1st Degree. Within these 10 years,I started my CIM course at ZCAS, learnt for 2 semesters and couldn't finish due to lack of finances. Which forced me to start work at the age of 17 and that's how i moved to Ndola, Which i now call home.

Later on, I decided to drop CIM because it had no provision for distance then, so i went for my passion, Mass Communication and PR at another school, I missed the first exam and i quit.

My bestfriend said Christina, "You just have to do it, it's your passion." Shortly after, I found an Ad on Facebook by Cavendish University Zambia , applied, i was accepted and here we are. (Short version)πŸ˜‚πŸ€£.

As my father says Success wipes away all pain. Truly when the lord says, "... I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm...Joel 2:25 KJV"
He means it. All i am filled with is joyπŸ₯Ίβ€οΈ.

The journey was worth it, the lessons have made me stronger and a far much better and mature person than i could have been if i had graduated earlierπŸ˜‚.

I fought for this dream, physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, financially and it was worth it. I envisioned it but what happened on the 5th November,2021 at Government Complex was even more beautiful than i thought or imagined. Because God is true to his word, He says,"...Unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. (Ephesians 3:20 KJV)πŸ₯ΊπŸ™ŒπŸΎ"

Lord, Thank you, Allos Parakletos, my teacher, my helper, comforter, standby advocate, intercessor. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Thank you for your grace, favour, loving Kindness and Patience. I Couldn't have done any of this without.

A few years back Pastor told us we are a reading and a praying church and that we should go for it. Well, i am just one of the testimonies of that word. Thank you Pastor Sir (Pastor/Dr Choolwe M. Choolwe ) and Pastor Ma (Pastor Mwape K. C Choolwe ) for praying for me, leading me, blessing me, showing me, teaching me the way we should go and enpowering me with the word, which has kept my fire burning... Thank you for being such a great example to me and many of us.

Thank you Pastor Pst Charles Kalela and Pastor Thandi Charles , you know I can't tell my story without talking about you. And how you kept my dream of finishing school alive.

Pastor Hannah Mulongo , Mummy, your big heart has always had a place for me. Thank you for the early morning prayers at your house. And the continued calls just to check in this Daughter of yours. They have strengthened me on this journey.

Our Pastor/DCMO (Pastor Derek S Mudenda ) and Pastor Mary M Mudenda Maryq thank you for continually loving, praying and leading me throughout these years and the ones to come.

My family, everyone who played a hand in ensuring that this little orphan went to the best schools they could afford and ensured i stayed focused over the years. Aunties, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters, Nieces and Nephews (Those little angels just have a way of uplifting my spirit when they call❀). I am grateful to you all. Surely there's nothing like family and God orchestrated it for a reason. I have the best family in the world. I love you all
(I will mention names later on as i finish writing this book)LolπŸ˜‚

My employers Forest Rangers Footbal Club, thank you for believing i could execute the job as i pursued my dreams before i had the paper to show i qualified to do what i am doing. You defended me when people asked why i was working without the required qualification. Thank you for your Patience, thank you for believing in me thank you for giving me the time needed over the years to make this happen. (Now boss, i need a new contract with a ka raise filya, as a Degree Holder neh, lolπŸ˜‚πŸ€£.)

My mother, Cecilia Katebe , i remember watching you juggle between work and school at the same time taking care of me, my brother and my cousins as well as several other family members. You are strong, i get that from you. You're intelligent, i get that from you, You are kind and loving yet tough when you need to be, i get that from you too. Stylish, that too but it's more of AndrewπŸ˜‚. I can't compete with your swag you twoπŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ. You have always had your priorities right and i can only but get mine in line. I love you so much Mummy. Thank you for giving me a home in your heart. Thank you for filling a void no one else could. I love you so much mummy πŸ₯Ί and making you proud by getting my first degree, fills me with so much joy. You deserve to see the fruits of your hard work pay off. (P.S i hope my english in this speech is correct, because if it isn't, i know I'll receive a call from you correcting meπŸ€£πŸ˜‚. You're the best Mummy❀️)

My friends/Big sisters, Ntuntu, Oli, Bestie, G. You set the bar too high i just had to push myself to qualify to be part of the clique. You girls are beautiful, intelligent, Kind, giving, loving, strong, God-fearing and hard working. They say if you hang around 4 millionaires, you will be the 5th one, well i am the 5 graduate. Thank you for pushing me to follow my dreams. You girls are AMAZING, God knew I needed you on this journey.

Bwalya, Lolo and Patience thank you for your continued support, patience, encouragement, advise correction, love and kindness over the years. To my many other friends around the world thank you for the lesson, love abd laugher we have shared through out the years. You will always be a part of my success story.

On to the next one this is just the beginning of your many success stories. GOD'S GOT YOU!πŸ’ͺπŸΎπŸ™ŒπŸΎβ€οΈ

Never let struggle define our destiny, but let hard-work determine it"Evelyn Msoni

24 year year old Evelyn Msoni expresses her determination to open more eyes to vulnerable young people that think can't make it in life, during an interview with Girl Empowerment Alliance for change she narrets"I have really faced a number of challenges that made me feel like giving up,but I have persevered and and made use of my struggle that has made me learn that life will give you a lot of challenges that you would think of giving up but you have to keep fighting..

Having completed her secondary school in 2015 at chibombo secondary school she stayed home for a good two years and by the grace of God she was enrolled in school of clinical medicine under a diploma program at Eden university,,she further explained "my Journey was not so rough not so good I could have challenges in paying my fees, rentals and upkeep my mom could do almost everything just to see me through, she burned charcoal, sold popcorns, fritters ,salaula etc had people who helped through with whatever they had (aunt from UK) even family and friends helped me out but I thought I should not take advantage of that,so I decided why not do something that would also contribute toward my school and I had to start molding pan bricks hey kind of funny right but yes I had to get in the mud it was hard I tell you but I pushed through because I really wanted to graduate become someone and help out my family and siblings. Here I am a happy confirmed clinician.

I believe from this story my great Inspiration are my best great supporters my mum in particular and other people but my Encouragement to other young girls in school is try to find something that will contribute to your complexion of your Journey when you have trouble with school try venture into business it will be hard in the beginning but eventually it will be part of you and you save yourself from dropping out.Life a rough Journey nothin is easy about it strive hard and eventually you will Excel.

On today’s What’s Your Story!

I am scientist by training currently working in Johannesburg as a researcher in the nanotechnology sector. My PhD research was on development of biosensors for detection of food toxins.

Farming for me started as a hobby and food security, especially in Africa, should be a priority. Now that we are facing climate change, we can't continue farming using traditional methods. Where traditional methods are failing us, we need to be willing to adapt new technologies, though cost might sometimes be a hindering factor. However, if we put our minds to it, we can come up with cheaper, but effective solutions.
A friend introduced me to Jaco who rents out 30 x 9 m greenhouse tunnels in Kempton Park. These are not advanced, temperature regulated, greenhouses but they provide shelter and protect plants from birds and insects. I regard them as outdoor laboratories, for plants. In June, I decided to take up a vegetable farming project as I wanted to learn how to use a greenhouse tunmel. I was adviced to plant leafy crops in winter. Ideally, I should have planted high value crops, but I settled for vegetables I was familiar with. I planted repu seeds from Zambia. They were taking long to grow but I went ahead and planted them in one of the seven beds that had been prepared. I bought spinach and lettuce seedlings and planted them in the remaining beds. Ideally, I should have harvested within 6 to 8 weeks, but because the cold weather, I only started harvesting in week 11.

I check on the plants as often as I can, especially on weekends when I am not at work. Jaco advices me on what organic fertiliser and pesticides to apply. I was impressed when he adviced me to use a smart fertilizer and taught me fertigation (use of fertilizer in an irrigation system). Smart fertilizers was something we had discussed in our nanotechnology research.

I have a part time gardner who maintains the tunnel and also assists me in harvesting the produce. Marketing and selling in bulk has been a challenge. The middle man wants to buy them at a give away price so that they too can make a profit. I now sell them directly to the consumer. It takes time reaching a lot of people at once. I use my weekend to harvest and make deliveries. The Zambian community in Johannesburg love repu. I have a standing order to supply some friends every weekend. I wish I had planted more of it. My colleagues at work are more familiar with spinach and lettuce which they now buy for me.

The whole journey has been a learning process that I have enjoyed. I do get stressed at times when I harvest too much and I am not sure if it will all be bought while it's fresh. I am grateful for the support I have been receiving from friends and colleagues. I hope that I will one day farm on a commercial scale and contribute to our food security!

37 YEAR YOUNG LADY ALSO VENTURES INTO VEGETABLES FARMING TO EMPOWER VULNERABLE WOMEN IN HER COMMUNITY

She writes my Name is Chileshe Muchindika Ngwane aged 37, married with 3 kids. I have 15 years work experience in an HR environment. I am currently self employed. I resigned from my job as HR Manager in March 2021. I hold a degree in Human Resource Management from Copperbelt University.

I have always loved farming and in my quest to build up on my passion and raise extra income for our family. We first bought a farm in Chisamba area in 2016 were had put cattles, goats and maize farming. Sold our cattles in 2018 after the out break of foot and mouth disease and remained with goats only. In 2020 we started pig farming so that it will supplement in our meat processing. We are still growing rain feed maize and I also want to expand on village chicken farming

In Lusaka, we are currently raising broiler chickens and we do vegetables. My goal is to supply to ladies from surrounding areas so that they can sustain there lives. It gives me joy to see that I can do something to help my fellow ladies.

In 2020 the need to start food processing arose as we decided to open a Ndiyo Centre in Chirundu. In June 2020 we attended a training for meat processing and our journey for Amakwataz Meat Products was born. In July this year we opened another outlet along Chawama road at Old Tai City.

Today we make Beef Sausages, Boerewors, Hungarian, Chapolata, Chicken Sausages and Mince. Our products are premium. We want to provide quality products to everyone regardless of there status in society. Our first target market has been Chirundu.

Our vision is to be a household name in Chirundu and sorrounding area as we move to other towns.

Our goal for 2021 is to brand our products and increase our production as we want to supply to more people.

Every journey starts with one step.

Start with what you have, your passion.

FOR GRADUATESπŸŽ“πŸŽ“πŸŽ“πŸŽ“

My first job as a graduate, working as Grants Finance Officer for ECR after job hunting for several months and finally a break through came my way. The year was 2014.

I remember after graduating from The Copperbelt University, I went back to my small home town where I come from.

I started applying for jobs online and through mail services. After staying there for a few months, nothing was happening. While on the other side, I could see my close friends based in the Capital City getting jobs faster than the speed of light πŸ˜‚.

I finally made a decision to leave my small town and go the capital city, Lusaka and job hunt. I had nothing with me, dry bank account and empty wallet.

I asked a close friend who was my senior and leader back in school if I could squat at his house of which he agreed to allow me in. I immediately moved to Lusaka to search for opportunities.

When I reached Lusaka, the first thing I did, bought a ream of plain papers, envelopes and pens. Secondly, I mapped out companies/organisations I wanted to work for, went on their websites read about them and then started preparing my career marketing documents (CVs+Cover Letters).

When I was done with the exercise, I employed myself as a job seeker and started dropping my applications physically in different organisations of interest.

One day, I met a certain lady Ms Precious Soko (R.I.P) by the mall while I was getting myself some water from pick n pay. I knew her from the organization I was working from as an Intern. We greeted each other with joy after a long time.

She asked me what I was doing whether still in school or working...I told her point blank that I was a jobless graduate and I was slowly burning πŸ₯΅ out from the job hunting process.

She asked me if I could prepare a CV and take it to her. But I was already employment ready πŸ˜…. I just opened my bag and took a backup CV I had prepared and gave it to her.

Within a few days, she called me that the Finance Director and Program Manager wanted to meet me. We met in the morning, had a long conversation and by the time we were done, I got the Job as a Grants Finance Officer working on the World Vision and USAID Projects.

On the other hand, I also started receiving call backs in the places I was dropping my applications. I was spoiled for choices with different offers I was receiving. It was harvest time after laboring for so many months in a dry spell.

Moral of the Story

Sometimes you have to leave your space of comfort to make things happen. Apply new strategies, meet new people and do the unusual to get different results. Don't be scared to knock on the doors of opportunities. Some will be slummed right in your face.. Don't Give Up. Continue pursuing until you find that open and welcoming door to your greatness.

I love this scripture: Galatians 6:9, ESV: "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."

Your due season is coming!

MY JOURNEY AS AN ENTREPRENEUR

I never set out to do business but I was born and raised by a Lozi woman who insisted I never make excuses in life. She demanded two things from all her 10 children, going to church and going to school, those two were not negotiable. She seemingly added a third demand on me such that as young as 13 to 15 years old I was responsible for going to sell her chickens at the market. She even did some cross border trading where I was travelling between Zambia and Zimbabwe to bring merchandise for her business.

My father, a Shona man from Zimbabwe, would always say keep an open mind. He would say I know you are educated but should life demand that you sit by the road side selling products to feed yourself, do it because there is dignity in that too. My father has spent most of his life as a self employed building contractor.

So, when I got to University of Zambia in 1997 i decided to start buying shares on the newly established Lusaka Stock Exchange using a portion of my meal allowance. I was influenced by Chibamba Kanyama through his Finance Bank sponsored show on ZNBC called Time for Business. I traded on the stock market for over six year. When I got to medical school I started a trading business. I found a farmer who agreed to deliver 40 trays of eggs to my room every week and he did that. I sold the eggs to restaurants around UTH and students. I did the eggs business for 2 years.

While in medical school I liquidated my stocks and part of the money I made from eggs and bought my first car. That marked the beginning of my transport business. I even registered a company called Cubit Zambia Limited, you can search for it online. My taxis grew up to about eleven vehicles on the road. After experiencing some challenges I sold all the vehicles and went into car rental which Cubit Zambia is still doing to this day.

Cubit Zambia Ltd has since diversified its portfolio into insurance through its subsidiary called Cubit Insurance Brokers Ltd. More recently we have established Carepeak Specialist Clinic, a healthcare business that aims to provide affordable specialised medical services to the Zambian public.

My Entrepreneurial journey has not been without challenges. I have lost money and I also have a long string of failed projects. In all this I have learnt that in business you need discipline more than any other skill.

George McLaurin, the first black man admitted to the University of Oklahoma in 1948, was forced to sit in a corner far from his white classmates.

But his name remains on the honor roll as one of the three best students of the university. These are his words: "Some colleagues would look at me like I was an animal, no one would give me a word, the teachers seemed like they were not even there for me, nor did they always take my questions when I asked. But I devoted myself so much that afterwards, they began to look for me to give them explanations and to clear their questions."

Lesson: Forcing yourself to be accepted by people is a waste of time. Just focus and add value to yourself and people shall come seeking your help...

25 YEAR OLD STUDENT WINS HER CASH MONEY TO CHANGE HER COMMUNITY THROUGH VARIOUS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS πŸ’ͺ❀️😍

"Change must be everyone's priority.” Mwiza Muwowo

25 year old Mwiza Muwowo is a medical student from Copperbelt University who won a cash prize of K60,000 from CoderBunnyz during an online pitch fest called BossBizz.
In an interview with Girl Empowerment Alliance for change, she narrates: β€œI’m always this innovative and I love to try new things other than school. I love to do voluntary work in the fields of health and education and I am currently a 2021 HERZ Ambassador.
You might say I think too much but that thinking helps me find modern solutions to modern problems πŸ˜‚
I delight myself in crossword puzzles, board games, books (a typical nerd πŸ˜‚) just to jumpstart my mind.

How I managed to win this K60,000- Natasha Blue Sichula introduced me to BossBizz and sent a link for me to take part in BossBizz 3.0. At that time, I didn’t have a business model that I wanted to pitch during the pitch fest. After sharing the idea with my now partner, we began to work towards it and thought of a way to generate extra income and that’s how we came up with Umni Solutions. Umni is a Russian word that means smart. Smart solutions. Our project is targeted at ensuring food security by growing fish and vegetables, referred to as aquaponics, on minimal land and using minimal resources all the while maximizing usage as compared to conventional farming.

I would love to encourage young girls to always take up opportunities even when they think they are not qualified, it’s worth trying. I never imagined venturing into aquaponics, let alone any business but here we are πŸ˜„
