Kasama Magistrate jails Kambwili for 5 months imprisonment

Opposition Patriotic Front (PF) member of the Central Committee, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili, has been sentenced to five months imprisonment for hate speech.

This is in a case where he was charged with the offence of expressing hatred and ridicule of the people of Southern Province based on tribe and place of origin.

Kambwili, 54, of house number 9, Wisteria Avenue, Luanshya, appeared before Kasama Resident Magistrate, Samson Mumba for Judgement.

Kambwili is expected to appeal both the conviction and the sentence.

Enoch Mwepu rushed to UTH after collapsing!

Zambian soccer star and former Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu this morning experienced a suspected heart attack and fell off the car he was driving.

The 24-year-old, who was last October forced to retire from active soccer after being diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition, was picked by a good Samaritan who rushed him to the hospital.

Before the soccer star was seen falling off his car, the automobile was earlier swerving on Great North Road, an indication that the driver was in panic.

A source close to the story said the incident happened when Mwepu was driving towards Kabangwe when he experienced the discomfort.

"Mwepu was driving along Great North Road near Kabangwe area, he was heading out of town.

"So, its like he started having obviously heart issues. When he started having cardiac arrest. He started driving zig zag, so, the vehicle that was just driving behind him, when they saw kuti sa enza mushe uyu muntu(his not driving safely).

"Then he eventually parked, and came out of the vehicle and fell," the source said.

A man who was driving behind Mwepu picked him up and started driving toward Mums Hospital.

"He started driving to the hospital, Mums. So, he called Mums to say I've got a patient, its like he had a cardiac arrest and he needs attention.

"Mums(staffers) advised to say just take him to UTH because we don't have capacity. But he said no, that's the nearest hospital am bringing him there," the informer said.

He was quickly seen by a doctor at Mums Hospital who stabilized him.

It was discover that he suffered a shock from his pacemaker, a device used to control an irregular heart rhythm. It has flexible insulated wires placed in one or chambers of the heart.

"So, what came out is that his got a ka peace maker that i think was put in the heart which helps him, now it seems probably it developed a fault or it started misbehaving so it's like it started giving him electric shocks to the heart, so. That doctor said its not really a cardiac arrest but it's like more of fear. Because of the electric shock," the source said.

"As of now, they have taken him to UTH.
They have taken him to the heart hospital at UTH. RTSA and police quickly moved in and escorted the patient to the hospital, UTH".

Last October, Mwepu, was forced to retire at the age of 24 as he has been diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition.

The Brighton and Zambia midfielder announced on as he hasn’t played for the Seagulls since September.
Per the statement released by the Premier League club, Mwepu fell ill on a flight to Mali last September as he was away on international duty with Zambia.

Subsequent tests discovered a hereditary heart condition which compelled Mwepu to retire from the game.

Brighton confirmed: “The condition, which can worsen over time, would put Enock at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event, if he were to continue playing competitive football.” Part of the statement read.

Nicknamed ‘The Computer’ for his superb positional sense in midfield, Mwepu signed for Brighton from RB Salzburg in the summer of 2021.

He has made 27 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring three goals, one of which was a memorable strike at Anfield against Liverpool in October 2021.

RWANDA WILL NOT ACCEPT DR CONGO REFUGEES - KAGAME

(BBC) Rwandan President Paul Kagame says his country will no longer offer refuge to people fleeing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Decades of instability in the east of the country have forced scores of refugees across the border into Rwanda.

"This is not Rwanda's problem," said Mr Kagame, adding: "I am refusing that Rwanda should carry this burden."

He said the rest of the world had completely missed the point when it came to eastern DR Congo.

The real threat to security - in his view - is what he describes as the remnants of Hutu extremist forces who tried to wipe out his Tutsi ethnic group in the 1994 genocide.

Rwanda is being accused of backing the M23 rebel group - which the country has always denied.

The rebel group has captured swathes of territory in recent months, sending tens of thousands of refugees across the border into Rwanda.

WIFE BEATS HUSBAND TO DEATH 👇👇

January 8, 2023 - A 42-year-old man of Lusaka's Mtendere Compound died after he was beaten by his wife.

The wife aged 34, only identified as Mable Banda is alleged to have beaten her husband while in the Company of two other persons yet to be identified.

Police initial investigations revealed that the incident which happened after a marital dispute occurred on January 6, 2023 between 21:00 hours and 23:00 hours.

The matter was reported to Police by the sister to the deceased of Kalingalinga compound on January 7, 2023 around 19:30 hours.

The deceased was identified as Golden Lunda of unknown house number in Mtendere Compound.

The deceased is reported to have been admited to Mtendere Clinic where he was receiving treatment and was later transferred to the University Teaching Hospitals where he died from.

The suspect is currently detained in Police custody and investigations to find other accomplices have been instituted.

Court jails Mpali actor for contempt

Popular Zambian actor Shazzy Phiri who plays the role of Hambe Nguzu in the widely-watched telenovela, Mpali, yesterday treated court goers at the Lusaka Magistrates' Court to some thrilling unscripted real life drama as he bolted out of a court room after he was sentenced to 14 days in prison for contempt of court.

Hambe's troubles stem from his well-intentioned good Samaritan act of signing a police bond for his delinquent brother, Costa Phiri, who is accused of obtaining money by false pretences, vanished soon after being released from Kabwata Police Station custody.

After several failed court appearances by Costa, the court summoned the actor, alongside his other brother Stephen Phiri, also a surety. to go and explain why they had not been presenting their criminallly accused sibling before court.

In his response, Hambe claimed he had been busy memorising lines from Frank Sibbuku's script of the Zambezi Magic TV aired drama series, Mpali.

Finding his explanation unsatisfactory, the court decided to give the actor and his two brothers, who included the accused, a two week free vacation in the Lusaka Correctional Facility to share sleeping quarters with defilers, murderers and aggravated robbers.

But Hambe was not prepared to miss a filming session and decided to give it a run.

The actor jumped out of the dock and took to his heels and put up a plausible challenge to Ben Lombe's Christmas marathon at Kabwata Police Station.

Unfortunate for Phiri, Lemmy Kajoba's men stationed within the Lusaka Magistrates' Court matched his running prowess and caught up with him before he even got far.

Upon apprehension, the panting Hambe, drenched in sweat, marched and squeezed through the tiny entrance of Lusaka Central Correctional Facility where he will be for two weeks, if be does not fork out a K10, 000 he committed to pay if his brother does not appear before court
