PF still intact in Mpongwe-Malikumu

By staff Reporter

Patriotic Front Copperbelt Deputy Information and Publicity Secretary Dickson Malikumu says the PF in Mpongwe is still intact despite the defection of Emmanuel Kasambo who until recently was Patriotic Front (PF) Mpongwe Constituency chairperson.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Mpongwe, Malikumu said those defecting to the UPND with Kasambo are only being used for his political survival.
He said Kasambo has gone to UPND only to enrich himself.

“It is the PF that has made Kasambo who he is today, when he saw that there was nothing in UPND at first, he came to join us. I remember how he came and the meetings we had in Ibenga before he joined us,” said Malikumu.
He reiterated that there was nothing in UPND and that, as a party in government, the UPND has failed to pay council workers in Mpongwe for four months.
“Some people who supplied maize to FRA are still not paid, so what is there in UPND,” he asked. He warned that Kasambo’s defection to the UPND was only the beginning of deeper confusions in the party.
Over thew weekend, Kasambo, who has been the main sponsor of the Patriotic Front in Mpongwe with a huge number of other members who included former member of parliament Gabrial Namulambe defected to the UPND government.

‎Kasambo pledges to defend President Hichilema as he reconciles with MP Ngowani

‎By Veronica Bwalya

‎ Former Patriotic Front (PF) Mpongwe Constituency Chairman Emmanuel Kasambo has pledged to defend President Hakainde Hichilema and support his vision for Zambia.

Kasambo has also promised to work with area member of Parliament Gregory Ngowani in order to foster development in Mpongwe in what seems to be a sign of reconciliation between the two.
‎Officially announcing his resignation from the Patriotic Party (PF) to join the UPND, Kasambo said he has defected with the whole PF executive in Mpongwe.

‎"I'm independent in my decisions, and joining UPND is an objective decision," he said.
‎Highlighting his desire to see development in Mpongwe, Kasambo promised to work with Mpongwe Member Parliament (MP) Gregory Ngowani and to end "attacks" but focus on progress.

‎Meanwhile, Ngowani welcomed Kasambo, saying, "Attacks through radio stations are a thing of the past."
‎Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo added, "Those who started UPND earlier and those who joined today are the same, you are all UPND." he said

And NATASHA MUMBA reports that an estimated 10,000 Patriotic Front (PF) members in Mpongwe District have defected and joined the ruling party, United Party for National Development (UPND).
‎The defectors were led by former PF Mpongwe Constituency chairman Emmanuel Kasambo who also contested for the Mpongwe Parliamentary seat in 2021 general election.

‎Speaking during the rally Sunday, Kasambo cited free education policy, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), mass recruitment of civil servants among others as some of the reasons he is joining the ruling party.
‎And Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo who is also Copperbelt Provincial UPND chairman said the mass defection is a testament that President Hakainde Hichilema means well for the Zambian people.

‎Matambo said the move is a clear indication that the UPND party manifesto is resonating with the people at different levels across the region and country as a whole.

‎He has since urged the UPND members in the province to welcome the new members and work as a team for the sake of development.
‎And former Mpongwe Member of Parliament Gabriel Namulambe was among the people that defected to UPND. Namulambe said he has no intentions of contesting for elections in Mpongwe

Mpongwe Town Council workers threaten to down tools over Unpaid wages.

‎By Veronica Bwalya

‎Workers at Mpongwe Town Council have embarked on a go slow due to the council’s failure to pay their dues for four months.
‎Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union (ZULAWU) Mpongwe branch chairperson Davie Chilembo says lack of salary payment is affecting their livelihoods and motivation to work.

‎According to Chilembo, the council's local revenues are insufficient to pay the workers and has since called on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to intervene.

"How are we going to survive? How are we going to work? We're not motivated," Chilembo complained.
‎Another worker who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimization, highlighted the challenges workers are facing in meeting their obligations such paying house rentals, loan and buying of farming inputs.

"Even when you come to work, you are just coming for the sake of coming, some of our friends are facing evictions" she said.

‎When contacted for a comment Mpongwe Town Council Public Relations Officer Cynthia Mutalange's phone went unanswered by press time.
