HUNGRY HYENA KILLS A 10 YEAR OLD BOY IN PETAUKE

By: Christopher Banda

A hungry hyena has attacked and killed a 10-year old boy of Maloba Village in Chieftainess Mwanjabantu’s area of Petauke district.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywali says that the boy identified as Leonard Banda aged 10 years was in the company of four other boys, the oldest being 12-years old herding Cattle when a hyena attacked and killed him.

Mr Liwali explains that the boys met the hyena within the bush which they thought was just a dog but later started chasing after them and killed one while the other four managed to run away and reported the matter to the elders in the village.

He said that a team of villagers who went to rescue the boy found that the hyena had already killed the victim and was actually eating him.
Mr Liywali reveals that the hyena also attacked one of the villagers Roundas Tembo who approached the hyena in trying to rescue the boy as it was protecting its kill.

The Eastern Province Police Chief says that police visited the scene and upon physical inspection discovered that the victim had his face and belly partially eaten, exposing the intestines.

He said wildlife officers were engaged and managed to crop the hyena which killed the boy adding that the relatives to the deceased have been advised to bury since there was no foul play.

KALABO MAN DEFILES 9-YEAR-OLD NIECE

A Kalabo Magistrate court has heard that a 33 year old fisherman of Kalabo District facing one count of defilement is actually an uncle to the defiled girl.

ZANIS reports that mother to the nine-year old girl testified that on the material day around 13:00 hours, her daughter went out to play.

The mother recounted that she did not notice anything when her daughter came back until the following day.

“The following day I noticed that my daughter was limping. I checked her private parts and discovered her private parts were bruised and smeared with a discharge. After asking her, she disclosed that Suuba Munalula had carnal knowledge with her,” she told the court.

The witness further testified that she took the daughter to the rural health centre for assessment before being referred to Kalabo District Hospital for medical examinations while the suspect was apprehended by a police officer from the nearest police post where the matter was reported.

This is in a matter where the said Suuba Munalula appeared before Kalabo Subordinate Court Magistrate Eric Mush*tu for trial.

The accused is alleged to have had carnal knowledge of a girl below the age of 16 years contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia as read with the Amendment Act No. 15 of 2005.

Particulars of the offence are that on March 20, 2023, the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge of the nine year old girl.

The accused remains in lawful custody while trial continues.

Earlier during trial, the girl testified before the court how the alleged defiler, Suuba Munalula, threatened her with death if she disclosed the ordeal.

She testified that the suspect invited her to his home while everyone was away and had carnal knowledge of her.

“He pulled me into a spare room and covered my mouth with a piece of cloth so that I could not scream for help. He threatened to kill me if I ever disclosed the matter to my mother. So I obliged and kept quiet after the act,” she told the court.

The girl said she only opened up to her mother the following day after her mother established that she was facing discomfort and her private parts bruised.

A RIOT ERRUPTS AFTER A POACHER IS SHOT DEAD IN MAZABUKA

He narrates that seven poachers and two security officers exchanged gun fire, during which a poacher was shot dead and was found with an unlicensed gun and two rounds of ammunition.

He observes that among the damaged properties are four tractors, solar panels, vehicles and a water tank.

Chaatila adds that the irate residents also looted work equipment.

The deceased has been identified as Dala Halwiindi and the remains have been deposited in Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary.

And Southern Province Police Commissioner Paul Achiumi confirmed the development but could not give more information.

KAFUE HOOK BRIDGE ALONG THE MONGU-LUSAKA ROAD READY FOR COMMISSIONING.

INFRASTRUCTURE MINISTER WRITES👇👇

Fellow citizens, one of the major infrastructure projects the New Dawn administration focused on immediately after assuming office is the Kafue Hook Bridge on the Kafue River in the Kafue National Park, along the Mongu-Lusaka road.

After months of dedicated work and constant monitoring, we are glad to announce that the Kafue Hook Bridge, which has been out of use for years, is ready for commissioning.

The commissioning of the Kafue Hook Bridge will come as a sigh of relief to our people who use the Mongu-Lusaka road, since the bailey bridge that was constructed in place of the main bridge can no longer sustain the increased volumes of traffic on that road. You will be updated.

Pope Francis suggests reviewing Catholic Church’s vow of celibacy for priests.

The Catholic Church is open to reviewing its thousand-year-old practice of celibacy, Pope Francis has suggested.

He said the ban was only 'temporary' and there was also 'no contradiction' for a priest to marry.

Celibacy was made a requirement by the Catholic Church in the 11th-century for financial reasons, as clergy without children were more likely to leave their wealth to the church.

The Vatican enforces the rule among priests - but there are growing calls to end the ban.

It comes after Germany's Catholic Church voted for a resolution requesting that the Pope end the obligation for priests to be celibate.

In an interview with Argentine publication Infobae, Pope Francis, 86, said: 'There is no contradiction for a priest to marry. Celibacy in the western Church is a temporary prescription.

'It is not eternal like priestly ordination, which is for ever whether you like it or not. On the other hand, celibacy is a discipline.'

The Pope also cited the example of the Eastern Church - a branch of Catholicism which allows more leeway - and said: 'Everyone in the Eastern Church is married, or those who want to. Before ordination there is the choice to marry or to be celibate.'
