A 22-year-old woman of Munyama village in chief Hamaunduโ€™s area in Pemba district has been unlawfully wounded by her grandfather after she allegedly denied him s*x.

An axe is alleged to have been used in the act of inflicting the injuries on the woman.

Southern Province Police Commissioner, Alfred Nawa, has confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Pemba but did not reveal the name of the suspect.

Mr. Nawa said police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who is on the run.

Facts of the matter are that on June 9, 2022 at around 15 hours in Munyama village, the victim was sent by her grandfather to serve him water for drinking in his bedroom where he was.

It is alleged that after receiving the cup of water, the suspect ordered the victim to get onto the bed so that he could have carnal knowledge with her.

Mr. Nawa explained that after she refused, the suspect got an axe and hit the victim on the left side of the forehead, causing a cut.

He said the victim reported the matter to the police and alleged that it was the second time her grandfather was making such s*xual advances on her.

The victim stays with the same grandfather and a sibling.

More than 80 cases of monkey-pox have been confirmed in at least 12 countries.

BBC reports that the World Health Organization -WHO- says another 50 suspected cases are being investigated - without naming any countries - and warned that more cases are likely to be reported.

Infections have been confirmed in nine European countries, as well as the US, Canada and Australia.

Monkey-pox is most common in remote parts of Central and West Africa.

It is a rare viral infection which is usually mild and from which most people recover in a few weeks.

This is according to the UKs National health Service.

The virus does not spread easily between people and the risk to the wider public is said to be very low.

There is no specific vaccine for monkey-pox, but a smallpox jab offers 85 percent protection since the two viruses are quite similar.

So far, public health agencies in Europe have confirmed cases in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Sweden.

THE WHEEL OF JUSTICE WILL SURELY CATCH UP WITH THEM - HH

President Hakainde Hichilema writes;

Fellow citizens,

We understand the citizens' anger, frustration and their collective resolve to rid our society of the intolerable culture of corruption, especially among those that should be servants of the people.

Like drug trafficking, corruption is a scourge capable of destroying communities, increase inequality among our people, distort and exploit public investments and reduce public revenues.

The perpetrators of the vice may flaunt short lived victory, play the victim and mock the institutions of law and order. However the long arm of the law and the wheel of justice will surely catch up with them.

Corruption will be fought against, with everything that is legally at our disposal, vigorously, relentlessly and the lawbreakers will be brought to book.

Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia.

These are the press attaches ( First Secretaries for press) that President Hakainde Hichilema has so far appointed into foreign service. We understand others will be appointed in due course after vetting of course.

As can be seen, this list has qualified young Journalists drawn from across the country and from different media houses and backgrounds.

*NB: we are informed that Former ZANIS, Muvi TV, Prime TV and now Munali TV reporter KALANI Muchima refused the job offer from President Hakainde Hichilema when he offered him to serve the country in any country of his choice in the world. We are reliably informed that Mr Muchima wants to be appointed as ZNBC Director General as he says anything short of that amounts to an insult.

Our conclusion on the Journalists appointed below is that President Hakainde Hichilema is considering the youths who sacrificed a lot to put him into office and we hope that they will serve the country in those missions with dignity.

Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) Registrar Chief Executive Officer and Registrar, Bwembya Bwalya says the reintroduction of licentiate examinations is not meant to punish health practitioners.

Mr. Bwalya has also clarified that the examinations are also not meant to curtail the number of health practitioners, but merely meant to assess students whether they have the minimum competencies and skills to practice their profession.

Speaking during an interactive meeting with various ostakeholders in the health sector on the recently reintroduced Licensure Examinations, Mr. Bwalya says the council is aware of the protest by students against the reintroduction of these examinations, hence they will engage them so that they can appreciate the objective behind the reintroduction of the licentiate examinations.

Mr. Bwalya says the importance of licentiate examinations in enhancing quality and ensuring that only competent practitioners are allowed to practice should not be underestimated.

He says anyone who does not possess the minimum competencies and skills should not be allowed to practice as a health professional because they dent the image of the profession as well as posing a danger to the general public.

Speaking at the same event, Biomedical Union of Zambia President, Mutale Mubanga says the union is not against the reintroduction of licentiate examinations, but called for intensified sensitization so that there can be effective implementation.

Zambian peacekeeper adopts baby from CAR

Zambian army Captain Mwila Chansa has spoken of her battle to adopt a baby she first met while on deployment as a UN peacekeeper in the Central African Republic.

The baby girl's mother was pregnant with twins, but developed a complication and died after giving birth to the first baby in November 2020. The second child died before birth.

Captain Chansa visited Birao, near the border with Sudan and Chad, in March 2021 when she heard the story of the baby - who was by then under the care of a nurse in the Zambian camp.

She made a decision to adopt it, but the bureaucracy turned into a long and laborious process in navigating the countryโ€™s Islamic law.

"I went to Google, trying to look up how to adopt a child from CAR. All the information was about USAid and how easy it is for Americans generally to adopt children. But there was nothing in regards to a Zambian adopting a child there," she told the BBC.

The captain said her "deep conviction" saw her "fight tooth and nail" to "engage the powers that be until the baby was here [Zambia's capital, Lusaka]".

"It just reminds me so much of the story of the biblical Moses,โ€ she said.

โ€œAdopting a child is like falling in love. You see so many men or so many women but you only choose one."

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema heralded Captain Chansa for demonstrating humanity in her work.

The presidential approval invited more attention.

โ€œI woke up, my phone was buzzing. I was wondering what was going on?โ€ she said.

She has big ambitions for her baby daughter who she named Thabo.

โ€œI would wish for her to be the president of the Central African Republic. I say that without flinching,โ€ she said.

White SA student filmed urinating on black student's property

A white student in South Africa has been suspended from university after he was accused of urinating on the property of a black student at Stellenbosch University, the institution confirmed to BBC News on Monday.

The university has said the incident will be investigated and further action including expulsion and criminal charges may be taken, depending on the outcome of the investigation.

Scores of students protested at Stellenbosch University on Monday demanding swift action against the first-year student .

The university โ€“ like many on social media who have seen the widely circulated video โ€“ has said the incident appears to have been racially motivated.

In a statement, Stellenbosch University spokesperson Martin Viljoen said that the university "strongly condemns the destructive, hurtful and racist incidentโ€.

The victim is still in shock and trying to process what happened, the university has said.

According to local media reports, he was sleeping and awoke when he heard that someone was in his room.

In the video he is heard asking the white student why he is urinating on his belongings.

The incident has once again shone a spotlight on South Africaโ€™s struggles with racism โ€“ decades after the end of apartheid.
