FAZ MOURNS COPPER QUEENS STRIKER

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is saddened by the death of Copper Queens and Indeni Roses striker Norin Betani.

Betani died on Wednesday morning at the University Teaching Hospital after being diagnosed with suspected malaria.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga says the player reported to camp whilst unwell and was taken to the hospital for thorough examination on recommendation by team medics.

“We regret to announce the death of one of our female players Norin Betani who was in the provisional squad for the Ghana match. Betani was taken to the nearest hospital to the team camp which is Kanyama Level One hospital and FAZ engaged the family at every stage,” Kamanga says.
“The patient was referred to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) on Monday and was under medical care until her demise. FAZ secretariat staff, family members and her club (Indeni Roses) worked closely during the player’s hospitalization.”
Kamanga says details of the funeral will be shared in due course.

“For now we urge everyone in the football family to mourn the deceased with dignity and respect the full privacy that medical situations sometimes demand,” he says.
The funeral is being held in Garden House (Lusaka) at her parents’ house.

Lumwana Mine Sacks 20 Workers For Reporting Drunk
at work.
Twenty workers were last year dismissed at Barrick Lumwana Copper Mine in Kalumbila District for reporting for duty drunk.

Barrick Lumwana Mine has a Zero alcohol tolerance policy on the mine site and any employee that tests positive for alcohol is instantly dismissed.

Mine Human Resource Manager KASONDE MUSONDA told ZNBC News that the twenty were dismissed last year between January and December of 2023.

And Lumwana Mine Occupational Health and Safety Manager SAMUEL CHILESHE said of the twenty that were dismissed, five were direct employees of Barrick Lumwana Mine while fifteen were employees from contractors.

Mr. CHILESHE said the mine is facing compliance challenges among employees of mine contractors as they are the ones that usually do not abide by the zero alcohol policy set by the mine.

Meanwhile, Lumwana Sustainability Manager CHRISTOPHER MUKALA said the mine is focusing on prioritizing safety through the journey to zero program to ensure that no accidents are recorded on the mine site.

Cholera cases in Solwezi district have continued to rise, a situation that has caused worries to many people around Solwezi.

Solwezi District Health Director Doctor Bumba Bubala says currently Solwezi District is seating on 61 suspected cases of cholera and patients are being admitted at Solwezi urban cholera treatment center.

Dr. Bubala said that the number has risen from 44 cases to 61 with most of the cases coming from kazomba, and messengers compounds.

North Western reports that after one week kazomba has recorded an increase of cholera cases to 22 cases, messengers 12, kimasala 8, urban 2, kyawama 4, sandan’gombe 1 and highland compound 1 Case of cholera.

The DHD however mentioned that the oldest victim is a male aged 87 years old and a female 74 years and 2 pregnant women’s are all admitted in cholera center.

Last week Friday Solwezi recorded 44 cases that saw the ministry of health closing down Solwezi urban clinic

Dr. Bubala further added that her office has started going round in churches to sensitize the public about hygiene and how people can protect themselves from contracting cholera.

Solwezi Urban Clinic in Solwezi district has been Closed from the public to access health care services.

Speaking during the media briefing Solwezi district health director Doctor Buumba Bubala says health facility has been closed due to the high number of Cholera cases being recorded in Solwezi.

Dr.Bubala said that Solwezi District has recorded 44 cases of Cholera and 24 people are still admitted in Solwezi cholera center.

She said that kazomba has become a hotspot with high number of Cholera with 10 Cases, Messenger compound 09 Cases, Kyawama compound 3 Cases while wisdom compound has recorded 2 cases among other communities.

The District Health Director - DHD has however stated that the Closure of Urban Clinic has been neccestated by the high number of Cholera being recorded and also urban being the cholera treatment center.

Dr. Mubala further said that the facility will only be attending to Maternal child health McH, maternity and delivery cases, GBV, ART/HIV and TB Patients .
She has advised members of the public to access health services from the nearby clinics such as Prison's, Kazomba, Zambia Kimasala and other clinics around Solwezi.

And provincial public health specialist Mr. Kizito Sampa said that the province has recorded 69 Cases of Cholera.
Mr. Sampa said that the province has also recorded Four brought in dead BID cases of Cholera.

FAZ -NWP TO TAKE PART IN ALL STAR’S VS THE REST FOR U17 GIRLS AS PART OF PREPS FOR WC QUALIFIERS
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) North Western Province is set to take part in the all-star’s vs the rest for U17 girls in Lusaka.
The technical expert lead by Coach Eunice Phiri who is the head coach for trident queens .FC and lufunda chinyama coach from Kansanshi queens .FC have selected 18 players from the provincial teams to compete against the provisional under-17 national team.
The team has since left for Lusaka in readiness to compete with other provinces across the country on a round robin basis.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) will hold an under-17 woman All Stars versus The Rest contest as part of strengthening the squad for the Chile 2024 World Cup qualifiers squad.
Zambia will play Tanzania in back-to-back second round qualifiers in February for the Chile 2024 FIFA Women World Cup.
Following the graduation of some players to the under 20 Women’s National Team who are currently not eligible to play in the Under-17 team the technical bench will be reorganizing the team.
All 10 provinces will send a team to Lusaka where they will compete on a round robin basis.
The technical experts will then select 22 players from the provincial teams to compete against the provisional under-17 national team.
Players will converge in Lusaka on January 3 with the highlight of the trials being the All Stars versus The Rest match on January 6.
