PRAYER FOR LEADERS

Lord,
you said that anyone who wants to be a leader must learn to be everybody's servant. I find that hard to accept.

Sometimes I would like to have a mansion and a full staff of assistants, to be a Champion. At such times, I don't want to be anyone's servant.

Teach me
why you became everyone's servant.

Teach me
why the truly great leaders, those who accomplished the greatest good, were men and women who knew that to lead is to serve.

Motivate me
to begin leading those I meet daily by discovering their needs and striving to help them live up to their potential,
Amen.

Theme of the Sunday:

THE PROPHET: A BOTHERSOME MAN.

The gospel tells us that we must not be afraid of division caused by the word of God, which comes from the reaction of the “old world” that is trying desperately to remain alive. The first reading gives the example of Jeremiah, a timid, sensible man whom God entrusts with proclaiming a hard message that goes against the wishes of the king and of the army. He was persecuted, but God was at his side and freed him. Anybody who becomes a true announcer of the word of God will be persecuted too. The second reading invites us all to be strong and to do our best to overcome our difficulties, like athletes in a race.

On behalf of Youth Deanery Team. I want to thank you for attending mid year council meeting. May God bless you.
Thank you St. Andrews for hosting us.

Ireneas TK Kasela,
Dean Youth Chairperson!

Tonight I want to encourage my fellow Youths in our Deanery through answering this question, "What is the lay Vocation?"

According to the CCC it says, "The LAITY are sent to engage in society so that the kingdom of God ca n grow among men. [897-913, 940-943].

A lay person is not a second-class Christian, for he shares in the priestly ministry of Christ (the universal priesthood). He sees to it that the people in his walk of life (in school, family and work) come to know the Gospel and learn to love Christ. Through his faith he leaves a mark on society, business, and politics. He supports the life of the Church, for instance, by becoming a lector or an extraordinary minister, by volunteering as a group leader, or by serving on church committees and councils (for example, the parish council or the board of directors of an institution). Young people especially should give serious thought to the question of what place God might want them to have in the Church.

01/07/2022

The mid year council meeting will take place on 10th July, 2022 at St. Andrews, Commando Parish. All leaders are encouraged to attend the 07:30hrs Mass at St. Andrews before the meeting. Reports should be signed.
Thanks very much.

01/07/2022

-FIRST READING-

A reading from the Book of Amos (Amos 3:1-8, 4:11-12)

Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O sons of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. “Do two walk together, unless they have made an appointment? Does a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from his den, if he has taken nothing? Does a bird fall in a snare on the earth, when there is no trap for it? Does a snare spring up from the ground when it has taken nothing? Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does evil befall a city, unless the Lord has done it? Surely the Lord God does nothing, without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets. The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken; who can but prophesy? “I overthrew some of you, as when God overthrew S***m and Gomorrah, and you were as a brand plucked out of the burning; yet you did not return to me,” says the Lord. “Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 5:5-6, 7, 8 (R. 9)

R/. Lead me, Lord, in your justice.

You are no God who delights in evil;

No sinner is your guest.

The boastful shall not stand their ground

before your eyes. R/.

All who do evil you despise;

All who lie you destroy.

The deceitful and those who shed blood,

The Lord detests. R/.

R/. Lead me, Lord, in your justice.

Yet through the greatness of your merciful love,

I enter your house.

I bow down before your holy temple,

In awe of you. R/.

ALLELUIA Psalm 130:5

Alleluia. I wait for the Lord, in his word I hope. Alleluia.

-GOSPEL-

“He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Matthew 8:23-27)

At that time: when Jesus got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O men of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Today’s Reflection

“It is I, do not be afraid” are the reassuring words of Jesus in the midst of fear and confusion. Though we may be entertaining doubts in our minds with regard to the presence of God and let our faith sleep, God will never sleep and abandon us to be destroyed. The prophet Isaiah reassures us thus: “See, the LORD’s hand is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear” (59:1). Those who are frightened amidst the storms and struggles of life are people of little faith who do not know the power of God working in them. The lesser the faith, the greater the fear. And so Jesus wants us to be people of greater faith that steadies the ship of our life knowing fully well that at the helm of our life is Jesus who loves and cares for us.

WHEN THE GAME IS OVER... WE SHALL ALL RETURN HOME.

📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖🤞🏼
A boy was sent by his father to urgently buy him food from a restaurant. On his way going, he was in a hurry because of the urgency of the assignment.

However, on his way back, he passed where his mates were playing football. He slowed down, began to watch the game, gradually slowing down until he finally stopped. He watched for a while and got carried away, he became interested, and indicated his interest in playing, he was invited.

He left the food in the care of some unknown people and entered the field. He forgot the assignment completely and played his heart out. He became the man of the match, dribbled opponents, created chances, scored goals and changed the face of the entire game.

When night came, the owner of the ball picked it up. It was time for everyone to go home; to go back to their parents, the game was over!

It now dawned on the boy after everyone had left that he had actually been sent to buy food by his hungry father. He went to where he kept the food, it had already been eaten by goats and dogs, "but I kept this food with some guys here a moment ago." He said.

He picked the plates, but was no longer happy, all the excitement of the game disappeared, the people clapping for him were all gone, the opponents he was playing against were all gone, the ball itself was gone, time was gone, those selling food were gone, he couldn't buy another!

Regrets took over him, he sluggishly walked home, with tears of sorrow and regrets whilst hiding in the dark.

When people saw him, they asked him why he was crying and hiding in the dark with empty plates! He had left with clean plates full of excitement, but returned with same empty plates, so dirty and stained !

When they asked him "Why he couldn't go home, he said his father will beat him". He knew the implications of a wasted time. So sad, too late.

Hear this: We have a home and a Father to return to at the end of life's journey when all is said and done.

Don't be distracted, don't rejoice when people are clapping for you while doing the wrong things, they won't be there when you are to give an account.

Avoid Distractions, we are sent here for an assignment, the Father is waiting for us, this ball we are busy playing, when night comes, the owner will pick it, the crowd will disappear, we'll be left alone to go back and give a report to our Maker. What will you tell Him ?

Think about it.

WHEN THE GAME IS OVER,.. WE SHALL ALL RETURN HOME.

Reflection

Howard Hendricks says, "Two things will mostly influence where you will be ten years from now: the books you read, and the friends you make." By far the most important friend you can have is the Lord Jesus. Though Jesus is the disciples' Lord and teacher, He still calls them His friends. To be a friend of Christ, we must love one another just as He loved us. We must also obey His commandments. The friends of Jesus are chosen by Him to bear fruit that lasts, as they depend upon Him through prayers. The friends of Christ are called to make their lives living Bibles. "Preach the good news always. If necessary, use words."

Pray
🙏🙏

Lord Jesus Christ, help us to have good friends in life especially having you has a first friend and also give us the knowledge of knowing your words.
