⚙️10 Most Common Tire Problems and How to Prevent Them:

Keeping your tires in good shape is crucial for a safe and smooth ride. Hooper's Tire Outlet is here to help you recognize and prevent the 10 most common tire problems and issues drivers face. By following our tips, you'll ensure the longevity of your tires and avoid any unexpected mishaps on the road.

✍️1. Uneven Tire Wear:

Uneven tire wear is one of the most common tire problems that can lead to a decrease in your vehicle's performance and safety. To prevent this issue, regularly rotate your tires and maintain proper tire inflation. Check your vehicle's alignment and suspension components for any irregularities causing uneven wear.

✍️2. Tire Puncture:

Tire punctures are another frequent tire issue that can occur due to sharp objects on the road, like nails or glass. To minimize the risk of punctures, inspect your tires for damage regularly and avoid driving on debris-laden roads. Keep a tire repair kit in your vehicle for emergency situations.

✍️3. Bald Tires:

Bald tires result from excessive wear, leaving the tire's tread dangerously low. This can lead to reduced traction and increased risk of hydroplaning. To prevent bald tires, monitor your tire's tread depth and replace them when they reach the minimum safe depth, as recommended by the tire manufacturer.

✍️4. Tire Blowout:

Tire blowouts are sudden and dangerous tire issues caused by excessive wear, underinflation, or damage. To prevent blowouts, maintain proper tire pressure, inspect your tires for damage, and replace them when necessary.

✍️5. Sidewall Damage:

Sidewall damage is a common tire problem that can result from impacts with curbs, potholes, or other obstacles. To avoid sidewall damage, drive carefully, and avoid obstacles that could harm your tires. Inspect your tires regularly and replace them if you notice any cuts, bulges, or punctures in the sidewall.

✍️6. Underinflation:

Underinflated tires can lead to poor fuel economy, reduce

Starting a Car by Pushing When the Battery is Dead: A Step-by-Step Guide

When your car battery dies, it’s a frustrating experience, but if you drive a manual transmission vehicle, there’s a helpful trick to get the engine running again: push-starting. This method works only for manual cars and can save the day when jumper cables aren’t available.

Step-by-Step Process:
1. Confirm the Battery is Dead:
• Check for signs like dim dashboard lights, a clicking sound, or the engine turning over slowly.
• If the dashboard lights don’t come on at all, the battery is completely dead.
2. Assess the Slope and Safety:
• Find a flat or gently sloping surface for pushing. Avoid steep inclines as you could lose control.
• Remember that steering and braking will be harder without power from the engine.
3. Select Second Gear:
• Shift to second gear for a smoother start. Avoid using first gear, as it can cause a jerky start.
4. Release the Parking Brake and Begin Pushing:
• Release the parking brake and let friends or helpers push the car from the rear bumper.
5. Reach Optimal Speed and Release the Clutch:
• Once the car reaches around 8 km/h (5 mph), release the clutch quickly to engage the engine.
6. Shift to Neutral and Apply Brakes:
• When the engine starts, shift into neutral and safely bring the car to a stop.
7. Allow the Engine to Charge the Battery:
• Let the engine run for at least 15 minutes to recharge the battery. Avoid turning it off too soon.

Conclusion:

Push-starting a car is a handy skill, but remember, it’s a temporary fix. If your battery fails often, it may need replacement. Always be cautious and avoid steep slopes when attempting this method.

Road safety : Do Not Turn On Your Hazard Lights When Driving In Heavy Rain

Driving with your hazard lights on can pose a risk to other motorists on the road. When your hazard lights are activated, it will only cause confusion and compromise your safety , your turning signal is disabled, making it difficult for other drivers to anticipate your lane changes or turns. And they will not be able to determine if your vehicle is stopped or in motion. Turn on your headlights instead for more visibility.

Be road smart.

No bus, truck driver should be paid below K3,000, K4,000 respectively!

GOVERNMENT through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has announced an upward revision of the minimum wages for bus and truck drivers, effective April 10, 2025.

This development comes after Cabinet approved the proposal during its 25th Special Meeting held on December 17, 2024.

Labour minister Brenda Tambatamba revealed that the adjustment is part of the government’s commitment to addressing the rising cost of living and inflation.

The new wage structure will see bus drivers’ salaries increase from K2,200 to K3,000, while truck drivers will now earn a minimum of K4,000, up from K3,000.

The revised wages follow extensive consultations with social partners to ensure inclusivity and fairness, the minister stated.

Tambatamba highlighted that the move aligns with Section 106 of the Employment Code Act, which mandates a review of minimum wages and conditions of employment every two years.

In addition to wage increments, she said the revised Statutory Instrument introduces updated subsistence allowances for truck drivers, particularly addressing accommodation needs during work trips.

“For trucks without sleeping cabins, drivers will now receive at least US$30 per night, an increase from US$25. For trucks equipped with sleeping cabins, the allowance has been adjusted from US$15 to US$20 per night,” she said.

Further, the minister emphasised the importance of collective bargaining, urging employers to allow union activities and negotiate better conditions that reflect their financial performance.

“These minimum wage adjustments are a reflection of our commitment to improving the livelihoods of our workers. However, employers must also embrace union activities to ensure employees benefit equitably from the profits they contribute to generating,” said Tambatamba.

In case you arrive at a scene of a road crash, you MUST stop to give assistance as follows:

I. stop the vehicle and switch off the engine;
ii. use your hazard warning lights to warn other traffic;
iii. arrange for the emergency services to be called immediately with full details of the
accident location and any casualties (If you use a mobile phone, first make sure
you have identified your location from the marker posts on the side of the hard shoulder);
iv. move uninjured people away from the vehicles to safety; on a highway this should, if possible, be well away from the traffic, the hard shoulder and the central
reservation;

v. do not move injured people from their vehicles unless they are in immediate danger
from fire or explosion;
vi. do not remove a motorcyclist's helmet unless it is essential to do so;
vii. be prepared to give first aid
viii. stay at the scene until emergency services arrive.
120. After attending to the casualties, remove all obstructions that may increase the risk of other road users or cause another accident.
121. You must formally report the accident to the nearest police station as soon as reasonably
practical.
122. You are required to give the police or an authorised officer your details to include the
name, address, and vehicle registration mark.
123. If an accident involves a vehicle containing dangerous goods, follow the advice in Rule
119 above and, in particular:
a) Switch off the engine and DO NOT SMOKE.
b) Keep well away from the vehicle and do not be tempted to try to unnecessarily
rescue casualties as you yourself could become one.
