FORGIVENESS

Matthew 6:12
Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us."

Forgiveness. It's a word that is often spoken, but not always understood. What does it mean to forgive someone?

Webster's dictionary defines forgiveness as "to give up resentment against or the desire to punish." In order to forgive someone, we must first let go of our anger and resentment. We must stop dwelling on the hurt that has been inflicted and move on. Forgiving someone does not mean that we condone their actions or that we have to forget what happened. It simply means that we are choosing to let go of the anger and bitterness that we are holding on to.

Forgiveness is not easy. It can be one of the most difficult things that we ever do. But it is worth it. When we forgive someone, we are freeing ourselves from the chains of bitterness and anger. We are freeing ourselves to move on and to live our lives in peace.

So how do we go about forgiving someone? It can be a process that takes time, but here are a few steps that may help:

1. Acknowledge the hurt that has been inflicted.

2. Don't dwell on the hurt.

3. Forgive the person, even if they don't deserve it.

4. Let go of the anger and bitterness.

5. Move on with your life.

Forgiveness is a choice that we make. It is not easy, but it is worth it. When we forgive someone, we are freeing ourselves from the chains of bitterness and anger. We are freeing ourselves to move on and to live our lives in peace.

AFFIRMATION
Heavenly Father, thank You for this pattern of prayer that Jesus taught. Give me a gentle spirit and help me to be quick to forgive all those who have hurt or abused me knowing that for Christ's sake I have been forgiven of so much. I pray that I may maintain close fellowship with You and be swift to forgive those who sin against me. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
