Govt begins revising Anti-Corruption Act

Government has commenced the revision of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

The process has started with the National Stakeholders' Consultative Meeting.

Acting Justice Minister COLLINS NZOVU says the revision of the Anti-Corruption Act is a critical step in Zambia's fight against corruption.

Mr. NZOVU says the revised Act reflects the government's commitment to upholding values of integrity, transparency, and the rule of law.

He said this during the opening of the National Stakeholder Consultative Meeting in the revision of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012 in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Justice Permanent Secretary ISABELLE LEMBA noted the importance of revising the Act.

And Acting Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission MONICA MWANSA highlighted the significance of a robust anti-corruption law, saying that corruption prevents progress and equality.

Meanwhile, German Ambassador to Zambia ANNE WAGNER-MITCHELL stressed the importance of prevention, stating that it should be at the forefront of anti-corruption efforts.

And Team Leader, Social Sector and Justice, European Union Delegation to Zambia, BOGDAN STEFANESCU, commended Government for its commitment to strengthening the policy and regulatory framework to combat corruption.

UPND Itezhi Tezhi law maker beseech the ministry of Agriculture to remove all the rigidities affecting farmers from accessing the SAFF loans.

UNITED PARTY FOR National (UPND) Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has urged the Ministry of Agriculture to revisit its approach to the Smallholder Agricultural Financing Facility (SAFF) loan in an effort for the program to enhence Agriculture in the country.

Mr Mutinta observed that the management of the 2024-25 SAF loans by the Ministry of Agriculture and the banks contradicts the aspirations of President Hakainde Hichilema to advance the agricultural sector in Zambia.

Mr Mutinta who is concerned that the current implementation of the SAF loan program is failing the very farmers it was designed to assist, says the ministry of Agriculture need to revisit the program and addresses the challenges that the smallholder farmers ate currently facing.

The (UPND )Itezhi Tezhi legislature who insisted that banks must also adopt a more truthful and transparent manner when dealing with farmers and ensure that the farmers have access to the necessary information and support throughout the loan application process.

Mr Mutinta who observed that
out of the over 300 applicants of the SAF loans , less than 30 farmers have received the loans in Itezhi Tezhi district, has since bemoaned communication gaps between the ministry and farming fraternity.
